The implication of her question "where is my baby" is that she expected the baby to still be in the car where she left it.
Or that she had just remembered that her baby was in the car and ran out in a panic only to find an empty car

Re: Money Orders
I passed an fr 4 months ago. Does that make a difference?

Yes. Very unlikely to get FR again within 12 months. I did, but when I told them I had been FR already in the past 12 months they cancelled the FR.

I've been doing 3rd party checks for a long time and haven't had issues (the FR I did get was actually before I ever did that).

I was joking. It's supposed to be dipped in water--it's a sous vide.

That was my thought process when I asked the shailah. Then I realized that the device as a whole should not be fully submerged in water as it can ruin the electronic component. The warning label says it should only be immersed till the etched line.

Re: How do you like your burger?
I cant believe we are missing such a thread so I created this! IMHO this does not belong in recipe master thread because I am a burger fanatic and there's so many types and options when making a good burger.

To start I am making a burger with pickles on bottom then burger but cant decide if next level is the sunny side eggs or pastrami, let me know what you guys think...

Why not both?

I like my burger with ketchup, mustard, and mayo on the bottom, then lettuce and tomato, then the burger, then pastrami or beef fry, then homemade thick cut onion rings,  topped with a fried egg, then aioli, then the bun.

Re: Food/Recipe Thread Brilliant tip from chef steps that I used very successfully tonight: after prepping your pizza on the peel and before transferring it to your oven, blow lightly at the base of the pie. It will sort of puff up the pie and ensure it slides smoothly from peel to stone
And incidentally, the pizza dough recipe on that site is brilliant

Re: Keeping Up With The Kushners
You're not serious about calling her geirus a sham if she leaves onions overnight, are you?

The problematic parts of the recipe is not putting it up until the night, and adding salt to the pot in the morning, but the recipe is not geared only for Shabbos, or for Jews, for that matter, so although some halachic disclaimers would have been nice, I don't think this is a big deal.
Come on, sarcastic font wasn't even needed for that one.

Re: Store Won't Take Returns From Lakewood, Brooklyn, Monsey, Monroe or Passaic
Will you be happy if she needs to raise the prices on everybody as a result ? Will you be happy if she ends up going bankrupt ?

I would be very unhappy if she goes bankrupt. If raising prices or creating a universally restrictive return policy is what's required, that is what she should do. Acting in an illegal and discriminatory manner, not to mention causing a massive chillul Hashem, is not the solution. Strictly requiring that all returns be in perfect condition would be a good place to start.

Re: Pesach Program in Greece Cancelled Just Now!
To those of you complaining about Pesach programs in general, would you go if it were free?

Also, the guy running the program actually lives in Belgium, so I'm not sure if he qualifies as Israeli.

My parents were offered the opportunity to go to a Pesach program for free (as a speaker) several times. They declined. It goes against both their minhagim of not "mishing" on Pesach as well as the Pesach atmosphere they aim for at home. I'm sure they are not unique.

Re: Budget to penalize large families!
You really can't understand this can you? It's not looked at per child amount, that's just how they decide an amount to give you. Regardless they are cutting the total you are receiving as a benefit, not an entitlement. Learn to be happy with what you have. And how dare you accuse me of not caring for the poor! If you had any clue who I was or where I came from, I highly doubt you'd be saying that.
Of course it's looked at as a per child amount. Up to 8 family members, each additional qualifying child increases the benefit amount, which is logical - each child needs to eat. After that, under this proposal, the benefit would be capped. That means in practical terms that child number 7 and on receive no food stamp benefit.
If we as a country believe that there is some level of social responsibility that the government bears to ensure its citizens don't go hungry, then this cut makes no sense. Every child, including those in large families, should get the benefit they qualify for based on family income. If we believe we can't afford as a country to provide this benefit as it stands, then cut evenly across the board, or identify less at risk groups, like healthy adults, and cut them from the program. Cutting benefits from children from large families is a moral judgment that poor people should not have large families

Re: Budget to penalize large families!
Let's assume Bob can get a job that pays $35K.
If Bob is a single father with 1 child, he will only make $25K equivalent off of programs.
If Bob is a father of 7, he will make $60K equivalent off of programs.

How do we get Bob the father of 7 to work?
Bob the single father will lose his programs if he gets the job. Bob the father of the large family will continue to qualify, because both benefits and eligibility change with family size

Re: Random Posts

I would like to be Mefarsem the Nes that HKB"H did for me two years ago on this day,

I was up in the cottage country in Canada on a jetski with another person and we took a bad turn and fell off the jetski in the middle of the lake, B"H we were both wearing lifejackets- we got separated from each other and from the jetski immediately, the water was freezing cold as it was only the beginning of June.
After 20-25 minutes in the water I began to get very cold and very tired, I was barely able to move my legs from the cold and I was starting to give in - I had already said Kries Shema and was repeating any Kapitlach that I knew I could hardly see the other person and I was sure this was the end.
Bechasdi Hashem a boat finally spotted us and picked the other person up and came to get me and brought us back to shore as soon as he saw we were okay he was gone (I never go to properly thank him), the paramedics came and told us that we both had hypothermia, his bad enough that he needed to get IV and go to the hospital but by the time we got there his body had gone back up 4-5 degrees which is apparently unheard of, we spent around an hour in the hospital before leaving to make it back to Toronto in time for Shabbos.

Thank you Hashem, Boruch Shechayni Vekiyemani Lazman Hazeh.

I would like to take this opportunity to beg you all , as we get to the summer time don't forget! The water is a dangerous place - PLEASE ensure that everyone who goes onto the water has life jackets, make sure you have some way to contact them, be very aware of when the last time you heard from them was (my friends were already out looking for me because they knew I was supposed to be back) please please please take my warning, be safe!

Bumping this to say we're glad you're still with us BH!

Re: Switzerland Master Thread Here it is: landed in zrh, crazy line for entering country but moved pretty quickly, about half an hour. Picked up sim in the airport. Rented car through Priceline from europecar. Drove to Titlis, stunning scenery along drive. Missed a turnoff because I couldn't get Waze to talk and I was trying to do some stuff online while we were driving, added half an hour to get there, but the stunning scenery made it worthwhile. Got there, parked, you pay at the entrance if you're going to park for more than an hour. Paid, took the cable car. Got off at there halfway station by mistake, gorgeous lake. Went back on and back up to the top. It was somewhat cloudy which was a pity. Suspension bridge was fun but no view because of the clouds. Took the ice flyer to the other peak, then went sledding down the hill, lots of fun. No tubing because there wasn't enough snow. We didn't have enough time for the ice cave because of the extra time driving there and we weren't sure where it was anyway. Made some new Israeli friends and took the cable car down with them. Got back to the airport, returning the car took less than five minutes, getting through the airport took a little longer so we didn't have time for showers at the lounge. It was amazing all around, I would definitely recommend

Re: Hairgate I am a parent in this school.

First of all, it is an incredible school. Far from what has been assumed here and wherever this video is being discussed, they give over an excitement and pride of Yiddishkeit to their students. The principal is an incredible woman. She knows every girl in the school, and any of my daughters will tell you that she loves them. When people talk about how schools should be teaching students to love and live Yiddishkeit instead of just seeing it as a list of dry rules, they should be looking at this school for how to do that.

All that said, there is nothing wrong with a school having rules and enforcing them. The school has always had a rule that when hair is worn down it should not be beyond a certain length. This year they extended that, saying that all hair should not be longer than 4 inches below the shoulder. This rule may be new for this year, but is very much in consonance with the overall rules of the school and standard of tznius that they have had for many years. Any parent who is upset about this rule didn't do even basic research about the school before sending there. This is not an out of town community school. This is Lakewood, with countless girls schools, and whoever sent here did so because they were looking for this particular standard.

Incidentally, the school did send out letters to parents signed by a prominent local Rav who is on the school's Rabbinical advisory board, asking mothers to be aware of how long sheitels have become standard and suggesting a sheitel length. Mothers are not students, but the school did ask parents to be partners with them in maintaining a standard of tznius.

For those who are calling this child abuse, just don't tell my daughters they are being abused. Nobody actually there thought it was a huge deal, more like it was funny. None of my daughters are confused about what is halacha and what is chumra, none of them think long hair is the same as not covering knees. They know the halachos of tznius and they know that there is an overall tzura of tznius that the school is aiming for.

Finally, as others have mentioned above, this was during nit check. It was not during school. There are no more than a small handful of people in the room at any time, and nobody was made to feel embarrassed. The girls whose hair was too long were simply told to please get a haircut before school started. There was no shaming, no public spectacle... and it was done by a secretary, not even a principal or teacher. Again, not one girl in the room looked like it was a big deal. Yes, it was new, and girls who liked their hair long may have been upset to have to cut it, but none of them felt embarrassed or "abused".

Its only temporary that they should be able to pass it with 51 votes. If it would be permanent then it would cost more than 1.5 trillion and that would require 60 votes.
Of course, they could have accomplished the same thing by doing it the opposite way, making the tax cuts for the middle class permanent and those for corporations temporary

Re: Why do some Jewish communities prohibit women from driving?
Hmm. What if I wear colored shirts but my wife doesn't have a long sheitel? Is there a school for that?
The hyper polarization of Lakewood schools is an unfortunate but almost inevitable outcome of a community with such a large number of schools.
