Does anyone here use them? Does it really save time together with TSApre?
They are available in a whole bunch of airports including LGA and JFK.
-
I think TPG wrote about them recently.

Don't see it. Do you have alink?

I have a friend who uses it. In some ways, it's better than precheck. It also works for non airport facilities.
-
Lucky has a post today on it. Comments there.

That is what it sounds like. I would imagine that for many here who fly out of NYC fairly often this should be well worth it and I am surprised it is not discussed more. There are 2 threads from 4-5 years ago when they were in much fewer airports and that is it.

I was in the a DL SkyClub in DTW and the had cards offering it free for top tier DL status holders.

Rates are much better through Delta.
For regular Skymiles member's it's $99 annually compared to $179.
Or if you are Platinum / Gold / Silver Medallion Members and
SkyMiles Credit Card Members, it's $79

I'd pay $79 if I knew it worked for DW and child the way precheck does.
-
Meanwhile it seems that no members have it. I find that shocking.

If there is particular information, or experience based info that you can't seem to find, I'd be happy to ask my friend. I believe he has it through work, and uses it quite often.

You get one additional household member for $50 and anyone under 18 is free.

I would love to hear how much time he feels it saves him per flight and the like. Basically a review of what it does and doesn't help with.

I'll ask him. I believe he used precheck previously, so I'll see if I can get a comparison.

From what it seems the 2 are mutually exclusive.

Eh, still will cost me $129 even with the discount, and I usually travel with DW, so it's useless unless she gets it as well. From what it seems the 2 are mutually exclusive.
Seems so. I'll see what he says.

If it really works I would pay that in a heartbeat.

At that price, it would really have to offer a lot for me to not be happy sticking with precheck.

Clear just let's you skip the wait to get your ID checked, they bring you to the front of the line to go directly to the metal detector/scanner. If you have precheck you'll go to the precheck line, if not, the regular line.

Ah, that's why it wasn't making sense.

Therefore if there is a line at pre it helps you with that as well.

w/ the Delta Skymile discount, cost for most people is just $99/yr.
but if you have GE/Precheck, personally I've never observed that line to be long enough that I feel passing that line would saved a material amount of time. Also the availability of Clear is still very limited, and usually only in the Delta terminal of airports that has it. maybe if you fly Delta a lot and the airports you frequent have crazy Precheck ID verification lines...

In JFK that seems to be the case as it is only available in Terminal 2 and in LGA it is in A, C, and D but not B which does not service Delta, in other airports such MIA, MCO and others it gets many other ailines

Just used Clear tonight at LAX T2.
There was an agent at the Clear lane at the bottom of the staircase who opened the rope to… the main staircase up to screening. At the top of the stairs, there was the regular Pre-Check lane with like 4 people and another roped-off Clear area with one person.
Needless to say, I made it through slower than if I would've stayed with the TSA Pre-Check ID line, as the four people were long gone by the time I finished up with Clear.
Seriously, all that just so you don't have to show an ID??

I thought it looked like that, but ti didn't make sense so I assumed I was missing something. I guess not. And I assume you are showing ID to the clear agent at the bottom?

The theory for it working is in a case with more than 4 people at the pre-check line.

But that's a 1:4 ratio!

Just to be clear, Clear doesn't advertise that they take you to the head of the metal detector line, just the head of the TSA ID and ticket check line. They may have an informal deal with a local TSA team that gets them that, but that's not something you can count on. I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes in the line to have TSA check my ID even out of all the NYC and DC airports which I fly out of all the time, so Clear really isn't worth the time it would take for me to sign up, even if it was free.

Well, the screening is right after the ID check. It may be crowded with a wait to get stuff on the belt etc, but not much of a line there per se.
It seems that you still end up waiting about the same amount for someone, just that it's a Clear rep in this case.
I guess it would help if the ID line is endlessly long, but the last time I encountered that was like 5 years ago in EWR without TSA Pre.

Anyone have more of comparison between CLEAR and Global Entry?
Does CLEAR when coming into the country also?

Kind of....
You sign up online give your basics name, email address etc...
Then when you get to the airport leave a few extra minutes ( no appt necessary) and when you find the Clear kiosk near the security tell you singed up online and want to finish the sign up, that is when they take down you adress and stuff and then you they ask to take you biometrics ( your and eyes and fingerprints).

I arrived to LGA 25 min to my flight, security had crazy lines there was no way I’m making this flight.
A lady came over to me and asked “Hi would you like to try out Clear we’re offering a 30 day free trial now?” I said “Sure Thanks”.... it took exactly 3 min to sign up and exactly 3 min later I was after security! (Never mind I got held up by security for another 15 min and arrived to gate 4 min to flight but that’s a different story!!)

Its worth to sign up for the free trial but you have to know when to use it; if you would have sign up before you could have gotten at least 2 months free.... :(

I'm having a hard time finding a list of CLEAR application centers. Is it just the airports they currently are in?

Easiest thing is next time you fly to give yourself a few extra minutes to physically sign up. No reason to make a special trip to sign up.

Yes. Make the account first online, then give yourself 5 extra minutes when flying for first time after for the fingerprinting process.

We're on the move!
This holiday gift came early. CLEAR is newly open in three of the busiest US hubs – just in time for Thanksgiving travel.
O'Hare is here!
This is big: CLEAR is now in Terminal 1
at Chicago O'Hare Airport.
New to Newark
Terminal C is up and running for both
PreCheck and standard passengers at
Newark Liberty International Airport.
Hello again,
Houston
We've expanded CLEAR to
Terminals A, B, C and E at
George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
