Re: Keeping Up With The Kushners Comment from the matzav article:
Quote
Dear author.
You made the mistake that many other people made. I’ve never seen an interview where Jared or Ivanka have claimed to be Shomer Torah Umitzvos.
She did once say that she likes Shabbos because of the gashmiyus aspects (peace and quiet, family time etc)
She does light Menorah (although she does it within her house, not by the window and uses candles)
He is never seen in public wearing a yarmulkah. Even during the Israel trip, although he did have one by the kosel.
Basically, no one actually thinks they are Orthodox, besides for Orthodox Jews.
Sadly they are like most American Jews (actually the vast majority) who have little connection to Judaism.
They do keep a handful of mitzvos maybe, but no one thinks they are Frum.
As far as her Geirus is concerned, that’s a shailoh for a Rav.
But no one should think that these are standard Frum family who are looking to buy a house in the middle of Flatbush.
Sadly, far from it.

I kinda agree. I think the "frum velt" were the ones that got all excited and advertised that אחות לנו בבית המלך, and are now feeling duped

Re: Re: Comments That Leave Me Speechless...
Not saying this pertains to all but to a good chunk... not caring about zmanim of tefillah. I'm not referring to shkiya which is a different issue.
Ma Kesher?!? I know a litvishe guy that learns daf-yomi and eats cholov akum and shaves his beard r"l, does that make gemara not a part of Torah?

Re: Re: Comments That Leave Me Speechless...
you mean chalav stam? Where is any of the above against halacha without a good basis to be based on?
1. You are mixing up "wrong" actions with the study of Torah that these people do. Just because they act in a way that you (as opposed to גדולי ישראל אמתיים, צדיקי עליון ) feel is against halacha, does not mean that something they study is suddenly not part of Torah.
2. On regards to it being "wrong", see parentheses above. Much stronger basis than cholov akum and shaving. No real people in pre-war Europe did that, ch"v

Re: Chabad Minhagim: Pros & Cons
I daven in a chabad shul quit often even-though i am very far from being chabad. I love the shabbos night dancing (is that all chabad?) and singing. I also like the hagbah practice of putting sefer torah back down and rolling it. It is just more practical and simple.
What is a bit more perplexing is the obsession with chasidus and דירה בתחתונים and not much else.  I do get the point but its really over focused upon. (I'm sure its good for some, but with a open mind i just don't connect with it).
Overall chabab peeps are amazing with hearts of gold and they bring so much joy to so many remote and close Jews.
If דירה בתחתונים is the purpose of my creation and the purpose of all the world's, it makes sense to be obsessed with it

You know, I always feel that there is a certain line you don't cross when speaking about tzadikim regardless of what you think/were brought up thinking about them. I feel like that line is crossed too often on DDF. Maybe im just naive and need to get out there more, but I would be scared to comment like that or many similar comments in the past

Re: Yom Kippur Davening
Am I the only one who doesn't understand this?
There's a very holy jew that doesn't want to allow his yetzer hara to disturn his Kavana during davening, and doesn't want to allow the Satan to be mekatreg, so he runs through davening like he's reading aseres bnei haman

Re: Yom Kippur Davening
Oops, maybe I shouldn't have mentioned the Tehillim part. Is it bordering on Kefira to say the whole Tehillim on the night of YK? Is there widespread criticism of the practice which I'm not aware of?
Is Yom kippur mechaper the saying of tehilim on Yom kippur?

Re: Chabad Minhagim: Pros & Cons So to summarize:
A big part of klal yisroel says tehilim after davening  as quoted above with many sources. However, each "sect" is different :
Chabad = Kefira
Belz, bobov and satmar = influenced by chabad
BMG = exception
Rav chaim kanievski = ?
Mishna berura (with a kadish!!) = ?

Re: How to ask a non-observant Jew to put on tefillin?
Can I just say, as a Modern Orthodox Jew I personally get frustrated by being asked to put tefillin on- often while I'm wearing a Kippah?
I, and as i understand, many lubavitchers as well, have had my tefillin used by people wearing yarmulkas countless times, dales minim even more. Many many people rely on it when they are late for work etc.
I guess it's worth those few that get frustrated ,for the many that benefit

Also:
Are you sure your yarmulke was visible?

Re: How to ask a non-observant Jew to put on tefillin?
It's insulting that you think I didn't put on tefillin today.
Lesson is: start looking more Jewish. Make it look more obvious.

Re: Chabad and the word 'San/Santa/Saint' in place names It seems like it started when rabbi levitanski brought the key (iinm) of the chabad house to the rebbe, and he was bothered by the idea of saying the name to the rebbe. when it was his turn he it popped into his head to call it Simcha Monica and apparently the rebbe was pleased with it

Re: Mezuzah Fraud
"making the rebbe proud" is a huge part of lubavicheh chinuch.
"so mammy, tatty and hashem will be so proud of me"
im sickened by the fact that they inserted mammy and tatty into such a sentence, and specifically in that order...

Re: How do you understand the story of Lavan and Rochel? I always understood that she was on the camel which was somehow in the tent. As a kid it made sense, now I dont care but still think she was on the camel

Re: How do you understand the story of Lavan and Rochel?
Your candid honesty is greatly appreciated.

What would you tell your kid if he starts questioning and inquiring into the story? Or if he comes home with an illustration of Rochel on a camel, and asks how it makes sense?
I would tell him to ask mammy
