Re: looking to buy one order of 4 coins from todays mint
It would also be nice to get a 10% return when the S&P 500 goes up 10% even though you decided to put your money into a CD.
That would be nice too. But here your customers have the ability to ditch you and take a better payout.

And if you think closing down their accounts will make them not do it again think again. Because I'm sure you do not have the capabilities to track IP addresses (*edit: actually a high chance you could but still→) and even if you do people could easily get new ones without a problem

Re: Best Sukkah?
Me too

I was going to buy....
Leiter sukka someone piped up "What it's too expensive, Buy the traditional panel sukka for 3rd of the price, $30 panel",

I was going to buy the traditional panel sukka, someone piped up "What you're buying panels just buy quarter inch 4x8 plywood from home depot let them cut it in half with a few 2x3 for half price",

I was going to buy quarter inch 4x8 plywood from home depot someone piped up "Plywood they bend out of shape from rain and shine, build panels you better off, all you need is wood glue carpenter nails 2x2 and panels the way to go"

I was going to build sukka panels, I searched on ddf and And ushdadude built one 2 years ago and is still in the market, I'd rather pay three times the price then buing (cheep) every year.

So I'm totally confused..
My opinion. Buy the fiberglass 4ft walls for however much they cost. Buy the standered size they have been making for the past 30 years (back when it was green and yellow. My sukkah has three different style walls, all of them produced many years apart from each other) so you can expand whenever you need to. The brackets and walls are still being made and will probably not stop being made for many many years. Its light and simple to put up, and lasts forever as long as you dont accidentally drop it off your deck and have the fiberglass smash when hitting a blunt object on the ground.

And since I buy bamboo poles and not mats: get bamboo from a nursery for half the price of any sukkah place.

Re: Car Lease Master Thread

the companies clearly have the residual values wrong...

If your not in the biz you dont actually know whats going on. I'm not in the biz but I can speculate (and base on friends who do leasing) that with the competition now days there is much less money to make. And that normally dealers take a nice commission on each car they sell, making the MSRP much higher than what the dealer gets it for.  Combine the two points above - they have a small margin of income and are getting it for cheaper than you - viola, the numbers are right although seem wrong. Sorry if I didnt explain this well, and missed/skipped a few steps.

Re: Free 1 hour Sleep!! Exp. tomorrow

It's like this Old Powerful story said over ;

This is a great email. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did
Imagine that you had won the following *PRIZE* in a contest:
Each morning your bank would deposit $86,400 in your private account for your use. However, this prize has Rules:
The set of Rules:
1. Everything that you didn't spend during each day would be taken away from you.
2. You may not simply transfer money into some other account.
3. You may only spend It.
4. Each morning upon awakening, the bank opens your account with another $86,400 for that day.
5. The bank can end the game without warning; at any time, it can say, "Game Over!" It can close the account, and you will not receive a new one.
What would you personally do?
You would buy anything and everything you wanted right? Not only for yourself, but for all the people you love and care for. Even for people you don't know, because you couldn't possibly spend it all on yourself - right?
You would try to spend every penny, and use it all, because you knew it would be replenished in the morning, right?
Shocked ??? Yes!!!
Each of us is already a winner of this *PRIZE*.
We just can't seem to see it.
1. Each morning we awaken to Receive 86,400 seconds
As a gift of Life.
2. And when we go to sleep at Night, any remaining time
is Not credited to us.
3. What we haven't used up that Day is forever lost.
4. Yesterday is forever Gone.
5. Each morning the account is Refilled, but the bank can dissolve your account at any time WITHOUT WARNING...
SO, what will YOU do with your 86,400 seconds?
Those seconds are worth so much More than the same amount in dollars. Think about it and remember to Enjoy every second of your life, because time races by so much quicker than You think.
So take care of yourself, be Happy, love deeply and enjoy life!
Here's wishing you a wonderful And beautiful day.
Start spending....
Forward this to everyone you care about! I just did......

Sounds like a Nigerian scam to me.

Re: Skiing 101

Going for the 1st time skiing, plan on staying for shabbos near  the poconoes, which mountain would be the best for me to go as a beginner?  Mountain creek, camel back?
I went to mountain Creek when I went skiing for the first time and enjoyed it.
Also any recommendations if there's rentals near these locations which I can pick up a pair of skies and poles? (I heard the rental for the skies are a few $ more at the ski resort, that true?
It is true, we rented at a place near the mountain which was very helpful with getting the right size, I don't know the name thou. After the first day I went back and had them tighten the ski's to the boot a little because apparently they snapped off every time I tried stopping.
(am I suppose to take lessons, or can one pop on the mountain and learn from scratch and from watching other skiers?
How much can a lesson cost? Same as a lift package?

Take lessons.

Re: Pesach Program in Greece Cancelled Just Now!

AFAIK there are no "heimeshe" soda plants. Just regular bottling facilities that do private labels. As far as beverages go, if it was an all Pareve facility and all ingredients were approved prior, maybe they had authorization to begin prior to mashgiachs arrival.

Certain heimeshe soda brands have a distinct flavor, so much so that they must be making it themselves. Anyways as far as a mashgiachs job goes, he's the one supposed to authorize anything.

Re: credit repair As a business ??
You mean like miles brokers? How did that work out last year with one of the major ones?
Does your supermarket allow you to owe them $1000?
Does your mechanic not charge you if he says the second hand car your buying (from someone else) is garbage?
Does your accountant tell you to use and online tax software when they do a better job for you?
Maybe because there is so much trust we have a few more scams, but a trustworthy business will get business based on trust alone.

Re: Let's get Hebrew for Duolingo v2
Here's my update:
As I've found in other DDF threads on learning languages, DoC among others, pointed out that Duolingo is good for vocab, but not so great for grammar. I used it for Hebrew for a few weeks consistently on the train, and I agree. It's a fun app, but I don't feel like I can have a conversation any better than I was able to beforehand. I thought this would really help since I already have a background in Hebrew, but it didn't. Add in the fact that the brain can be quite good at figuring out games/puzzles, and I was often able to guess the correct answer even if I didn't know the true definition of a word/sentence, and it was time to stop using the app.
Having a backround may impede the learning process

Re: Master Thread of Pet Peeves

I've had this debate before. What do you answer when someone knocks?

1. Answer in the third person (someone's in here)?
2. Answer as if someone knocked on front door (who's there; der tatte iz nisht in der hoizen)?
3. Noise (cough; flush)?
4. No answer, I'm absolutely sure I locked it, let them try the knob.
Number 4 scares me thou...

The bathroom doors that lock with just pushing in a button (I always feel like it isn't actually locked, and I can't check if it is!)

And a RP from last year...
Guys like me. I'm done trying to rush around the bima and getting all bent out of shape about the guy that you perceive as spacing out... Now I take my merry time and only move when there are daled Amos open...
Basically, we're all in this together, and are at the mercy of the chazan anyway. We're not going home until HE has had his fix....

But the short-cut guys... are the pits! Don't get me started.

Re: New Coin Deal
It may be unfair, but that's business. When the price goes down and a business doesn't honor the deal, he may as well close shop. When the price goes up, and the guy with one coin doesn't honor his deal, he has nothing to lose.
Yes, if someone end up with more money and someone else took a risk just for him to go and cut him out, he is a good business man. But also an immoral, amoral, unprincipled, unscrupulous, dishonorable, dishonest, wrong, deceitful, unconscionable, unfair, fraudulent, underhanded, wicked, evil, sneaky, and corrupt person.

Afraid you'll miss something because you didn't hear about it? Nothing that a friend didn't tell you about personally is worth going to. This rant goes on...
