Re: Jewish Music (New CDs, hock, and opinions)
I didn't like the new MBD nor Simpinny. My favorite new frוm album is this highly obscure one:

I know I'm not the only one, but an album needs time before I will say I like or dislike it. So many albums seem weak at first, and really grow on me. It is rare that a song or album is great from the get go.

Re: 2016 Election Pick Your Poison Master Thread

... This is just one tiny example that I deal with in NYC, one of the largest concentrations of visible Jews on the planet, in the shining pride of Western civilization. In other places, it is far, far worse. (Look at Jeremy Corbyn in the UK for a start, and we can go from there.)

So that's why we don't care about hate crime stats. We know firsthand that they don't even begin to tell the story. That's why we are so skeptical of leftists and the media speaking of hate crimes - we have a long history of them not only ignoring hate crimes committed against us, but agitating and prodding those who do us actual harm.

I'm re-upping this post in light of the UK drastically increasing their support for and normalizing a terrorist sympathizer and anti Semite. G-d help us all.

ETA: to be clear, the *accusations* against Gorka, Banon, Trump, et al. combined don't even hold a candle to Corbyn's actual statements and actions.

Re: Origins Of Chassidus (The Good the Bad and the Ugly) And Is there A bad Jew?
In a diagram of how chassiddus deviates from what the mainstream was at the time with black as the mainstream (of course that may not really deserve to be a straight line) are the lines representing what actually happened (most likely green or blue) necessarily the same as what would have been? Would the changes have continued? How can I find a change that they made if the point is that the cherem may have PREVENTED further changes?

That chassidus has penetrated every sect of Judaisim is irrelevant to what I am writing since it is only the possibly tempered version.

Either way I recommend that you research the Gaon's reasoning from sources other than Chabad.

See the reasoning mentioned here
There are those who will say that history has shown that chassidus would create false messiahs (leave that conversation to the thread already existing please)

If the concept of attaching to a rebbe is problematic then it still is as well as changing the text of the siddur and the shchita knives (not mentioned here) etc etc.

What other changes similar to or eventually more drastic than the siddur and shchita would have happened without the cherem?
Chassidus was in full swing. If the cherem was purely preventative, it should have said so. It wasn't. It was about what was happening already. If it was at all effective in "taming" chassidus, you should be able to point to at least one teeny tiny little change, even if the changes were mostly preventative.

You make as if we have no idea how those lines would have diverged. We have an idea, the ideologies spelled out their vision for those lines.

We now have two hundred years of history to see how it played out. You're going to have to do better than the *possibility* of preventive effects.

Re: Chabad Minhagim: Pros & Cons
...perhaps it's the purpose of the DDF forum...  8)  to spread this knowledge and to elevate these items into Gdliness.

So are the yeshiveshe. Not only that but they are often called hassidics

Is this thread the black on black crime I've heard so much about?

Re: Where can I buy a kosher cellphone in Yerushalayim? You have to be so careful in Israel. Remember, just because it has Hebrew letters doesn't make it kosher. Many of them are rabbanut, which isn't reliable. Even if it says mehadrin. Make sure you find out before you go if your Rosh Yeshivah accepts the hechsher.

Re: Lets buy for Dan!!! This is like seeing a guy buy a bottle of blue label and then buying him crown royal as a gift, but making him travel 500 miles to pick it up.

Re: The funny/strange/interesting/random pictures thread
No true scotsman.

This is your new go-to. Got bored of cognitive dissonance?

We should start a sort of DDf drinking game. Like, a shot every time CM says "goalposts" or Freddie brings up Chalav Yisroel, etc.

Re: Master Thread of Pet Peeves
if ur trying for vocabulary dont start a sentence with an "and".

if If
ur you're
trying for vocabulary  - this makes no sense considering the criticism which follows. You likely mean to say "trying to show off proficiency in English writing or grammar." Beginning the sentence with "and" would be a grammatical issue, not one of vocabulary. Additionally, it appears what @as2 was discussing had little, if anything, to do with vocabulary or grammar.
dont don't (you are also missing a comma before don't)
start a sentence with an "and". - This is a rule that does not exist beyond what kids are told in elementary school. And if you don't want to take my word for it, check the dictionary, or GIYF.

Basically, if you are going to criticize a comment's grammar, wording or spelling on an online forum, it would be best to first get some Windex for your glass house.

Re: The funny/strange/interesting/random pictures thread
That is the logical fallacy that we've been seeing more of here. I think I used it only 2 or 3 times.

ETA: Google was only able to find one other place I used the word scotsman on DDF.

You had it right the first time:

DDF is the best, I have a team of researchers looking up my jokes.
