Re: Chase Reconsideration
Business card will be another pull.
Worth the pull, especially since the card is going away.

Pulls are incredibly overrated on DDF, and I can't figure out why.

Bottom right corner for me.

I didn't immediately think of any other company when I saw it (good for bookmarks and browser tabs etc...)

It would work well as the first letter of the full name version of the logo (that would be used everywhere else)
Unlike most of the other ones.

Still needs polishing though.

Have Israeli sites, which all require passwords in English, accept the exact equvilant when typed on a Hebrew keyboard.
On a similar note, if your keyboard is in Hebrew and you type an English question into Google, it'll search for the question you asked in English even though all you actually entered was a bunch of gibberish.

Re: Cloud backup
Anyone have suggestions for a good cloud backup service plan for 1tb (1000 gb) of storage or unlimited including videos. i prefer it to be automatic backup and good for more than one device. i would also like it to be able to share easily. very important is for it to be reasonably priced.
Have you looked into Crashplan?

Also, whomever you use, check if they have the option To send you the data on a hard drive in the even if a crash, as downloading a terabyte can take days, if you are at all able to...

I think Backblaze does it for free if you return the drive to them...

For one, people have been telling people to post more.
The post padding deletions and PMs are getting unbearable. Might need to undo this and/or just delete this board.
I certainly hope you can come to some other solution, as this board is genuinely useful, and many times it's the best place anywhere to find certain things.

They're had to redo it every year, and it's not always as consistent, but I've seen it work.
Personally it didn't work for me though, so YMMV.
Definitely worth a try though.

you can transfer points to Turkish from Citi ThankYou Rewards (1 to 1) or from Marriott Bonvoy (60K to 25K).

Re: Internet Filters
This is an incredible idea. But there are some things that whoever your admin is you wouldnt want them specifically to see. Not something bad, but something private. Some peoples phone contain literally all the information you'll ever need about them and you don't want someone getting screenshots of everything.
For anything containing text, it does a great job blocking ALL text in images.
See attached example image showing a WhatsApp chat, Tapatalk, and Google Maps.

I can think of a few other private things that would be harder to redact, such as video calls, but text redaction handles most items.

Re: Jewish Music (New CDs, hock, and opinions)

Why do we have to go through the "what is Jewish music" every darn song that is released.
It's written by a frum Jew.
The lyrics are by a frum Jew.
The performer is a frum Jew.
The lyrics are about his love for his kids. For all the cheesiness, that doesn't make it goyish.
So what's not Jewish about it? That it doesn't repeat the same 4 words or of Tehillim over and over?

I get why you wouldn't like the song, but why the need for this jab?

Jewish songs should center around G-d and our relationship with him.

Not gonna go here (just did) but songs like this about some guy's fatherly feelings, or by MordyShap about its nice to hang with friends, are not sanctioned by halacha.

Point being, it's not a Jewish song just because it's sung and composed by a Jewish artist.

Maybe we could use 2 categories:

Jewish/Holy music: center around G-d and our relationship with him.

Parve music: there is nothing "not Jewish" about it.
It's written by a frum Jew.
The lyrics are by a frum Jew.
The performer is a frum Jew. Etc.

He should have a platinum.

I know he booked a rental for tomorrow, for the next month.

Not quite sure how I'll get him president circle by tomorrow morning.
Worth a shot?
I emailed them the request and got matched the next day.

Maybe he can pop in and switch during the rental?

Platinum card gives Marriott bonvoy gold elite (Instant over the phone)

I matched that Marriott to National via the national website (took a few days) and then national to hertz via email (next day).

Re: Masks Are there any masks with "reverse" valves that lets you inhale unfiltered and fresh air and only filters out exhalations (droplets etc).

I'm asking as someone who:

- has a beard, so most masks won't really help protect me
- is low-risk
- has antibodies
- has a recent negative test
- only wears a mask when asked to (indoors within 6 feet, or on a plane etc).

This would let me breathe fresh air while protecting those around me on the slim chance that I have Covid...

Re: Shabbos at A Hotel Master Thread
Hmmm. Let's see.

You tie a longish string to the door-handle on the inside, and you let a bit of it trail out of the door when you leave (2 inches will do so it's unnoticeable). When you need to open the door you schlep the string and it pulls on the handle and opens the door.
I don't know how well it works in practice, or if it works on all types of doors, but the guy was demonstrating and it seemed seamless.
It might be a good idea to leave the "do not disturb" sign outside the door so they don't do room service and lock you out...

Re: Would this change the shidduch picture conversation?
You don't think it's possible that two people meet and it's quickly evident to both of them that there's no potential (whether for hashkafic disparities, life vision disparities, personality disparities, or plain old they can't stand each other)?
If the research has been done right, then there should be very few cases that don't warrant another look.

May 06, 2021, 01:46:39 PM
Re: Would this change the shidduch picture conversation?

Oh, give me a break. Yea, sure, there's definitely a lot that's hard to tell from a first date but to think that someone is inherently incapable of understanding enough about someone to know that they will not be marrying them after spending a few hours with them is asinine. I'll agree that in a situation where you like some things about them but the date just didn't go well, you should go out again, but to say you always have to go out twice is ridiculous.

You mention 2 cases, one where you "know" that you won't be marrying someone after a few hours, and where you like some things but it "didn't go well".

What percentage of ppl who want to reject is the 1st and what is the 2nd?

I disagree that at 20-something with little relationship experience, you can "know" with absolute certainty that someone isn't for you after a few (usually awkward) hours.
If that's your attitude, by all meant don't go out again, as you'll just hurt her by going on a "pity" date!

BUT, If you are willing to properly examine your thoughts with an open mind, and not take this "knowing" as absolute, understanding that that things you "know" can and will change as you get to know someone better, than you owe it to yourself and to her to go out again.
It's not second-guessing yourself, it's an understanding that even when you FEEL that your mind is made up, that's not always the case. (This is also an essential skill in marriage IMO).
I don't know how many times you've has bad 1st dates, but the above is written from experience.

If the problem is that you have conflicting values by all means don't go again, and try to get better research next time to minimize those encounters.

Re: Would this change the shidduch picture conversation?
How many people say no to someone based off a somewhat "off-colored" comment by a reference? If they would only know the personality of the prospect (and/or the person giving the info), its very well a perfect match. IMO a lot more matches are killed for foolish reasons prior to the couple meeting, then after a 1st date.
While this is very true, it does not have to do with reasons to cancel after a 1st date...

May 07, 2021, 11:28:14 AM
Re: Would this change the shidduch picture conversation?
Meaning that in general, you think that it's better to say no before a first date than after a first date.

Many would take very strong exception to this.
By definition usually you say no before a 1st date.... Based on the resume and research!

Unless I'm not understanding what you mean?
