+'s don't feed the family.

Likes do. Hit that like button.
In this particular case, there is a significant difference between a +1 and a like.  +1 indicated the poster can confirm they don't fall out, whereas a Like would indicate that the poster likes the fact that they don't fall out.

Also, please PM how I can convert Likes to food for my family.

At the face of it this sounds right, but I would not make such a statement without knowing all of the facts from more than just the family's point of view.
You are correct. I should have prefaced with “If this is accurate.. “

A clear majority of both lists is just nonsense or only bad if you are a progressive incapable of seeing a point of view other than your own.

ETA:  I am highly unimpressed with Trump as President.  It's clear he lacks the discipline to keep himself from shooting himself in the foot (or chest) over and over again.

Re: Mayim Bialik NY Times Op-Ed Backlash
May all your lectures be so short and to the point :-)

You don't need me to come up with explanations and interpretations, you can just read her piece again. She doesn't blame the victims. She does say that modest dress and behavior can and does prevent many things, but doesn't say it prevents all abuse, assault or harassment.

With today's need to check boxes and put everyone on a specific side of an issue, we spout absolutes ("She victim shamed. Tznius does not prevent sexual assault") and end up losing any and all nuance or place for reasoned discussion.

I'm pretty sure almost everyone here would agree on two points:

1) No matter how a woman dresses or how much she flirts, sexual assault is never excusable.

2) Western culture's objectification of women increases the likelihood of inexcusable sexual assaults by men.

There is one specific email which keeps on coming into promotions versus the primary account.

Drag it to your primary tab and it should ask you if you want to do this for all emails from ****@***

Re: Trump-Republican tax plan bad for large families
How would this tax plan look different if people were able to vote on it instead of elected officials? Would that be a better structure?

I'm asking this only partly hypothetically- we almost have the technology today to get rid of elected officials entirely and replace them by giving voters the ability to weigh in on every issue directly.

The Founders chose a Representative Democracy over a Direct Democracy quite deliberately.

I agree, in general, it's a bad idea to post a picture that shows the cuts.  That wasn't necessary to determine the type of key.

I read this a while ago. Found it to be a fascinating read into the mindset of how quickly people can mentally human life as automatically worth respecting. I think it as worthwhile to read as The Wave.

Quite a read.  Just finished it.  I don't know how a moral society can allow this.  Far more important than tax reform, ACA repeal, or anything else for that matter is prison reform.

sexism - prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination, typically against women, on the basis of sex.

Judaism doesn't discriminate against women, it discriminates between men and women.  Not being able to discriminate between things that are different is usually considered a problem.

Re: Interesting Articles...

Compared to abstinence, imbibing one "standard drink" -- 10 grammes of alcohol, equivalent to a small beer, glass of wine or shot of spirits -- per day, for example, ups the odds of developing at least one of two dozen health problems by about half-a-percent, the researchers reported.

Looked at one way, that seems like a small increment: 914 out of 100,000 teetotallers will encounter those problems, compared to 918 people who imbibe seven times per week.

"But at the global level, that additional risk of 0.5 percent among (once-a-day) drinkers corresponds to about 100,000 additional deaths each year," said senior author Emmanuela Gakidou, a professor at the University of Washington and a director at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation.

Are you kidding me?  Increases risk by half a percent?  I have no formal statistics training but I can't imagine that the margin of error on such a study isn't far greater than half a percent.

Basically, they found no correlation between drinking once a day and health problems, but that didn't fit what they set out to prove so they jiggled the numbers a bit and still only managed to show a .5% increased risk.

Re: Re: RIP/BDE Master Thread
Much respect for him, but I did fee that towards the end of his life he was more worried about making a legacy for himself than supporting his party.

He was more loyal to his principles than to his party, an admirable trait if you ask me. You may disagree with his principles but why cast aspersions on a dead man's motives?  As far as I can tell, his stand on Obamacare and immigration fit with his long held philosophy of centrism.

Re: US Politics/2016 Election Pick Your Poison Master Thread
Sheep being led right to the slaughterhouse.

"I just know this. I like Donald Trump and I think that he's doing the right thing," said Keller, who turned out to support Trump Aug. 21 when he promoted his rollback proposal. She lives five miles from the 2,900-megawatt John Amos coal-fired power plant.

"I think he has the best interests of the regular common people at the forefront," Keller says.

"Trump's rollback would kill an extra 1.4 to 2.4 people a year for every 100,000 people in those hardest-hit areas, compared to under the Obama plan, according to the EPA analysis. For West Virginia's 1.8 million people, that would be equal to at least a couple dozen additional deaths a year."

If this article was any more slanted, it would tip over.

Not to trivialize 1.4 to 2.4 deaths per 100,000,  there is a cost to poverty and unemployment as well.  I imagine it would at least equal out.

If we move to ban anything that correlates to 2.4 deaths per 100,000,  what will we do about cars?

Quote from: Google Search
There were 34,439 fatal motor vehicle crashes in the United States in 2016 in which 37,461 deaths occurred. This resulted in 11.6 deaths per 100,000 people and 1.16 deaths per 100 million miles traveled.

On top of that,  the article cleverly disguises that Trumps plan is projected to SAVE lives.  Only when compared to Obama's unimplemented, theoretical, plan does it project cost of 1.4 - 2.4 lives per 100k.

"In Washington, EPA spokesman Michael Abboud said Trump's plan still would result in "dramatic reductions" in emissions, deaths and illness compared to the status quo, instead of to the Obama plan."

Thiomersal was actually removed from almost all children's vaccines, besides for some flu shots, as a precautionary measure because of the mercury in it.
I don't think it was done as a precautionary measure but rather as a (futile, in the end) attempt to placate the anti vaxxers.

Re: Interesting Articles... Israel is a notable exception as a country in the Middle East where Arab Christians can thrive, perhaps even more so than in Lebanon, and also happens to be the actual place Christianity began. That is very relevant to the article and no doubt the author is well aware.  He just went out of his way to avoid portraying Israel in a positive light.
