Re: BitCoin Master Thread
From the actual article:

So he's definitely right that Bitcoin is based on "faith of its holders that it is worth more than nothing and that the technology is sound", and all fiat currencies are equally based on the faith of its holder that the backer/issuer of said currency is sound (which publicly available evidence indicates otherwise).

The difference is that stakes are much higher for a US government collapse than for an implosion of BTC.

?s=21

Am I reading this correctly that the Federal gov’t told states it is reserving the second dose for them and then said they don’t have it?

So many bungles. Don't understand why Warp Speed doesn't incentivize Pfizer to get these doses administered sooner. With enough incentive they'll sponsor the entire operation and figure out the logistics themselves.

?s=21

This sounds exactly like Trump's talk of voter fraud, a lot of noise and no hard evidence. If there really were armed people at the Capitol, armed well enough to overpower whatever inadequate police presence that was there, and they had plans to kill people, why did it all fall through? Why was there only one person shot dead?

Re: Famous People With Coronavirus
Former Ashkenazi chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau has tested positive for coronavirus, days after he received the second dose of a coronavirus vaccine, according to Hebrew media reports. It is not immediately clear when Rabbi Lau, 83, was infected with the virus.

He is reportedly feeling well and doesn’t have any symptoms. His name for Tehillim is ישראל מאיר בן חיה.

Davening that he continues to feel well and fully recovers soon Bez”H.

You might have just as well answered "today is Sunday". Or "people should be nice to each other". Those are all fine, dandy, and correct, but have nothing to do with the questions I posed. (and I didn't really ask a complex question like "when is next Wednesday?")

Give me your own answer to your question instead of giving mine.

You’re playing the fame CV Kept playing in the politics topics before there was a dedicated board:
- Ask a (provocative?) question

- Heckle anyone who answers
- Never reveal your own position

Re: Re: Lakewood covid cases
Not sure if non Lakewood stories are allowed in this thread.

1) a guy who does a car service on the side gets a request to take someone's father to the airport. He's been extremely careful and asked a couple times if he had any symptoms or was exposed and was assured not. A few days after the trip, the driver comes down with symptoms, tests positive and gets hit really hard. It's out of commission for two weeks, but recovers, B"H. The person who commissioned the ride tells him, by the way, how hard it was to get his father in a flight even though he had covid.

The driver demanded he receive payment for lost wages while he was sick, the guy refused, but agreed to have the case heard by a rov. The rov about lost his mind calling the guy a borderline rotzeach. He paid up.

2) someone who throws an annual party, but scaled it way down this year due to covid. 11 people at the party got covid, and all the party guests had to quarantine. Dozens of families were shut down, unable to go to work, etc, not to mention all the people that got sick.

Turns out someone came to the party after testing positive because, and this is a direct quote, "I didn't want to stifle my lifestyle."

Insane. What about all the people in the airport/flight, if this guy was shedding...

Let me guess “but he was wearing a mask”...

The crux of your argument is that Tesla is like Apple because it is technologically advanced.

There’s more to it than that. They’re similar in that they lock you into an ecosystem that’s different and arguably better than the competition, but still locked in with opportunities to cross-/up-sell you on additional premium products/services.

Re: Realistic vaccine date- end of 2021?
This is an emergency situation and all options should be on the table. I would also like to buy direct. If Amazon or Walmart were running the vaccination program we would be way ahead - instead it is running like the USPS.

The issue is that these are politicians who are fighting, and for their honor, not for your safety and well-being. In the private sector competition leads to efficiency, within government it could just lead to a power struggle further delays.

Re: Are we going too far?
I agree with your criticism of those who stigmatize mental illness. But I don't think that we need a psychiatrist to tell us that people who are 12 times more likely to commit suicide than the general population are not in severe emotional and mental distress.

1. That suicide rate could be higher because of the stigmas created.
2. It could also be because lots of mentally ill (in other ways) people self-identify as transgender for various reasons (to get attention, to belong, to have rights,  and possibly others) and the suicide rate has more to do with those people’s state of mind/mental condition than their “transgender” status.
3. Some transgender people have gender-identity issues because of gender imposed upon them by crazy parents, that can drive a person to suicide.

So I would say it depends.

What are you smoking?
Before he bought it they had probably the worst pizza of any pizza shop I've been to. You can barely call it edible.

Once he bought it they really turned it around and started making really good pizza. Although the credit for that surely goes to his partner there -the guy who owns Dagans, I forget his name.

See, I was under the impression that the Dagan guy took over (and the pizza became edible), and then it sold to Benabou.

In any case, the pizza is good but I don't feel like they're monetizing the pizza quality or the location.

Israel to mull scrapping age limit to receive virus vaccine

https://www.ynetnews.com/health_science/article/SJHEkqB1u

At this point with the at risk people mostly vaccinated it would be most beneficial to specifically vaccinate those people who are most careless and/or get around most. Maybe set up vaccination at Ben Gurion and vaccinate eligible people before departure and/or upon arrival.

Re: The current state of COVID-19 in Israel
At this stage it's all about mass vaccination, so since the kupot holim have massive inventory and 200k+ capacity daily, they want to make sure there is enough people targeted. IMHO

I’m not talking about forcing people. I’m just saying make it available where people are already passing through anyway. Bring it to them at Ben Gurion.

Re: Realistic vaccine date- end of 2021?
More people have gotten the second dose in Israel then those who have gotten the first dose in OH - great job Dewine.

https://www.timesofisrael.com/after-record-infections-record-vaccines-israel-gives-200000-shots-in-past-day/

Ohio 456k (there is a delay in reporting Today's numbers). https://coronavirus.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/covid-19/dashboards/covid-19-vaccine/covid-19-vaccination-dashboard

Israel effectively has as much supply as they can administer from Pfizer, can't say the same for OH. If OH had that things might (or might not) look different.

Re: Lakewood covid cases
While the numbers and anecdotal evidence certainly support the fact that there is a significant uptick, I don't know if you would call it massive in relation to our previous ones (at least not yet and bez"h we never get there). Also, you had mentioned earlier about concerns about reinfection, and I asked and may have missed your answer, is he or any other doctors seeing actual widespread reinfection possibly due to mutations, or is it just a concern at this point?

Community doctors are best positioned and have their fingers on the pulse of these kinds of things.

Deaths (R”L) are a concrete quantified, but they lag by months so you can’t rely on them for real-time data, and it would be shortsighted to wait for that data before reacting at all.

Re: Realistic vaccine date- end of 2021?
That is what I am complaining about though the speed in getting an effective vaccine was amazing, the continued failure in managing the distribution from the top down is mind boggling - with time to prepare and now time to correct initial failures. I hope the Biden team does a better job though I am not very optimistic.

It might have been a good idea to pay the vaccine developers/big pharma per dose for getting them injected, with a bonus for getting each one they get done before a certain date.

And/or if the federal government would pay for vaccine production when stage III clinical trials started. We’d have tens of millions more doses on hand upon EUA.

Re: Should all Americans receive another stimulus check? How about 2 or 3 more?
US National Debt to GDP ratio is 130%. Currently $27.8T in National debt and $21.3T GDP (not counting another $3.3T in debt at the state and local levels, which puts the total debt to GDP ratio closer to 150%). At some point this breaks. There needs to be a bit more thinking about costs vs. benefits before signing any more multi-trillion dollar debt inducing bills (including tax cuts and stimulus). So far I will argue that the stimulus bills of 2020 cost more than the benefits they created because they were mostly pork, and we can't afford more.

Hopefully Ds controlling the government means less interests to appease and thus less pork. OTOH they’re gonna spend much much than before, so it’s not an improvement.

Methinks that as long as you're aware of where we're heading you can use the stimulus, etc. to your advantage (i.e. invest based on the outcome of unsustainable government debt).

Unfortunately if (when?) America goes bust there will be bigger problems than individual people’s assets.
