Ship's rules  Į\_(ツ)_/Į

I believe that's fairly typical for a student discount though.

Yup, been through this. Must be some sort of heter for it. Though it's unlikely to apply to the Drake passage.

Looking to buy a bunch of One Ocean Expeditions suite upgrade certificates.

Willing to pay an arm and a leg. I'd pay more but I don't have much else left after paying for a standard cabin.....

Pm with offers.

(Disclaimer: purely curiousity question as I'm not considering going)

Is there already a minyan committed to going? If a minyan doesn't materialize, would that be a covered reason to cancel for traveler's insurance? Even if I were going, a minyan isn't a deal breaker, but I didn't see that discussed on the FAQ.

You'll be able to walk on the continent, why does the circle matter? Being in the circle also makes Shabbos wayyyyy more complicated.
We looked into flying, but it couldn't work out for a myriad of reasons.

You're right, more about bragging rights I guess. Just seems like if I'm going to spend that kind of money for a once in a lifetime trip, might as well go as south as possible.

Unless you're going to the true south pole, I don't see a difference in bragging rights what you're stepping foot on the continent. You're in rarefied territory. JMHO though.

Crossing the Arctic circle is a whole lot easier...

Why, isn't much simpler?

- Most flights are delayed or moved up due to winds, commonly by 1-2 days. When they say to get on the plane, you have no choice - even if it's Shabbos. And most flights are on weekends, so the chance of you being forced onto a plane off Antarctica on Shabbos is incredibly high.
- Ships that operate fly/cruise cannot accommodate kosher food due to stocking issues and schedules.
- After your tallis/tefillin and a change of underpants, your baggage allowance is too small for a tuna sandwich, let alone a week's worth of food.

Shall I continue ;D?

Much fewer ppl have flown EY/SQ/LH/CX F than have gone to Antarctica, in all likelihood. Itís rarefied territory on ddf, though.

Main issue seems to be your desire to make this about photography as opposed to the experience. You really think itís impractically difficult with basic food and camera gear? Iíd prefer to cruise myself because thatís part of the experience, but the issues and risks you mention donít seem insurmountable.

Not at all. Photography is a significantly tiny part of this trip. Look at the site - how much is photography discussed? Barely. It is all about the experience.

Want to learn how to capture that experience? That's where the photography comes in.

You really think itís impractically difficult with basic food and camera gear?

Absolutely. Ships in Antarctica do not allow and/or do not accommodate kosher food - just see @Dans experience last year. So unless you plan on living on crackers for a 10 days, yes, it's "impractically difficult".

but the issues and risks you mention donít seem insurmountable.

You're in Antarctica and the incoming plane is delayed two days. You get kicked off the ship (which is starting a new cruise as soon the plane lands).

It's Shabbos and your options are remaining alone on a rock or taking the plane back.

This sort of delay happens so often that all fly/cruise trips have a fine print contingency plan that states that in case of a delay they will give you a bus tour of Patagonia instead.

Are you willing to take that risk?

That's why we get BBC Planet Earth DVD's from Amazon, so the kids (and us) can see all the penguins, polar bears, Arctic and Antarctic circles (and lines), etc. etc. without ever worrying about packing, food, babysitting, etc. etc.

I just read the DDMS post, and found where many might find value in the price of this trip. While this might not be a once-in-a-lifetime event, this is definitely something that is close to extinct, and people might actually recover the cost of the trip from this:

Youíve obviously spent more time researching, but if you donít need dozens of catered meals and are fine with bringing what you can and supplementing with fruit, vegetables, perhaps fish, drinks, etc, I wouldnít think itís impossible. Difficult and risky, sure. Of the 100 operators none are willing to cater kosher fish for a large group, for example? What have the other kosher tours done (including the one being planned for late December?).

All fun aside, if indeed you have a way to pack a printer and ink (while I personally hate inkjet printers, toner is not ink, and if printing a book that needs to endure, you want to use ink) you should really consider printing a tanya there.

But if you actually contribute to the printing, then you have a special חביבות to the Tanya that was printed there, and might encourage some learning.

ETA: Just noticed your location, are you located in Antarctica by any chance?  I would presume that's the ultimate MS Desert ;D

What's this printing a tanya all about? what am I missing?
IE why printing and not bringing?
One of those things that you are either into it or not.

Why? I heard that some of those guys did a ton of MS down there by loading up their Buxx accounts and cashing out at the WF ATM (https://mentalfloss.com/article/63741/worlds-loneliest-atm-antarctica). It's great when there are no eyes on your account for 10 months straight  :P

How long is one allowed to spend outside the ship for it not to "reset" the issue of boarding a ship within 3 days of shabbos?

Also me. I can check with my wife maybe and also wash dishes one of the other nights. Please email me infos asap because I need to arrange carpools for my kids. Ty

Wow!

Couple that with a rare seminar, and this trip might not only pay for itself, but actually yield some handsome dividedends.

Some people care about ashkenas minyanim, other people care about printing tanyas in random places. Can't we all get along?

I don't think most people would decide to go or not to go somewhere based on the Nussach of the minyan alone. I've never heard of a Posek insisting on that. I'd be happy to see a source that says differently.

Not to mention that if one is concerned about potential Halachic issue, the lack of a real Tzeis for Motzei Shabbos is probably a more significant Halachic concern than whether the Shat"z will say Hodu before or after Baruch SheAmar.

Or this: https://www.polarcruises.com/arctic/destinations/north-pole

This actually seems fun: https://antarctic-logistics.com/trip/ski-last-degree/

Can anyone help me book a mileage trip? I am trying to identify business class awards. Particularly anyone know how to get Aerolineas Argentinas miles? They don't seem to share the business class availability with partners? I see other options with other airlines but I would love to get a single long hawl from JFK to EZE.

United and American have direct NYC-EZE flights as well.

OK, @Dan. Let's get this out of the way now:

Snape was actually good.
Beth dies.
Hobbes isn't real.
Jim was actually freed by the Widow Douglas.
Dorothy was dreaming.
It was the mice all along.
Yaakov gets the brachos.
