2 "J" Class Quantas BNE-LAX Feb 16 (Alaska 55K points) Ask your local rabbi if flight flies during shabbos.
Leaves 11:30 AM and arrives 6:00 AM
Flight hits Shabbos on the way, prob a no-no for most.

Ha! just this second posted another thread if any body remembers the website that checks routes

Had a KE fight that left Friday 10:00 AM and arrived 10:00 AM in NY. Chabad Shaliach in Seoul (great Guy) told me that I might be flying on shabbos. I checked that website and sure enough it flew upwards to Russia and flew thru shabbos for approx 15 minutes. Not to get into details, but my Rov told me its ok based on numerous circumstances (not for now) and in the future I should be careful about booking such a flight.

On a side note, I met what appeared to be a serious frum elderly couple, who the husband was sitting and learning the whole time and she woudnt look at me etc, and I told him this flight flies on shabbos, and he replied that I dont know what Im talking about. I tod him Chabad Rabbi who lives here knows this flight and told me it flies on shabbos and we verified it by tracker. "Eh, you know Chabad rabbis and their mishagasin"...(im sure he had no problem eating by chabad rabbis)
I showed hm on Google that the Star K has a whole article about such flights and specifically quotes this KE flight...."Eh Star K Modern Orthodox Rabbis, what do they know")

Oh well, sometimes you just go tot know when to give up and let them win their arguments...

If the plane flies exactly on the great circle and if it leaves exactly on time, then shkia will begin 4 hr and 33 min into the flight.
It then offers the variables if the flight is delayed, but it can't offer variables if the flight doesn't stay exactly on the great circle path.

My Rabbi told me that as long as I get on the plane on Shabbos, I could technically fly on Shabbos as long as I avoided melacha and could disembark with all my stuff and wait in the airport until Shabbos is over. YMMV on this psak. It wasn't for an emergency flight of any kind, it was a theoretical discussion. I've never done it though.

You are right if you fly over a place where is Shabbat you just have to be seated and avoid to do any melucha

It's not simple at all to know when exactly Shabbos ends and begins with timeline issues. You're really going to remain seated for 5-12 hours on a TPAC flight?
Hardly a lechatchila situation.

Well, opening the door to the suite can be an issue. Going to the bathroom, taking a shower, moving the seat, sometimes opening the tray. There are many parts of a plane that have sensors.

I see your point. But you wouldn't have to sit, just avoid melacha.

No doors on QF.
But what happens when you need to use the bathroom? Seems like a terrible plan.

If your movie is on from before shabbos, you should just stay in your seat and continue to watch the movie.

You can move around in the suite .

For a bathroom, you can bring along a brief relief if you have a private suite.

Or, you can hold the bathroom door shut (or don't, just can't lock it.) and don't flush

Title: Re: Discussion About The Rare Award Space Master Thread

My LOR told me that in the future I shouldn't purchase such a ticket, however I only realized it a few hours b4 the flight and that Since It involved coming home for shabbos, and my kids would have issues with sitters etc. However for that 1 hour I shouldn't do anything just sit on the plane (I slept right thru it). There is some difference if you flying into a shabbos area then if you are flying on shabbos (was along time ago, dont remember exactly). No issue with kiddush or Tichum upon landing.
(There are other serious issues when flying other routes, such as skipping shabbos or a fast day or when you are required kiddush etc.
I know this is getting way off topic, just an interesting article about the date line and shabbos.

Not with Skypesos (semi revenue based). Also not with married segments, that can open better availability or fare buckets.

Agreed. But when I see something I want to read but not just yet I have to let it sit there and clog up my notification bar. When I don't look for a few hours I can have hundreds of notifications sitting there.
Telegram oth gets consolidated to one notification, and when I'm ready to go through the posts I started from the last unread message and move down.
The in app browser is nice as well.
The Disadvantage of it, aside from missing notifications often is if there is a post that stands out that I do want to read right then (this post would be a good example) it'll mark all posts since I last opened the app as read.

I fly to Israel 15-20 times a year on Business. Have been doing it for 20 years already. I live in YYZ.

Have been through it all. ELAL, AC, stops, what not. Currently am loyal to United. I hate to pay cash when I know there is a whole world of points.

Every trip is its own parshah. Used to buy 10x ECO upgrade-able books with ELAL, but hated the old plane. The TP status gave nothing. New plane doesn't have the 10 book anymore, and more often than not there is no upgrade, so end up sitting in ECO way to often.

Now I am with UA, and mostly fly AC metal. I credit to UA and am now a 1K. Also worthless, and I fly with stops and ECO way to often. I will not pay more than $3K for a ticket, ever.

I was never into Credit Cards. Now finally I set myself up with Chase cards and am amassing UR. There is no way I will ever do swiping etc, and I don't spend more than 400K a year on cards, so the most points i can get to is about 700K realistically. Obviously will make sure to get signup bonuses to.

BUT... UA to Israel is 180K a way, I simply can't pay that. I know for a fact there is a way to force saver space to 75K one way. Dan bragged about it once when he took his family to Israel for Shavuos, and there is an agent in Monsey who knows it, but only uses it to TLV when he is on the flight.

I suspect someone here can help. I am willing to pay $10,000 for this secret, and am promising not to share it with anyone.

Might be through having a United explorer card, having that card or a better United card, opens up extended award spaces (meaning you can book tickets for less miles and for and you have more days that you can book tickets using miles) or you can search Dansdeals for the words "plan b" basically that's a way to get a ticket in business/first class even when United doesn't show on their website any availability for miles (they don't always allow you to book tickets using miles, it's called award space [that's what Dan posts when there is rare availability, meaning flights that almost never have tickets available to buy with miles])
All this info I have you here I read up more or less in these posts, they take apart the whole situation very clearly.
I started with this post - https://www.dansdeals.com/points-travel/milespoints/rare-united-polaris-business-class-saver-award-upgrade-space-nonstop-north-america-tel-aviv-3/
And then slowly read through all links he mentioned to understand what he means.
This link is also very good and full of information - https://www.dansdeals.com/credit-cards/earn-60000-miles-united-explorer-card-take-advantage-uniteds-generous-awards/

Interesting, dan specificaly mentiones that with the united card you access to the expended saver awards space and you can then book a ticket in business class (JN) for 75,000 miles. See here (https://www.dansdeals.com/airfare-deals/israel-flights/rare-united-polaris-business-class-saver-award-upgrade-space-nonstop-north-america-tel-aviv-3/) right before the comments section.

Having the United Explorer card gives you access to XN which is expanded Economy awards at the saver level price, it also gives you access to JN which is last seat availability in Business class but not at the saver level price, which in this case it would be 180k.

Thanks.

So just to confirm that I understood correctly. There is four levels of award space
1. Standard award bucket (HN,ZN) - every mile member.
2. Expanded standard award bucket (JN,YN) - card holders and Plat/1K/GS elites.
3. Saver award bucket (I,X) - every mile member .
4. Expanded saver award bucket (IN,XN) - Plat/1K/GS elites but not card holders.

If so what's the difference between standard award and saver award they both seem to be open to all miles members.

Also whats between the expanded saver vs regular saver.

Last, it seems that card members do get access to Expanded saver award bucket as they have access to XN.

Thanks

P.S. you can see the attached screenshot from where I'm taking these four award levels.

I created a simple table for the Noobs our there (like me) that are trying to grasp the united award classes and who has access to those classes.

|Standard|Expanded standard|Saver|Expanded saver

Coach|HN = Everyone
|YN = Elite / Card members
|X = Everyone
|XN = Elite / Card members

Business|ZN = Everyone
|JN = Elite / Card members
|I = |IN =

Uh I'm pretty sure Dan already did this. And he had all the info.

If you would read my post you would see it's not meant for Dan. It's meant for people that are new to this whole concept of award tickets and they want an easily readable chart of what awards classes they should be able to see, I created it for myself because I kept on getting confused when I was looking at Dan's list of buckets and figured someone else might enjoy it.

Not everyone has bad intention when they post something, and yes some people actually do run a search and do read through posts before asking and posting, please understand everyone's mind is wired differently and something that might look simple for you might look complicated for others and vice versa.

Donít know if this is rare, but Iím seeing DL 468 on 8/19 for 72k FB. Itís 415k on DL
Assuming it's not phantom, good find.
DL seems to becoming more like UA with Saver on this route, it's there, but very rarely. As apposed to before where it just never existed.

Is the virginatlantic site one of the worst out there? Nine out of 10 searches show as No results were found for your search, please check your route. Try changing your cities, dates or any other search criteria. #101639R
Then I did ATL-TLV it did show award space on Delta, tried JFK got the no results found, retried ATL-TLV this time got the no results found too though a minute earlier it did show award space.
Is there any workaround to get it work in a better way?

This. Lots of space on FB is phantom, so it's hard to know who's issue it is until you try to book.

Thanks chatted with them, the agent can see the Delta flights for e.g on 8-2 Friday, I just chose the date the OP mentioned, she said an 11.06 pm JFK-TLV is available, I asked her why I cant see this availability when I search, she said not all partner flights show.

Is TAP offering real J LIS/TLV?
They keep posting the seat map of thr new plane but as far as I can tell it has not flown to TLV yet. It has generally been flying OPO-EWR. The problem is it's basically impossible to tell when it will start flying to TLV because they show the seat map on both routes at the same time.
