Master List: Israeli companies and sites that decline US cards Hello all!
Many of us live, study, or travel to Israel and prefer using US credit cards.
I haven't seen a "master list" anywhere that outlines which stores, sites, government agencies/utilities, or companies decline US cards, so I thought it might be nice to start one.

I've only transitioned my spend to a US card this past week, so there are still plenty of unknowns.
Please reply to the thread and I'll update accordingly!

Here are my experiences thus far:

Declined US card
-Cellcom (attempted with CSR)
-BigDeal (Groupon copycat) (attempted with CSR)
-Club Teva website (if you happen to be a Teva employee  :))) (attempted with CSR)

-Mika gas stations (tried using at the pump, it let me put in about 30 shekels worth of gas and stopped -- was in a rush, didn't try going inside to pay, which sometimes works)
-My son's afternoon daycare provider.  They said I'll only know for sure when they attempt to charge next month's payment, will update.

-Cellarix (Israeli social payment app/site).  It let me send money, but Chase categorized it as a cash advance (attempted with CSR)

EgyptAir J: LCA (Cyprus) - NY 1378 euros r/t Not sure this is really a "killer deal," but this might be useful for those of us based in TLV.  A quick, cheap flight to LCA, another quick flight to CAI and then non-stop to NY.  I know it isn't the grandest of airlines (and no alcohol!!!), but it still beats coach and the trip would probably be a little more unconventional.  Also can do long connections in CAI for a whirlwind tour.  Various dates from February onward.

Re: EgyptAir J: LCA (Cyprus) - NY 1378 euros r/t Also seeing this out of Amman, Jordan for $1309 (not euros) r/t.
Don't forget: You can get from TLV to AMM for only 4,500 Avios each way!  Same in-air time as LCA, maybe even less.

And with Qatar Airways for $1722 on certain dates from AMM.

Re: Miles and More: Business class b/w NYC/Chicago and Europe for 55,000 miles R/T Wow, really?!  I thought around $300-350.  Wouldn't have bothered posting had I known that.  Ridiculous.

Re: MS / Churning in Israel No funny business at all.  It was an MS dream, ironically in Israel of all places.  It still works for Israeli cards, but the only somewhat worthwhile card to do it with is the Israeli Fly Card Premium (190 shekels per El Al point).  If you put in the effort to charge 40k ILS a month to the card, you get El Al Platinum in addition to the boatload of points.  Since it still works for that, I'd rather not spill the beans... yet.

There is still another method that is anchored in Israeli laws and works for foreign cards, but it's A LOT more legwork and interaction with people.  No limit either, but I'm sure overdoing it would get you noticed.

Re: Chase Sapphire Reserve
What's currently best item to buy w/CSR for $300 annual that allows high % resale?
I assume it's Gift Card.  2016 I did SWA but that was hard to sell....what's working?

Why make life hard?  Book something refundable and cancel.  Credit stays.

Re: ELAL Matmid - how to accumulate points?
I looked it up on elals webite, they say that its 50 amex usa for 1 matmid but only 6 amex (platinum) Israel per matmid, and way to change amex usa to amex Israel?

Believe me, you wouldn't want to do that.  I think it's 360 shekels (a little over $100) to earn those 6 points.

Re: Best travel card for travel from israel? Why not just go with CSR? You still get lounges, lower net annual fee, better bonus categories, more flexibility in point usage.

If you're into El Al, go with Amex Platinum (U.S. version of course).

Re: Master List: Israeli companies and sites that decline US cards
I just paid my mortgage with my US AMEX CC (there was a problem with my horadat keva). Try that in the US.

Found an old article specifically discussing this option:,7340,L-2359714,00.html

What were the late fees/penalty interest you incurred, if you don't mind sharing?

Re: Chase Sapphire Reserve
Should I SM them again, or would that just draw att?

It's intentional.

SM to reduce CL, or SM to ask about the fee?  The former would be fine, but I would never discuss the fee with a rep. if it's been unwittingly waived.

Re: Airline Gift Cards And Vouchers Master Thread
Wowair vouchers still available. Now also selling 300$ in Spirit vouchers, book before March 29 (travel any time). These are going for 80%.

Excellent transaction  with @segers909  for one of the Wow vouchers. Extremely fast (basically real time) communication and would happily do business with him again.

Re: CHASE/Spg card for large amounts You never fly anywhere, not even domestic tickets, or stay at hotels?  Why not enjoy life and start using some of your points instead of just selling them?

New Orbitz Platinum Benefits I didn't see this mentioned anywhere - there are new (improved) benefits for Orbitz Platinum status:

  • Instead of a TSA Pre credit, you can now choose between that and a $50 LoungeBuddy code
  • Instead of $50 credit toward up to 2 pieces of checked luggage, they've expanded the list and made it a $50 credit toward that, as well as: pet fees, in-air/airport wifi fees, seating/economy+ fees, activities booked via Orbitz, ground transportation booked via Orbitz

The $50 is a credit, you can mix/match between items on the list till used up.

It also seems to go by calendar year, so there may be double dip opportunities.

Full details here:

(TARGETED) Qantas transfer bonus - stacks with 25% Citi bonus! Check your email/spam - this is targeted! Qantas is offering a 15%-40% bonus on transferred miles between April 1-14.

This should stack with the current Citi 25% bonus, for an effective 1.4375-1.75 Qantas points per TYP transferred.

Edit: Don't forget - this also stacks with the Rewards+ 10% rebate! Also, this would be an opportune time to transfer any Barclays or Cap1 points to Qantas (would turn into 1.65-2.42 Qantas points, depending on card and Barclays bonus milestones).

Re: What Is The Greatest Travel Hack You Did?
Booked a seat on JetBlue they "upgraded" me to the exit row aisle. Unfortunately the gentlemen sitting in the middle was not Large he was super sized large with a BO that could kill a Rhino. My whole body was in the aisle and this was not going to work for me. (It was hot and he was sweaty and wearing very short sleeves). Then the Jewish brain clicked into hyper-drive.....When they came to ask if we were willing to help in case of an emergency, I said absolutely not!! Needless to say some other gentlemen who did not see how I was sitting jumped at the offer to get the exit row......The look he gave me on the way out was priceless..

Laugh of the day award goes to you! ;D

Re: - Master thread and support forum
Thank you for the suggestion. Great idea! I will pass this request along to our development team.

Another thing I forgot to mention: the possibility of copying over the itinerary details from the first segment when adding a connecting flight.  I mean, if I sell a ticket TLV-ATH-LHR all as a single ticket/PNR, it would be nice if there was the possibility of having the PNR #/ticket #/luggage/meal type etc. from the first segment copied over to the connecting flight.  But it shouldn't be automatic, just a simple button or something to click for it to populate the fields according to what was put in the first flight.

And I see you're in Israel like me --- any chance of adding full Hebrew support to the various text boxes?  I think it only supports Hebrew in the agency info text at the moment, and using Hebrew in any other field appears as gibberish when viewing the itinerary.

Re: Chase Offers Discussion Thread
Did anyone try using a chase hotel offer outside the u.s. ?

I can't vouch for hotels, but every time I've bought at Starbucks outside the U.S. (primarily in Europe at airports), I've received the credit despite it saying only U.S. locations/no airports/etc.

The AF is only 8900 points - .11% that you get back
How many other cards give you 2.11% back with no foreign transaction fees?

AOC Federal Credit Union - 3% no FX, no AF, no minimum redemption.  Not geolocked, but not a "simple" app.

Re: Etihad: 1:1 Bonus Tier Miles (up to 20K) On All Miles Transferred In Following up on my last post (the last post in this thread before this one):

Etihad confirmed I will be upgraded to Silver, so this promotion ended up being quite interesting.  They are also depositing free tier miles every month through the end of the year if you have status with them, so I will now also start to receive those (compound interest/ריבית דריבית!).

Maybe it will come in handy on the inagurual TLV-AUH flight, which I hope to be on.

Re: What Hotel Award Reservation Did You Just Book/Hold 5 nights at Hyatt Regency Belgrade. Regency Executive Suite at 10K/night, so 50K points before the 15% rebate. Net 42500 points, or 8500/night.

Cheapest member rate comes to total $1916.  So effective net 4.51 cents per point value!  Happy camper here, gmar chatima tova to all.

Re: Seeds getting planted for Emirates to fly to Israel? It's not about the hotel/beach quality.  It's about being a close, modern destination with Western freedoms above and beyond theirs.

I've seen various reports of wealthy Gulf residents "having a good time" in the U.S. for example, in a manner that would be forbidden or, at minimum, frowned upon in their home country.

Add to that the "exotic" factor Israel probably has for them, food they would certainly relate to, and an abundance of Arabic on signs/products etc., and the financial resources to enjoy it all. Putting myself in their shoes, it would be a very attractive concept.

Re: What Would You Change About El Al/Matmid (2021 Edition)?

Head of Matmid & El Al credit card offerings has resigned (rumor has it he was asked to).
Perhaps this recent thread of Dan's is a sign that he will take on the role?  ;D

I wonder if we'll see a U.S. person take on the role with more modern thinking about the program/card offerings.

Re: LY TLV-MIA $549 rt July/August/October
I don't know personally and haven't heard that story

But writing "I think" - maybe check facts first?

Besides the embezzling part, all the rest is 100% concrete and not "I think." I think (pun intended) that even without the last part (which is most likely accurate), those are enough reasons to pass on doing business with them.

Re: What Award Itinerary Did You Just Book/Hold? TLV-JFK (via CDG) using FB miles on AF for immediate travel: 137,500 miles + $300 or so in business
JFK-TLV (via CDG) using FB miles on AF for return a week later: 53,000 miles + $200ish, business

Absolutely 0 availability on my required dates using Qantas, AA, or Aegean miles (I have decent stashes of them all), so props to AF for even offering the space during this period of high demand to/from TLV.

Sadly still narrow-body on the TLV-CDG legs.

Bummer about the high price on the outbound, but getting in a quick visit to the family in NY after not seeing them for over a year now, before they close the skies again after elections.  At least I snagged saver on the return.  Overall happy to be in the miles/points game, which enabled me to not pay through the nose cash and sit in economy.

OT: Any tips on where to get a PCR covid test in NY (ideally upstate NY) with a near certain 48 hour or less turnaround would be highly appreciated!

Re: What Award Itinerary Did You Just Book/Hold? Follow-up #2:
I ended up doing 2 tests here in upstate NY to play it safe in terms of turnaround time (both free even for uninsured): a NYS-provided drive-thru test at the local SUNY and a drive-thru test at a Rite Aid in partnership with the Google Baseline project.  Both were the correct PCR type required by Israel.

Rite Aid test came back after only 23 hours (done at 10AM, results received 9AM next day).  The NYS test turnaround was 34 hours (done at 8AM, results received 6PM next day).

However, very good decision to do two tests: the specimen collection time was omitted in error (listed as 00:00) from the NYS test and would not have been accepted for travel!
