Re: [02/01 11AM New Poll] DDMS Redesign Branding - Help us choose A Logo
Does anyone like either of these more than the 2 in the poll?

I like the page turn concept, but the straight edge on the left is boring, how about something like this (crudely done in Paint).

Re: Manhattan Kosher Restaurants
Basically, you walk through the door into short hallway that's mostly decorated for Bedford. When you walk in, staring straight ahead you see this:

But before that, on the left side, there's an entryway for Mendy's. They had curtains that were held open - I assume at night they leave them closed.

So it's more like having to file through business class an econ+ to get to cattle-class?

Re: *TIME SENSITIVE* How many Idaho potatoes are in a 5 pound bag?
Leftovers will be... but with all the DDF members who will be coming over I doubt there will be any.

So peel the whole 50lb bag, and we can Kugel (it's a verb too) all night.

Which leads me to wonder, why didn't you just empty the bag, and divide the 10 equal-sized piles of potatoes. Or even just three piles so you'd have ~16.7 pounds that you can then divide to 3 so you have three batches of just over 5lbs each.

Re: Lost Money In A Chase Atm..
If you're lucky, you weren't the first person to have this happen, and they'll find a lot more than $70 extra ;D

1. The ATM would have shut down after eating the first persons money.
2. Don't you think the guy who's $1,000 are in the machine won't file a claim?
3. The OP only claimed $70, not the higher amount.

P.s. I always tell my toddler that the ATM is the machine that eats money.

Re: 1 day or 2 days in Israel
No true believer, and still the Mechber puts it as what you're intention on returning

He must have written shu"a for the kofrim....

Reminds me of a joke:

Someone asked a Kohen Am Haaretz if he knows the meaning of each word in birchas kohanim, the Kohen replied in the affirmative.

So the guy asks the Kohen: "What does V'ychuneka mean?" So the Kohen says "and he should choke you".

So the guy looks at the Kohen startled: "What? Is that what you bless the people with?"

So the Kohen responds: "No, by v'ychuneka I think about the Goyim"

Re: Shlichus Addiction?
Just wondering how you would draw bli gvul, and how you would represent that being the shoresh of kav.

I've been working on a rendering for years now, but I keep running out of paper and pens, and it's getting too big to store. I'm hoping to finish it one day, so I can show it to my mushpa'im and they'll then understand Bli Gvul. Once I finish it, drawing Kav will be easy.

As far as I know everyone left, paid with their Amex cards and are planning to dispute these charges.

$250k in Amex chargebacks from multiple guests? Hopefully the hotel will lose their Amex Merchant Account.

Re: Pesach Program in Greece Cancelled Just Now!
At the end of the day if you want 100% guaranteed kosher you grow your own food and shect your own meat etc.

Not the first time that equivalence was made in this thread. Chometz on Pesach is much stricter than most other issurim both in its shiur (mashehu) and in its bittul (not batel bshishim on Pesach).

Re: Brooklyn Restaurants
I never knew that there is an Israeli co-owner. People go there because of the food, and service be damned....

The food there (every day) isn't worth the bad service.

In this specific instance, we had an experience there (with the food!), for which I wouldn't go back. But the aforementioned manager enticed me to give them another shot, and this time the bad Israeli service and the co-owner backpedaling on the manager's promises of freebies and making me feel like a loser for claiming what I was promised, confirmed my initial gut-feeling that we shouldn't give them another shot.

Brisket can be better than Izzy's brisket? Kosher or not, why would it matter how the cow was killed?

Koshering, for one.

That is the case about which I wrote that even if that does happen (highly unlikely) it would not be bimashehu. I stand by that.

And I question that assertion. I'm going to agree to disagree, even if you disagree to agree to disagree.

Re: Rental market implosion in Lakewood- implications
Yes. People want to buy, but are relying on a rental to help pay the mortgage. However, with everyone buying, fewer are renting and there aren't enough renters to help with all the mortgages.

This problem doesn't exist in other areas, because the rental demand is still very high.

If the buying people are all relying on rentals, which are a dud, then the buying market should slowly grind to a halt.

Maybe I should consider a move to Lakewood, housing in Brooklyn is out of control.

Used them a bunch of times with no issue.
Change fees were expensive like most OTAs.

The reputable OTAs are all the same, you can use them a bunch of times with no issues, but once you have an issue you spend hours on hold and your issue either doesn't get resolved or they want to charge you big $$$ to resolve your issue.

Re: Interesting Articles...
For all you know, that could be the future of private air travel.
Instead of purchasing a full aircraft individuals can have their own personalized modules easily swapped in to the more expensive body.

Right... they're going to reconfigure your private jet as a gym because for this flight you're in the mood of a workout. For the return you'll be in the mood for swimming, so they'll install the swimming pool module, and for your next flight you'll be in the mood for bowling, so they'll slide the pool out and install the bowling alley in instead. Sounds very plausible to me.

Re: Rental market implosion in Lakewood- implications
Is this the start of a trend where we will see newlyweds/young couples living in 5 bedroom 3 bathroom homes?

If they can afford it it'll leave them a lot of room to grow.

NYC new area code: 332 Just found out about area code 332 when I got a text from T-Mo alerting me to the new area code overlaying 212/917/646. 332 has barely made it to Wikipedia.
Amazing how these area codes keep filling up.
Any opportunities to get a designer 332 number?

In Brooklyn, making $200k a year with 10 kids, you're struggling...

That can't be answered without knowing what the average parent actually pays and how the school chooses to spend its money.

Part of the problem is that schools (read: administrators) choose how to spend the money with very little transparency or oversight...

Today every two bit street corner (shteeble basement) pot seller is pushing heroin...
For $5 a kid can get a quick high that can addict forever....

Maybe part of the solution is to go after those who make these substances so easily accessible.

Re: Silent Killer
If these addictions or chemical imbalance issues are seen as broken arms that need a cast or strep throat that needs antibiotics, then they have the chance to be treated and healed. We can also teach how to prevent more of this just like we know what needs to be done to lower the risks and prevent strep/broken bones (when possible). Parents and balanced stable are key, as well. The leaders can promote it and make it a priority if/when they promote this education publicly.

I'm not sure how you're replying to what your quoted. All I said was that even if it happened (Ch"V) in their own families it's possible these leaders wouldn't change their stance.

Re: Silent Killer
Most addictions are borne out of character defects which come from something in the past.

I don't think trauma, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, or PTSD (to name a few) are character defects.
