supposed to take off over 2 hours ago but there was some sort of corrosive leak and had to deplane. Now they are waiting for new pilots. What kind of compensation should I get? ;)
-
shabbos?
-
Should qualify for Israel flight compensation law.
-
Should qualify for Israel flight compensation law.
whats the gist of that? even for a delay of only 3-4 hours this would qualify?
Edit: current take off time leaves it at 4+ hours
-
You'll be lucky if it takes off at all.

Well, they just rolled in a new plane...
-
Lucky!
-
Lucky!
Am I? According to what I quickly read, the law only comes into action if I takeoff 5+ hours after original takeoff time.
-
I guess that depends on whether you want to be in Israel before Shabbos or not.
-
shabbos?
+1
Unless you're staying at a hotel or eating out on Shabbos, most stores will be closed by the time you get to Jerusalem (assuming you're going to Jerusalem)
Feel free to Pm if there is anything I can do to help.

If i'm not mistaken, I believe even the 11 pm gets in before shabbos? (assuming you dont need to prepare meals etc.)
-
That flight is completely full.

Im sure, I was just speaking in general since you were concerned about Shabbos and it looks like this flight will take off before that (hopefully).
-
well, hate to say you were right Dan...flights not taking off till tomorrow afternoon? Best way to reschedule is to call, right?
Also, anything I need for the Israeli law?

According to what i've seen, looks like a possible full refund and even more maybe? @Dan?
-

so its ~3000 nis plus the refund for the flight or just the nis?
-

If you take the rebooked ticket you'll only get the 3080 ILS.

They sent a "customer appreciation" email to fill out and presumably choose some sort of offer. Says to hold off until completing my travel which I was gonna do anyway (hold off until I figure out the Israeli law)
-
wrote to customer care and they responded:
"Please accept our apology for any inconvenience you experienced during the interruption of your travel plans.
As alternative options to your claim for compensation under Israeli Air Service Regulation, we would like to offer you a choice of a $1,000 (USD) United Travel Certificate* (redeemable and transferable toward the purchase of any United or United Express operated flight) or 30,000 United MileagePlus® miles (redeemable on flights operated by United, United Express or by Air Canada, ANA, Austrian, Lufthansa, SAS Scandinavian, Swiss, Thai and 20 additional Star Alliance partners worldwide.)
If you desire one of these options, please let us know your preference and we'll facilitate delivery via e-mail within 3-5 business days. However, if you still wish to pursue cash compensation of ILS3080.00 under the Israeli Law, please provide your banking information for a wire transfer. Processing of your payment may take up to 6 weeks."
Thoughts? Seems like they try to get you to choose the certificate by saying 6 weeks for the other.

I think the no-brainer is ILS3080.00

+100

Will you be flying UA over the next 12 months?
-
I think the no-brainer is ILS3080.00
what is 30k miles even worth these days?
-
Definitely don't take the miles.
Only question is the $1K cert vs $845 cash.
-
Is the voucher transferable?
-
Will you be flying UA over the next 12 months?
possibly, which is why i'm debating, but can also take the cash plus the $150 food credit e-ticket they also sent, which would still basically equal the $1000.
Also, I can still possibly choose the $200 certificate that they offered in the "automatic" email after the flight or you think I wont be able to after accepting one of these?
-
Is the voucher transferable?
Yes.
-
Yes.
In that case, he can prob sell it for more than $845 even if he chooses not travel in the next 12 months
-
@Dan how do you know its transferable? just wondering
-
Lol, I've been around this rodeo for a few years.
It's actually valid for a month past the expiration date and can be extended without too much hassle...

how long is it usually "good" for?
-
Officially 12 months from date of issue.
Plus it works for 30 days after exp.
Can extend more with a refundable fare.
-
Do definitely take the cert!
You have minimum 12 months to use it, and on the chance that you don't use it, you can sell it at 85% in 6 months from now, and if you can't find a buyer at 85% I always buy UA vouchers at 80%.
-
Can I combine the certificate with other certificates such as the $100 certificate I got for not having my meal?
-
Yes, email them to combine them

Yes, email them to combine them
I meant as in using both when booking a flight, but also a good idea what you suggested...
-
You can't. That's why I wrote what you could do.

You can do it OTP
-
Take the money. After they send it to you, go to the compensation page and take the $200 voucher as well.
Enjoy!

They're just going to combine the certs as I said you should do.

are you sure?
A few weeks ago I used 3 vouchers for a flight (ewr-hkg)
And as I was giving the voucher the agent told me what my remaining balance is... Made no mention of the combination
-
Only one voucher per person.
Anything more requires merging them behind the scenes.
-
I know it's unrelated, but can El Al discount vouchers be combined? If so, how? Can it be booked via a TA, or only directly with El Al?
-
Thanks for the shoutout Dan! Ended up taking the voucher.

im back again...my return flight was delayed 7 hours (heres hoping for 8 hours though!)
I believe though if its between 5 and 8 hours you still get a refund on the ticket price just not the 3000 nis
