Only positive I can see about this is avoiding the need to purchase RT tickets.

Years ago domestic US flights would also be considerably cheaper when booked as a RT, especially with a Saturday night stay. As far as I can tell, that doesn't exist anymore in domestic US air travel. A RT is the sum of the two OWs.

If WOW air entry into this market will result in the elimination of the RT with Saturday night stay requirement for low fares, it will be a boon to all travelers.

Still exists in the US on routes without nonstop LCC competition.
Not going to change anything in the TLV market until there's a nonstop competitor.

What will need to happen in order for that to happen? A more efficient aircraft? Which US gateway might it happen with? PHL? I would imagine JFK, or even EWR are just too high cost in order to be able to make low-cost work on this route.

JetBlue would have to buy a A350/787 type aircraft. Sadly, we're probably a decade away from that happening.

Would a backpack be considered under the free carry on size or do you think they would measure it?

They probably have a box where they require you to put it in, if it fits good, if not it's not good

I can't remember the last time I let an airline weigh or measure my carry on. They only weigh your carry on at check in counters. If I have no suitcase, I skip the counter altogether and if I have a suitcase to check in, I leave my carry on with someone or on the side while I check in and that way they never weigh it.

The closest I got to them catching me was when I flew Wizz air intra Europe. The girl by the gate looked suspiciously at my giant carry on which was significantly larger and heavier than allowed and asked incredulously: Did they measure you bag upstairs. I gave her a huge grin and responded enthusiastically: Of course! It didn't fit at first and I stuffed it and stuffed it until it fit!

It seems you've never flown an airline that tags carry ons and actively check for them at the gate

I've had carry-on weighed by gate.

(I had left carry-on on side by check-in, but the agent noticed it and made me weigh it on scale. Of course, it was overweight. She tried forcing me to pay, but I refused and said I would leave it by a friend in city and wouldn't be taking it. Of course, she knew I was lying, and warned me that I would get stopped by gate and wouldn't be able to bring it onto plane. I said thank you, left, went through security, and then transferred half the stuff from the carry-on into duty free bags. When I got to gate, waiting there was non other than the witch from check-in, salivating over her prey. She grabbed bag from me, weighed it, and was crushed when it was within the weight limit.)

I can't argue with other peoples experiences but I have flown multiple times on all the major low-cost airlines and never let them weigh or measure my bag.

If you do get caught, there are ways around it if you are savvy. I once escorted a friend to the airport and Lufthansa was giving him a hard time with his 12 kilo bag (instead of 8 kilo), his hatbox which they claimed was a carry on of it's own and his suit bag which they claimed was another carry-on. I looked at my friend , said "I got this" and stepped up to the counter. I took the hat out of the box, put it on my friend's head and told the lady that I was taking the box back with me. I then pointed to the suit bag and said: "He's putting that on right before the flight and putting the bag in his carry on". I than hulled the carry on up on the table, opened it and took out two gemaras (Oz vehader :) ) and said: "This is his reading material for the flight so it isn't part of the wight restrictions". I looked straight into the check-in lady's eyes and demanded: "Should I continue or are we good here?" Needles to say all the possessions made it safely on the flight.

Good luck trying that with an ULCC who intend to make $$ on carry on fees, get the wrong agent and they'll make sure you pay up to the last ounce.

...Seriously? LCC exists in Europe for a while already, and what have the legecy airline copied from them, the fees, none have duplitcated their OW fares

Also great if you can use miles on the outbound and use WOW on the return for the cheaper TLV-US fares and better layovers.  Even Pesach and Sukkot you can find mileage tickets outbound if you come a couple days early.

Low cost airlines focus much more on luggage, since that's where they make a nice chunk.

If an ULCC wants to weigh your bag by boarding they will. And virtually nothing you say will convince them not to charge you. I have seen it dozens of times. Regardless of how creative you are.
May work on a carrier where fees are extra gravy, not when its their bread and water.

Lol. I think Orthodox Jews take more carry-on luggage than your average person takes in their baggage. I don't think everyone is oblivious to the looks a frum family get when they board a plane with 5 huge "carry-on" suitcases, 8 personal items, 3 hat boxes, 2 sheitel boxes, and the kids leaving a trail of BYOK behind them; and proceed to fill up 3 overhead compartments, and then complain to the FAs that there's not enough room for their stuff.

True, but at this point everyone is trying to take as many stuff onto the plane because of the luggage fees.

They don't have KSML, you can purchase regular meals and snacks.
Clearly, that will change

Pegasus or Wow?
(Truth be told, I was able to get out of the carry on weight fees, when flying with the family and going with a stroller is the easiest way, or when by myself sticking the heavy items in my Scottevest, but doesn't help for airline that actually charges for carry ons)

Also great if you can use miles on the outbound and use WOW on the return for the cheaper TLV-US fares and better layovers.  Even Pesach and Sukkot you can find mileage tickets outbound if you come a couple days early.

Are u referring to mileage from WOW Air? How did u accumulate mileage by them? Did they ever fly out of NY?

2 hours ago. Their system was going down a few times and sometimes it wouldn't show me flights at all, but after a few times, it worked. I think they open up more flights every so often.

If an ULCC wants to weigh your bag by boarding they will. And virtually nothing you say will convince them not to charge you. I have seen it dozens of times. Regardless of how creative you are.
May work on a carrier where fees are extra gravy, not when its their bread and water.
I beg to differ. If they catch you at boarding, you can always wear your clothing, put stuff in duty free bags, put stuff in your pockets, etc'. I have easily gotten away with 30 and 40 pounds of luggage as "carry-on stuff". I've gone on planes where I have an official carry on backpack on my back, another carry on bag in my right hand hidden by the huge coat draped over my arm and concealing it, another carry on in my left hand concealed in a huge duty free bag, another duty free bag with my extra stuff and also a bag of food for the flight which they don't give you trouble about. Ah, I forgot to mention that I pressed my suit bag to my back and than put an overcoat on top of it, therefore holding the suit bag in place and concealing it. What about the hanger sticking out of my overcoat at the back of my head? That's where the neck pillow comes in and nicely conceals the hanger. And yes, I did all this with ULCC that are dying to make an extra buck off luggage.

Creativity has no limits!!!

Iv'e had friends that put their extra shoes in their coat pockets, A friend who brought a pillow for the flight and stuffed it under his shirt when they started to give him trouble. Friends who just made a run down the Jetway when the witches back was turned, etc'.
You may not use all the tricks on your first LC flight but when you've taken 10/20/30 of them, you start to pick things up.
When there is a will (and a stubbornness to not pay extra) there is a way!

You had me until the carryons hidden in duty free bag or by your coat.

Sticking your possessions in your pockets is one thing since its not a carry on bag under their definition. But carrying on a bag which you are required to pay for but hiding it under your coat seems no different than shoplifting.

All these cute, hypothetical workarounds don't necessarily translate into reality once randomly stopped. Whether they choose to stop you is up to luck and moods, and if they do chances are you aren't getting out of it. And you aren't really one to argue with that as till now you weren't even aware that there are airlines and airports where baggage is weighed and sized at the gate.

I can't remember the last time I let an airline weigh or measure my carry on. They only weigh your carry on at check in counters.

Friends who just made a run down the Jetway when the witches back was turned, etc'.

They are witches because they are rightfully enforcing a company policy that you agreed to and are now trying to sneak out of?

While I usually appreciate your sarcastic, confrontational approach and your conviction that your opinions are far superior to others opinions and or actual experiences, I don't appreciate being called a liar. The stories I wrote about, are actual real life experiences that happend to me בדידי הוה עובדה.

Regarding the witches comment: I won't call someone a witch for enforcing a company policy but for the way and tone they enforce it with. There is a big difference between telling someone politely that they must pay for an overweight bag and yelling at them  that if they don't pay this very second they will be thrown off the plane and not put on another flight. The boarding agent alluded to was of the latter variety.

Not to get off topic from y'all's luggage arguments but does anyone know what WOW's Biz is like?  :P Maybe comparable to a normal Premium Economy?

I was looking from Chicago for the Chagim and the prices are worse than flying a regular airline  (can still get for $6-800 from there...(yes, Chicago is the best b/c is has all the same flights to Europe, IST and even Royal Jordanian that keep prices down without all the people fighting for TLV flights)  BUT for about $1200 for what would be equivalent of an normal Premium economy seat, with all the luggage included and free cancellation, that seems like a good deal.
