Re: US Politics/2016 Election Pick Your Poison Master Thread
Can someone please explain to me what it is suspected that Flynn did criminally that Trump obstructed?
Flynn failed to report that he had performed work for foreign governments including Turkey. This is grounds for being stripped of his security clearance, if not prosecuted. He is alleged to have been compromised in other ways as well.
Did it have anything to do with any possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia?
The investigation of Flynn's actions is part of a broader investigation of Russian meddling in the election, and the conclusions have not been reached.  As part of the FBI investigation, grand jury subpoenas have been issued for associates of Flynn. Obstruction comes from Trump reportedly pressuring Comey to drop the Flynn investigation, later pressuring him to drop the entire Russia investigation, then firing him when he declined and would not swear personal loyalty to Trump.
What did Russia do which had a potential impact other that possibly having been involved in the Podesta email leak and some silly online propaganda?
That "silly" propaganda was apparently somewhat effective, as many people hold beliefs from completely fabricated stories. As to the overall impact of the meddling, that's for historians to pick apart, but the important thing to investigate now is whether any Americans encouraged or were complicit in the meddling, because that could be treason.

2. It's only a matter of time before Republicans bail on Trump en masse when they realize they can't get anything done due to his shenanigans. I'm sure many think they would get a lot more done with Pence.
Most Republicans have never liked Trump or his shenanigans. They need his voters, though, and this is why they mostly keep their mouth shut.

Meanwhile we don't even know if this whole memo thing is true. There has been so much untrue thinly sourced reporting on this administration that we cannot know what to believe and what not to. Once upon a time the media reporting had a goal of truth. No longer. They openly state that they need to be oppositional to Trump. No they don't. They need to be truthful. When the editors approve every sensational thinly sourced leak as they have been doing is there any question as to why they have lost credibility?
All of these leaks have been well sourced by dozens of reputable news organizations. I think you're watching too much Hannity and reading too much Breitbart if that's what you believe.

Lets say it is true. What exactly does it show? There have not yet been any allegations of criminality against Flynn. The most the openly oppositional Yates was able to come up with was that he may be a target of blackmail. What did Trump obstruct?
Yates could not speak much of the evidence in her public testimony because it is classified. Again, Trump is reported to have pressured Comey to drop looking into Flynn, then drop the Russia inquiry completely, then fired him when he refused to comply.

Obstruction of Justice is by definition when there is a suspected crime.
Conspiring with the Russians to influence the US election is a crime, yes. The investigation may ultimately conclude that that didn't happen. But there's too much smoke to ignore the possibility of fire. And so a preliminary attempt to shut down the investigation before it can properly look into these things is obstructing justice.

What really blew me away about EL AL was the service.

This has to be the first time in history that anyone has ever said that.

Re: Do you think Biden Stole The 2020 Elections? I suspect the claim reflects on the fact that in the midst of a global pandemic, with huge increases in voting by mail for a election system mostly not built around it (other than Oregon), and voter turnout levels not seen in over 100 years, the election actually happened, and the votes were counted, with few disturbances or controversy (other than some conspiracy theories here and there). It's actually a testament to the robustness of American democracy.

Sigh. Guess the attempts from the President to poison the minds of the electorate and undermine faith in democracy are winning. As despots around the world cheer for a weakened USA.

It's impossible to be 100% certain of anything, but do some research. IMO Telegram is more likely to shut down before any government gets any data.

January 6 is a new red-letter day in U.S. history, not just because it was the first time that the Capitol had been ransacked since the War of 1812, but because a subset of the invaders apparently were attempting to disrupt a constitutionally mandated meeting of the Congress, kidnap the vice president, and somehow force him to declare Trump the victor in an election he lost. En route, the mob ultimately injured scores of law-enforcement officers. The attack led to the deaths of two officers and four other Americans. But the toll could have been much worse: Police located pipe bombs at the headquarters of both the Republican and Democratic National Committees. Investigators discovered a vehicle fully loaded with weaponry and what prosecutors are calling “homemade napalm bombs.”

The violence that Americans witnessed—and that might recur in the coming days—is not a protest gone awry or the work of “a few bad apples.” It is the blossoming of a rotten seed that took root in the Republican Party some time ago and has been nourished by treachery, poor political judgment, and cowardice. When Trump leaves office, my party faces a choice: We can dedicate ourselves to defending the Constitution and perpetuating our best American institutions and traditions, or we can be a party of conspiracy theories, cable-news fantasies, and the ruin that comes with them. We can be the party of Eisenhower, or the party of the conspiracist Alex Jones. We can applaud Officer Goodman or side with the mob he outwitted. We cannot do both.

"If you need troops to protect your inauguration, something is wrong with your election"

Who said this, John Wilkes Booth?
