Title: Sam 28 Cancun TR FEB 2017
Post by: sam28 on June 27, 2018, 04:10:49 PM
Cancun TR FEB 2017

Me and my wife decided to go to Cancun for a long weekend. I checked online tickets with Ba points about 3 weeks before. The only thing available was in business for 25k per way. So I went ahead and booked that.

2 days before we were set to travel our babysitter canceled on us. We had no choice but to take along our toddler. I wanted to book a ticket for her in business but there was nothing available only in economy. I couldnít book economy because she canít travel alone at the age of two.

So I called up BA spent more than an hour on the phone till they finally booked me the ticket.

I had a friend with his wife on the same flight and they were booked in economy class so my plan was we will change seats in the airport.

I arrive to the airport to check in and they tell me we canít let you on to the flight, why we booked separately, we asked to change seats with my friend they didnít let so we asked for economy seats for us they kept saying they cannot do it. After holding is up for an hour at AA check in counter they gave us 3 economy seats. They gave us a very hard time and it was very upsetting they didnít let my friend take our seat.

Our flight was February 22 with American Airlines. The flight was great service was ok, we landed 7:30pm.

At the airport when we walked through customs we got the green light, but we look like Jews they still made us open one of our suitcases. We had luck because the one they asked for was the one without food. Other suitcase was full of food, dairy,  etc.

We had ordered a driver; he took us to our hotel for $20.00 usd.

We stayed at the Ritz Carlton, since Iím a platinum member I got upgraded to a beautiful ocean front room with a balcony. Their service was fantastic! Our baby got a big crib with a cute bag full of toys and lotions for the baby.

The reason we stayed at the Ritz was because the Hyatt was sold out.

We loved every second at the Ritz and wished we couldíve stayed longer. But I couldnít stay there for Shabbos. I wanted to be walking distance to Chabad as we ate there. So for Shabbos we stayed at Intercontinental President hotel. We got a nice suite ocean front no balcony. This hotel is about a 12-minute walk to Chabad.

So on the first night we sat on our porch enjoyed the weather, strolled around the hotel which was amazing and went to bed.

Some picture of the hotel and our room.

   Day 2   02/23

We woke up in the morning enjoyed the sunshine in our room. We had coffee and some breakfast on our porch. We went down to the pool and the beach. We spent most of the day relaxing at the beach, it was too nice to leave. They have all kinds of watersports at the beach like jet ski or parasailing.

At about 4pm we called our driver, he took us to Costco we were looking for some kosher food but could not find anything kosher so we left.

At about 6pm we got ready to go to Red Heifer Grill to eat. Outside of our hotel we took the bus up the road. The way took about ten minutes.
The restaurant was nice. We got our seats. The food was good, the wait not bad. It was great to have a fresh delicious supper after a long day at the beach.

After supper we went to some supermarket for drinks and water.

We walked over to Chabad to see where exactly they are located, so we know where to go on Shabbos.
Itís located in a shopping mall, a little hard to find, on the 2nd floor. The mall has no air condition it was very hot and humid in the hallways.

Then we took the bus back to our hotel and called it a night.

I get it, i was just saying.  I went on the orbitz glitch (as per my TR) so since my trip was free, I was looking into staying at the Ritz for DW birthday while we were there though it didn't end up working out

Day 3 02/23 Ė Friday

We woke up and it was beach day again. Just sitting and relaxing. At 2:30 we checked out of the hotel.
Our driver took us to the Intercontinental President hotel.

I booked the hotel to be near Chabad Shabbos. Their cheapest room was $220.00 a night. I asked for an upgrade he said he canít do anything for me. So I gave him my passport and slipped a $20.00 bill, you shouldíve seen the smile on his face, and eventually on my face too!

So he searches again and says I can put you on the 4th floor and give you a 2 room suite ocean front. We went to look at it and it was perfect. So we took it. It had a big bedroom and a big living room, some breathing space. It was amazing.

They were very nice and let me unpack the entire mini fridge so I can put my milk and drinks in.

We unpacked our stuff and got ready for Shabbos.

Friday night

We went to daven at Chabad. They daven in the hallway of the mall. Itís a rundown mall, no open stores there. There was no working air condition in the hallway, it was very hot. After davening the Chabad rabbi invite everyone to come in and eat there. We made reservations, and ate there. There was a big crowd Friday night. Meal took about an hour. The rabbi is a very nice friendly person. Makes conversation with everyone.

Shabbos morning we davened there again. After davening there was a Kiddush and then the meal. It wasnít so crowded in the morning. If you can choose where to eat Iíd rather eat at Red Heifer, I was just afraid my little one wonít walk that far.
On motzei Shabbos we went to eat at Dag Dag.  They opened for us. We had a nice talk while they made us some fresh food. Food was ok. We ate there, then went for a walk called it a day. The weather at night was beautiful warm but breezy.

Sunday

We woke up to a beautiful weather. We decided to take a submarine tour. You take the bus outside of the hotel for ten minutes to a big bus stop called Aqua world. Itís a huge place full of water activities. They have all kinds of boat tours.

So you take a boat ride for about 40 minutes. There in middle the water the boat stops and you transfer to a submarine. Once on the submarine you walk down steps and take a seat. Youíre underwater at that point. They take you for a 30 minute ride and you see all kinds of fish.

Then you come back up and walk back over to the other boat waiting for you. Then you go back to the port. The whole thing takes about 3 hours. It was very interesting and beautiful to be at sea. But if youíre the type to get seasick fast then this submarine is not for you!

For supper we went back to Red Heifer. Food was delicious.

We were in Cancun February 17-26, 2017. It's all kind of a blur now, but we must have been at Chabad same Shabbat you were there! We were staying in the Lagunamar, and I think we just davened and ate Friday night at Chabad.

Monday FEB 27/2016

We got up bright and early, and decided to go to Isla Mujeres. At about 11am we left our hotel, took the bus for 10 minutes and went off at the boat station called Gran Puerto.

We got tickets and caught the next ship. They run every 30 minutes. The ride was bumpy as hell, it was a rainy day and very very windy. The way took about 30 minutes.

Once we got there we tried to rent a Golf Cart. We went to a few places and all of them asked for driverís license. I left mine in the hotel room. I was starting to get upset that I would have to go back without seeing the island. After trying every single rental for a while we finally found a place that didnít ask for license, but they asked for my hotel room key. I gave it to him and they charged $20.00 an hour, we took it for 2 hours.

Itís a nice island, full of souvenir shops, bars and restaurants. You can spend a couple of hours there. We were looking for the kosher restaurant but no one knew where it is. We found a meat place that sells falafel but we were looking for a pizza store. The falafel store showed us where to go.

The dairy place is called Cafť Maya! We ordered a pizza pie, a sandwich and drinks. We had to wait quiet long as they make everything fresh but the pizza was insanely delicious, the sandwich too! We spent about an hour there. We continued to tour the island with our golf car, they have nice beaches. We returned the car and returned to Cancun. Itís a nice island if you have the time, but itís not a must!

That night we ate our own food as we were still full from lunch!

Tuesday

We got up and headed straight to the beach as it was our last day there. We had a 2pm AA flight to JFK.
Overall itís a beautiful Island, with many fun places to visit, beautiful beaches to relax at and delicious kosher food!

Ziva turquoise which is adults only is nicer and more convenient then the Ritz
