Title: virgin atlantic bargains
Post by: bmw on October 16, 2017, 11:48:54 AM
Some readers may find some info below interesting, this may have been discussed already in the forums and not worthy of a new thread ? here is a letter I sent virgin atlantic

To virgin atlantic.

I have seen that you recently uploaded Delta airlines flights to your website making them bookable online which is a big help, making it possible to book routes like JFK – LAX, JFK – CDG and more [I also realized that while you have a separate redemption rate chart for Delta airlines, on routes that Virgin flies, for example NYC – LHR the mileage rate is the same as for virgin and it does not go according to the delta chart, which is a bit interesting].

However I realized that while in the search engine you have an alphabetical list of airports making it possible to put in many destinations, certain destinations don’t show up, for example TLV, ZRH, BRU, making it impossible to book online the delta flights to those destinations. If you could upload those [and all cities delta fly to] onto your website, making it possible to book those delta flights online would be appreciated.

Sincerely

P.s for dansdeals readers, on international flights the availability on virgin website seems to match delta.com, however on domestic routes there is a vast difference with delta having much better availability for lower rates [and can make a difference on international rates, for example a search from NYC-CDG, didn’t pull up on delta.com any flights with connections only nonstop for high rates, however on virginatlantic.com it routed through Boston for 62.5k inn business (the domestic portion charges separately) !!].

Some bargains are USA to EUROPE [Besides LHR as mentioned above] for 50k in business with no surcharges ! and with current Amex 30% transfer promo I makes it 39k ! if your willing to book far out in advance you can find great availability, also changes or cancellations are only $50 up till the flight, unlike delta.

there are also amazing bargains to be had for ANA flights ....[over the phone]

Their website is truly terrible.
Anyone try pricing a business class to Europe with a connection over the phone? Is it also 62.5K?

FTFY

Saver awards are non-existent or unicorn and fairy level. So there is no way you will see it on any partners either.

Yep - Just called in and they said that technically, the route is bookable for 60k points but they don't see any availability for the entire month I was looking at.

Even if it would be available the YQ would be astronomical

Wow! One of the most incredible savings I've seen for miles in International Y class. Legacy carriers from 9/13 - 9/16 is $2750+ and with miles is 20k + $469 YQ with Virgin Atlantic or 26k + $543 YQ with BA!

Ended up booking BA because times were better.
Not related to this thread, but I just noticed that I paid $28.32 more YQ by booking a rt than had I booked 2 one-ways. Good to take note of these things in the future.

And on the VS I would have saves about $60 by booking separate one-ways

Thanks.
It's not that way on Domestic. Is this all international or just with certain foreign carriers?

Anything with YQ.

Just remember that Delta charges YQ on flights originating in Europe, which they don't charge on a RT from the US.

Randomly checked tickets JFK-LHR for some dates and found availability for 7.5K miles +$148.
I think this is insane cheap for JFK-LHR.....

Just called to check availability on the Delta NYC-ZRH route. The rep wasn't able to find availability, but she said that it should cost 60k RT in Economy and 100k RT in business.

Why is it only London that has the 10k OW pricing? Is there anywhere else in Europe that has that pricing?

Did anyone find out how much miles it would be to TLV? @zagguru?

Is there a way around the increase in miles required for US domestic on Delta if its an indirect flight?
