Re: Riddles!
There are a lot of times we lein for a week (or more) days in a row - Succos, Pesach, Chanukah. If Rosh Chodesh is Tuesday and Wednesday, we lein 4 days in a row - in what situation would we lain more than 4, but less than 7 days in row?

When Rosh Hashana falls out Thurs & Fri and Tzom Gedaliah is nidche to Sunday. (5 days- Thurs through Mon)

Correct :)

Re: RIP/BDE Master Thread - COVID-19 related
This article mentions a heart condition?

I've heard from two doctor friends - one who is a cardiologist who discovered that clotting is a side-affect of covid, and was working on protocols for giving blood thinners to prevent clots.

Another is a Nephrologist (Kidney doctor) he and his colleagues saw a large number of COVID patients with Renal Failure. They did a post-mortem and realized that although COVID didn't cause the kidney failure directly, it put their bodies in a state where they were sick enough to go into renal failure.

So both Heart attacks and kidney failure can (and are) being brought on as complications of COVID

Re: MLB (and sports in general)
so lets just skip to playoffs and hand the yankees another title  :D

Ironically, the Marlins only have one loss. I imagine if we go another week, they'll probably still be the only 1-loss team in the majors :)

Re: Israel (Not) Reopening To Foreigners

One of my sons is going, I"H,2297,L-5775222_184,00.html

Seems like good news for those that need it
One of my sons is I"H going in 3 weeks. Some of his friends yeshivos left yesterday. He showed me a text from a friend with a picture of him in NATBAG. I told him "That's nice, but I'm still not going to believe it until you send me one of those yourself".

I heard of one yeshiva taking an interesting approach - they can only handle so many students in quarantine, so they're having students come in waves - i.e. 1/3 left last night, 1/3 in two weeks, and 1/3 in 4 weeks.

Which still means a capsule system. Not fun.

Yes, but probably more fun than not going :)

We were talking to a friend in shul who told us "If you need a place to go for Shabbos, you can visit my brother". I just laughed and said I don't think that they're going to have an 'off' shabbos for quite some time.

Re: Jokes Master Thread Cohen is shipwrecked and washes ashore on a small island. After exploring for signs of life, he comes across a small village of 3 huts - including two with Stars of David on their entrances. He calls out, and lo and behold, another Jewish man walks out. He explains to Cohen that he was also shipwrecked and wanted to build a proper jewish community on the Island. Cohen asks him - "What's up with the huts?"

"Well", says the man, " the first building, without the start of David is my house; the one on the left, is the shul that I go to."

"What about the one on the right?" asks Cohen, alluding to the other building with the star of david, " Is that the Mikvah? Yeshiva?"

"No," replies the other man, "that's the shul I won't set foot in"

They finally won something?  :)

This is probably one of the few @CountValentine posts I'd ever 'like' :)

Re: Jokes Master Thread In honor of my dad (z"l)'s birthday, one of his favorites:

Moshe runs into his old friend Chaim on the street. They start catching up. "Nu, Chaim, " says Moshe, "how's work these days?"
"To tell you the truth, I lost my job 2 years ago, and I have been looking ever since."
"Oy vey," says Moshe, " how are you supporting yourself?"
"Auf a Mofes", replies chaim
"Mamish a Mofes?", ask moshe
"No," laughs chaim," Mofes, it's an abbreviation - Medicaire, Welfare, Food Stamps, and Section 8".

Re: Nespresso - Master Thread
Is there any where else I can buy pods besides from Nespresso? Do they ever have deals?

There are also a lot of 3rd party pods for the Original Capsules. I have bought pods from Lavazza, Bestpresso, and Cafe Joe over the years. If you get them on sale you can get them for as little as $0.30 per pod.

Trader Joe's also has it's own brand of capsules, I believe it's $5 for a 10-pack.

Finally, both Starbucks and Illy have recently produced their own original line capsules as well - but those tend to be inline pricewise with with Nespresso.

... edit....

I just saw you were asking about a Vertuo, and I believe that Nespresso patented those in a way so that you can't legally make off-brand capsules

All of the above mentioned pods are O-U, with the exception of Cafe Joe which is Badatz (I haven't had starbucks or illy, but I believe that they are O-U as well).

Re: Jokes Master Thread  I asked my girlfriend to describe me in 5 words. She texted me back and said I'm mature, I'm moral, I'm pure, I'm polite and I'm perfect!

I was so happy, I texted it to my best friend and showed it to her, and she asked why I added the apostrophes and the spaces after the "m"s?

Re: Air Serbia $275 NYC-TLV I received an e-mail from Chase saying that I was given travel credit with Etihad. I had originally bought this flight with UR points. I PUTPAC Chase, and the UR CSR was able to verify that I was eligible for a refund, and credited my UR account with the miles I had used (will check tomorrow to see if they are there)

Re: Jokes Master Thread A little early, but give it 11 days to age:

After hearing about the aravot's symptoms (no taam, no re'ach), the lulav and hadasim were both placed in quarantine.  People now understood the wisdom of the etrog, who had been self isolating in a separate box the whole time.
I heard the Ushpizin are also told not to enter because of their age.

Re: Corona virus and your shul
I'd be pleasantly surprised if there's mass vaccination this year. More likely is targeted vaccination in Q4.

I often wonder how long it will take from vaccine approval to actually hitting a critical mass of vaccinated people. Even if distribution and manufacturing can be ramped up quickly - I don't know if I for one want to be among the first guinea pigs- I'd rather wait a couple of months to see how the early birds fare, and if any complications arise.

Re: Jokes Master Thread Seen on reddit:

A man sees a new medical clinic has opened on his block. The clinic has a bold sign that says - "$20 per visit, and if we can't cure you, will give you $100". He thinks to himself, easy money. So he walks into the clinic and tells the doctor he's lost his sense of taste. The doctor takes brings in a small vial of medicine and puts one drop on his tounge. The man recoils - "Eww, that's kerosene!" he cries. The Doctor turns to him and says - 'Looks like your sense of taste is back, that'll be $20"

The next week he tries again. This time he claims that he's suffering from memory loss, and pretends he'd never visited. The doctor again takes out a small vial, puts a drop on his tounge, and he says - "Eww, that's the same Kerosene you gave me the last time". "Looks like your memory is back, says the doctor, that'll be $20".

The guy waits two weeks, and tries to get $100 out of the doctor one last time. This time he enters the clinic and claims he is having vision problems. The doctor runs a few tests, and ultimately says to him. "You know what, I don't think I can fix your vision problems. Here's your $100" and hands the man a bill. The man takes the bill to put it in his wallet, and realizes that the doctor handed him a $20 bill! "Hey," he says to the Doctor, " what are you trying to pull? This is a $20!" The Doctor then grabs the $20 out of his hand and says - " well, I guess I did cure your vision problem after all, and you owe me another $20!"

I've heard that ashirus is a segula for Maftir Yona.

I guess they ran out of ashirim in my shul, and took the guy who the book is named after.

Re: COVIDiots
My dad had a worker come in last week a day after she tested for COVID, and obviously the test turned out positive.
My dad is not young and has been very careful. So stupid that he now has to have exposure because people are so stupid. Besides that, he had to go into quarantine for yuntif, ruining his yuntif. What was this lady thinking. She knew she might test positive and have to tell him. What did she gain by hiding.
Besides not being able to go to their children (each one that lives locally had a kid in quarantine), my parents now spent yuntif not together. I just don't get what this virus does to make people stupid

Since you phrase it as "my dad had a worker" .... makes me think that this is your dad's business (forgive me if I am wrong). So my question is, what happens to this woman, had she said - "I took a covid test, can I stay home or work from home today?" Does she need to take a vacation day? A sick day? Will her pay get docked?

Re: Jokes Master Thread A young political upstart defeats an long-time incumbent as mayor of the city. He shows up to his first day on the job to find a note from his predecessor on his desk, the note reads as follows:

"Congratulations on your win. I know we don't see eye to eye on a lot of things, but as someone who has the experience of the office you're entering behind them, I decided to share some parting advice. In the top left drawer of your desk, I've left two notes on how to handle crises in office ( I figure you'll have at least two of them during your term). Open the letter marked 1 on the first scandal, and the letter marked 2 for the second."

A few months go by, and the new mayor experiences his first scandal. He remembers the letters, and opens the letter marked #1 - it has one sentence, it reads: "Blame everything on Me", and so he does. He blames the first scandal on the failings of the previous administration. The scandal passes and all is good.

A couple of years go by, and now he is facing his second scandal. He returns to the drawer, and opens letter #2, it too has one sentence:

"Sit Down, Write two letters"

Re: NHL Master Thread

Devastating as an Isles fan. Such a good guy, veteran player on the back end, he helped mentor the young D-Men (of which the Isles have quite a few), had a bomb of a slapper, and was just seen as a tough but not at all dirty player.

Sad to see him have to go out like this, because of such a freak skate injury.

Very sad day indeed :( Hopefully he can stick around with the team in some capacity.

Re: Allbirds shoes
Does anyone have any experience with wool shoes, like Allbirds or Baabuk? How do they hold up? Do they need shatnez testing?

I have had a few different pairs of allbirds. I've alternated two pairs for weekday (m-f) wear and they lasted me about a year (each) so figure maybe 6-8 months if you wear them daily.

Re: Re: Lakewood covid cases
Keep in mind this is in a neighborhood that is running basically as if Covid doesn't exist. So a scaled-down party was a significant sacrifice for which the organizer got mocked for.

Hopefully his sacrifice didn't sacrifice the lives of his guests.
