Re: New Like feature Why is this necessary altogether (even thumbs)?
Who really cares what everyone thinks about every comment? Why can't we have a simple conversation without the $.02? At most have it just for threads. But for each comment?

El Al 787 Dreamliner Master Thread I just came across this, which made me give a curious peek at the availability in Sep from TLV to LAX and to see what aircraft is showing. All the flights (LY5) are still showing the 772, but I came across this 1 "fake flight" (which is obviously just some sort of test being that it is on Shabbos and labeled LY555 (instead of 5) and showing 0 availability), and it's operated by a 787-9.

Expedia introduces a cool new feature - price drop insurance The following snapshot was taken from an itinerary for 2 passengers totaling just below $1500. For just $11 they would guarantee the difference of the price if the price drops up until the flight.

Re: Ua 747 final flight SFO-HNL So by years end there won't be a single double-decker aircraft in service from any US owned carrier. Is that not a little embarrassing?
BA will have 53 in service
Lufthansa 46
Emirates 97 (plus 45 orders)
Korean 43
Qantas 22
AF 10
KLM 15
and the list goes on...

Am I missing something?

As of now, LY 1 will be the last NYC flight to switch over (so far not on schedule for the upcoming 12 months)

Re: El Al 787 Dreamliner Master Thread
One of the most misleading titles/tweets I've ever seen on DDMS. They actually added capacity to NYC next winter and DD headline reads "major capacity cut". Gosh! You'd think Newark was on the west coast...
How about something like "El Al adds capacity in Newark while decreasing capacity at JFK" or "LY moves some capacity from JFK over to Newark". Almost reminds me of BBC reporting on Israel. The facts are actually the same. But it's all about how you present it to the readers.

Re: Flying with infant

ETA: This still hasn't been resolved. Alitalia is being most unhelpful. For starters, they have very limited cs hours and horrible service. Then, speaking to Chase and having them speak to airline and getting back to me with every detail is a pain. Should I call airline directly or do I have a benefit with Chase speaking to them?
Thanks again.
Sorry for the delay. Not sure when your flight is. But since we discovered the issue the issue a few weeks before the flight, it definitely helped. I called just about every department in Alitalia and got nowhere. We were dealing with a few thousand dollars at risk because they didn't offer a free change or refund either. Gave some money to tzedakah and filed a detailed complaint with the DOT. The DOT responded that this does not violate any of their rules but they have forwarded the complaint to the airline and they will respond directly to me. B"H a few weeks later, the airline got back to us that they have agreed to confirm the infant on the flight as they have not found any other alternative.
If you still have some time ahead of your flight, I would suggest that you try the DOT too. (don't forget the donation to tzedakah...)

United nonstop TLV - EWR roundtrip for $2797 in business class!! Must originate in TLV.
Many dates available! (through next July)
Sample dates Aug 20 - Aug 28

Re: United nonstop TLV - EWR roundtrip for $2797 in business class!!
I wonder if there are enough DDMS readers who would care about this?
Can't answer on that. You probably have a better idea how much of your readership is from IL. (can you tell from IP?). But I'm assuming that there's as much interest as some of the Amazon deals out there that aren't useful for many.
In any case, after a bit of research, this is probably an error fare to some extent, as it seems to be based off an LX fare and is pricing for UA too. This usually prices about $1000 more

Re: Once again El-Al has their annual 7 hour delay to tlv... United 84 yesterday had a massive delay forcing it to take off about 1am. At that point, they needed to take the pilots from flight 90 to operate the flight, causing UA 90 to be delayed a couple of hours until another crew arrived. When the new pilots arrived, everyone boarded and by the time they were ready to close the doors, the in-flight crew claimed they missed the deadline by about a minute (for maximum work time) and they could not take off. After a long fight with the ground staff (who claimed they should continue flight as planned), they needed to deplane (at about 4am) just to sleep in chairs (even the lounge was closed) until they can get the flight staffed at 8:30am (which eventually took off about 9:45am). These 2 delays obviously caused flights 85 and 91 from TLV today to be delayed by 7-8 hours.
Btw, the above story was United, not El Al. (of course - had it been El Al, it would have been reported here at least 15 hrs ago and possibly a DDMS article too)
Just saying.....

It is checked And there is a lot of availability even with United
I was responding to the one who said his dates weren't available on Expedia. Not helpful enough to know that the box is checked by you.

October 21, 2018, 09:42:16 PM
Re: United Status By using advanced booking options (on UA website), I believe you can request booking into a specific fare class. In that case, it shouldn't be hard to get something in between $350 and $700. If that doesn't work, you can contact a human TA and ask him to book her into a fare class that prices about $400.

Re: Canceling BA reservation
Flight tomorrow MIA - NYC J class on AA. Need to switch to Sunday. What's my best bet, cancel or change? Wiki says no cancellation within 24 hrs of flight. Are they strict with that? What about changes?
Update: Rep said none can be done within 24 hrs of flight. I asked for an exception and she agreed to change for $80 each passenger (x3 pax). I needed to split the PNR to have them rebooked on 2 separate flights. It got too complicated for her so she made a "one-time exception" to refund the Avios for just the $5.60 taxes so I can rebook them myself.  :D

but I can say the same about indulgence and gluttony  with many pesach hotel programs, and a good chunk of the DDF trip reports, so let’s keep this in perspective....
It's one thing to indulge oneself in flying F, Pesach programs, etc. It's another thing when the main purpose of the party is to show off just how awsome you are.... And especially when it's affecting the "ruach" of a community.

Re: Booking El Al with Qantas - master thread
So here's the breakdown
Lower Y fares.
Higher J fares on longer routes.
Lower YQ.
5 new partners.
Promised more availability.
Solid devals for LY, luckily we get the good only until Sept.
I guess that explains why ex-TLV has the new rate. Because it's Jun 20th here already.... And yes, J and PE have stayed the same so far BH

Positive Vision
By Rabbi Avrohom Neuberger

Day 36 - Who Is the Extremist? - A Realistic Assessment of Current Times

At one time, thinking, sincere people would struggle and debate about how much exposure to the “real” world was healthy for their children. Some chose to shelter their children from the outside world totally. Their primary concern was maintaining their children’s innocence.

Others felt that some degree of secular sophistication was needed - after all, chochmah bagoyim ta’amin, there is real secular wisdom - and they therefore allowed for a greater degree of exposure to the outside world. Parents had to carefully judge how much was too much, too little, or just right.

But to state the obvious, times have clearly changed. It is incontestable that in present times, whatever possible benefits secular society has to offer are far overshadowed by its complete and utter disregard of the concept of kedushah.

Here are some frightening statistics from Covenant Eyes, a non-Jewish company, which hosts WebChaver, the organization that provides an Internet buddy system. Bear in mind that the compilers of these statistics have a completely different standard of tumah than we do. If they included films that contain suggestive scenes, the statistics would be through the roof.

68 percent of young men use the internet to view grossly inappropriate images every week, as do 18 percent of young women. 93 percent of boys under 19 said that they have been exposed to such material. 56 percent of divorce cases involve one party having “an obsessive interest in such websites.” More than 1 in 5 searches on mobile phones are for such material.

In a word: Unadulterated tumah has become the default setting in secular society; it is part of its basic fabric.

This much then is obvious: Parents who do not allow, or stringently restrict, the media from entering their home are not being hermits, weirdos, or frummies. They are merely keeping their family’s dignity intact by maintaining a modicum of modesty. They are conveying to their children that the concept of kedushah does, in fact, exist.

Do not just nod your head in agreement. What are you waiting for? What is your excuse?

If you fail to safeguard your home, the following scenario is likely to occur, and you will have nobody to blame but yourself:

Your teenage son comes home Thursday night for an “off-Shabbos” to “chill.” Somewhere in the house is the computer with Internet access that you haven’t gotten around to filter just yet. His rebbi had given a shmuz so he promises himself to be good. It starts out well enough, but then he gets a little bored. Lying on the kitchen table is an Ipad, which again has not yet been filtered. [I know; it really slows it down.] He figures he’ll play a game on it, and he takes it with him to the bathroom and then the back porch. This warrior son of yours had by this time drawn on three hours of willpower and is reaching the bottom of his reserves. He figures he’ll give just a little peek to see what the latest “kosher” movie online is, but on that page there were more enticing things and whatever was left of his willpower is gone. So he fails. Having failed, he is depressed, which just aggravates the matter, so he looks some more. And before he knows it he has seen the worst things imaginable.

Now, he can’t daven and learn. He may even start crying because he feels like a rasha. But ask yourself: Is he the rasha? Or is it the facilitator who put him in this position?

Clean up your home now! How can you allow your family to be exposed to such standards?! Surely you care!
If you strengthen the bars of your gates, your children will be blessed in your midst.

Noone said this is a massive devaluation. All I said, is that United played a dirty trick by waiting 24 hours to implement the changes. Not like these close-in requirements were decided on Nov 15 in the afternoon... Seriously, no reason to get so excited.

Not sure what that means. I'll take that to mean to you couldn't find any.
@Dan claims to have checked the entire schedule through June and didn't find a single flight besides on Monday and Tuesday, and there haven't been any other reports here for other days of the week on this route.
