Title: Paypal Master Thread
Post by: Yehuda25 on May 04, 2017, 08:48:03 AM
Any solution to buying with a new paypal account (4 months old)?

Paypal basically told me that since the account is somewhat new, they aren't letting any big purchases through (even as low as $500)

I have verified everything multiple times, all the credit cards, added social...

Sent some quality time on the phone with them as well...

You can try upgrading it to a business account (no cost) and see if that helps.

If the money was placed in the PayPal account via MY PayPal cash and other methods you risk having your PayPal account shut down, but taking it out another way for ex. Amazon you can play safe and still play MS.

yup, from looking online it seems to be happening to a fair amount of people, so ridiculous. And being a big company there is no one to talk to and they can do whatever the flip they want.

I've had other issues with them in the past, and I hate also how there's no real CS to talk to. They still are the biggest company in regards to having thier presence everywhere (especially PayPal checkout) and when something didn't work right by them I couldn't fix it, which really bothered me. But thru many different companies zelle is growing very quickly now, and hopefully since it's used by many large and important companies it'll have better service then PayPal.

And as usual the first company that becomes big in a new sector of business, thinks that being first is good enough and doesn't work hard to keep thier place, will die (Kodak, palm, blackberry... To name a few)

I had a good experience with PayPal and its customer service.
I bought something expensive on eBay, and when it came, I saw it wasn't what it was supposed to be.  The seller refused to take it back, so I disputed through eBay purchase protection, and all went well until I missed sending back an essential signed paper by eBay's deadline, so I lost the case. Totally my mistake.
So I disputed through Paypal, since the merchandise sent wasn't as represented in their listing.  I won, and got my money returned.

Sorry for waking ppl up here on this dead thread...

PayPal account was hacked and then cashed out at a Walmart😱

PayPal claims they do not have any protection for in person transactions and claim they rely on Walmart's ID requirements. Practically though, ID is usually not actually required so once account is hacked it's pretty easy to withdraw.

Any recourse?
PayPal wouldn't even provide the location of the Walmart where the cash was withdrawn!

TIA

Perhaps someone has some advice on this. I ordered a pack N play on some shady looking website with paypal, thinking that I'd be covered because Paypal has purchase protection. I receive a tracking, all seems swell. Comes Friday the item is marked delivered but I never received it! I called UPS, they wouldn't talk to me nor give me any info because although this tracking showed my city and state it was to a different name and a different address! After emailing numerous times I opened a dispute with paypal. They denied it because they said the seller provided a shipping tracking number that shows delivered to my city and state. So I dug a bit deeper and saw that the weight on the shipping is showing 0.40, now a packnplay weight significantly more, so I called paypal,  with this info and that if they called UPS they would be informed that this is actually not a tracking of a shipment to me, only to be told that this is paypals policy and I am out of luck. Seems like a simple scam to me, sell a 100 dollar item on paypal, send an envelope to a different address in the same city and state, an voila, buyer is screwed!

Signed by,
Shoulda used a CC.

It's not new, paypal just recently bought the company. It's basically a way for them to take the cash back you'd get from a shopping portal and in return they show you all the available coupon codes when you're checking out at on a website.

i bought a  few switches ($1K) from a website not realizing it was a (Chinese) scam and i paid via PP , the shipper didn't sent anything so i opened a claim on PP to get my money back, then the shipper sent me a plastic contraption from china (in order to submit a tracking number to PP hoping to win the case) so i told PP this is not what i ordered and now in order to get a refund they want me to ship this toy back to china

(i opened a dispute with amex, however i dont want to have issues with PP)

do i have to ship this back? is there any other way to get a refund?

You do a favor for a friend they can pay you with friends and family.

The only reason to do for good and services would be if you want purchase protection.

For the same price you can use Chase QuickPay or zelle, venmo, Google pay..
List goes on for free services to send cash.
So unless you're dealing with goods for sale don't bother paying the fee.

My question is if it is against Paypal's terms. People ask if they can pay me with PayPal. I don't wanna eat the fee, and I don't wanna tell them to cover the fee, but I don't know if I feel comfortable asking them to use the friends and family option if it's against Paypal's terms.

If you're being paid for a service why the need to go through PayPal?

The reason why one would select goods and services would it be to get the purchase protection.

If you enjoy paying fees go for it.

There's no one forcing you to use goods and services while you can use friends and family no problem.

Don't see why it would be the terms & conditions that you have to use Goods for sale in paying for a service and if you decide to use friends and family and take the risk you're not allowed to?

Meaning you're not tied down to PayPal, you can use any service out there if you're just looking to send cash.
With that being said look at it as if it's a friends-and-family payment.
You can use zelle to send and receive payments for free.

I know I have other options, I'm just saying that some of my customers prefer paypal, for whatever reason.

Anyway, I found this in the User Agreement:
"You must not use the ďsend money to a friend or family memberĒ feature in your PayPal account when you are paying for goods or services."

Not sure what to make of that.

Why because they're losing out on money they can make?

someone sent me $1000 but I'm only getting about $970 ,he sent via "goods and services", is the reason for that because he would like protection, or to be able to use his cc?
how long can he back out for?

I think he still pays a 2.9% fee even if he reverses it.

1)  I have heard that people have multiple paypal accounts.  How do you handle the personal information that they require?
(birthdate, last four digits of SSN, address, even full name).

2)  Since mine is not connected to a bank (I only used it for Ebay) I wasn't worried about accurate information, but now PayPal Key looks interesting...
     Comments?

Against the terms which only allow one personal and one biz account per person, I would stay away.
