Re: Trump-Republican tax plan bad for large families
Is this the trickle down effect?  :)
Call it what you want. Historically the government will get ~19% of GDP in taxes no matter what you do to the tax code, so the best way to increase the size of the governments slice of the pie is to increase the size of the pie.

Re: Will your federal taxes be going up or down next year?
And the notion that helping corporations helps all segments of the population equally is just as ludicrous.
The job of the government is not to make everything equal, that socialism. The government's job is to keep everything fair.
My parents taught me the haves should help the have-nots. This bill does the opposite.

You keep claiming the middle class is getting a big tax cut. What is big in your mind then we will figure out how much corporations are getting.
That's a very noble thing for you to do, however that is not the governments job, that's why we have charity. When people keep more of their money, they give more charity.
Of course, they could have accomplished the same thing by doing it the opposite way, making the tax cuts for the middle class permanent and those for corporations temporary
If the democrats have the house when the tax cuts expire, they'd love to see the corporate tax cuts go away, that's why we need them to remain permanent. As far as the income tax cuts, they'd never want to be seen as raising taxes on the poor and middle class (Which is what it would be) so they'll extend the cuts.
The Senate parliamentarian has rejected the provision expanding the use of 529 savings accounts for K-12 expenses; though I do agree that this was an overlooked benefit for the yeshiva paying community
Fwiu it's only being removed for homeschooling

Everyone pays SOME taxes. We are taxed so many different ways they don't have to worry about that.

Who do you think needs the tax cuts more, middle class or upper class. Leave politics out of it.
It's not about who can use the money more, that's welfare. It's that people deserve to keep more of their hard earned money so they can decide what to do with it - not the government.

During the campaign Trump promised 4 tax cuts. One for the middle class, one for corporations, to eliminate AMT, to eliminate the estate tax. All are in this bill.
The estate tax is mostly remaining. If it were up to me, I would get rid of the estate tax, and get rid of the steped up basis on inheritances.
That's not why they did it!!!
Of course it is! It's common sense. Your agenda won't allow you to use common sense.

Re: Will your federal taxes be going up or down next year?
This bill sucks!!! Is that clear enough for you?
Can you explain why? Who is being harmed by it?
Because my parents taught me there is no such thing as a free lunch. Someone has to pay for this 1.5 trillion handout to the rich (not all to the rich but figures have been around 80-85%).
Wealth is not a zero sum game, contrary to what the liberals/socialists want you to think, bill gates did not get to where he is by exploiting the poor.
Would you rather millionaires pay for that, or middle class who are struggling with having to pay for all the above? This bill makes the middle class pay for more of that burden.

I really don't understand how anyone can argue with the facts. I must not be used to Trumpologic.
It doesn't matter what you'd rather. I'd want you to give me $1,000,000, does that make it right?
Because this bill is just an excuse to pay back all the lobbyists who elected them and nothing to do with a tax break for the middle class. It shows who matters to the Republicans.
Can you show me how the Republican donors are getting a bigger cut than the Democrat donors?

Re: Will your federal taxes be going up or down next year?
Where did this come from?

Very simple question. We all know most will get tax cut under this bill so lets get that out of the way. Who benefits the most from this bill? The middle class or the rich?
The middle class get a bigger percentage of their taxes cut

Re: Will your federal taxes be going up or down next year?
A household earning $1 million or more would get an average cut of $69,660, an income bump of 3.3 percent. Compare that with the a tax cut of $870, or 1.6 percent, for the average household earning $50,000 to $75,000.

To explain why this number is bogus, I'll use an example of a top rate of 90% (not marginal). If someone makes 10k and pays 10% in taxes on it and we cut his rate to 0% his income went up 11.11% and his taxes went down 100%. Whereas someone else who made 1mm and pays 90% in taxes on it, and we cut his rate down to 80%, his after tax income increases 100% but his taxes only decrease by 11.11%. So who got a bigger tax cut

Re: Will your federal taxes be going up or down next year?
Lets not forget in 2027 low/middle class will be paying more while the rich of the richest will still be paying less. Remember this is to benefit the middle class.  >:( >:( >:(
If that's the democrats big issue with the tax plan, why don't they vote alongside the republicans to make the income tax cuts permanent instead of leaving the republicans to work around the Senate budget rules.

No vouchers where I live. It's complicated. Just don't tell that to the hundreds of NY/NJ families flocking here annually since they started.
Though it seems like OH 529s go up to $4K per person next year.
Don't forget that you can still contribute in 2017 to get the state tax break and then use it in 2018 once it takes effect.

and this is what is coming next

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/20/opinion/republican-tax-bill-senate-house.html
Going by the tax foundations numbers, this bill increases the deficit by ~5%. This tax plan is not the issue nor does it do much to make the issue worse. We do not have a revenue isssue, we have a spending issue and it needs to be fixed regardless of this tax plan.

My question is why isn't the market reacting positively? The past few weeks it was climbing like crazy and they were saying it's because of tax reform but yesterday and today when it actually is happening, the the markets are more or less flat. Doesn't make sense to me.
Over the last few days, everyone knew it would happen.

We support Israel because they are a democracy and a friend. Because of this our standing in the world is worse but we do it anyway since it is the right thing to do. I think you would even agree that a lot of the hate towards the US comes from our support of Israel.
Wrong. The reason they hate Israel and the US so much is because they hate democracy. They don't hate the US for being on Israels side, they hate Israel for being like the US.

Were they able to? No

Did they get one? Yes

These judges should be handing out free puke bags, so it doesn't get so messy every time we read about these things.
The root of the problem is not in the Judges, it's in the core of the left's agenda, where equality means that an equal share of whites and blacks are arrested regardless of who commits more crimes.

Re: US Politics/2016 Election Pick Your Poison Master Thread IMO the unions should not be required to provide the benefits to non members (some benefits can't be split like salary and benefits, but others can like legal defense). The issue I have with the way it was before this ruling is that the government compels the union to serve non members, and therefore the union has a compelling argument that the non members should pay too. What the unions should do now is fight that they should not be required to represent non members.

You don't seem to understand it is a given the workers will get screwed.
It is like saying lets get rid of discrimination laws and hope for the best.
Then the worker will find a boss who will treat him better. The employees most protected by unions are bad employees who don't do their work well, and should be fired but union regulations protect them from being fired. Good employees will find good jobs under an employer who is willing to pay them well and treat them well, instead we're all stuck paying the extra costs for employees who don't do their job well.

and I noticed now that it says "with flavor enhancing minerals" and I don't see any hechsher on it at all and I didn't think twice to look for one because I thought it was just plain old water.

Should I not drink it?
From the CRC beverage list

Bottled Water
