Welcome to DDF. Let me show you around. I'm Yitzy and I'm pretty new here myself, but I did do intensive exploration before I dared post my first post. I quickely learned that here at DDF there are threads about everything, from where to buy colored toilet paper, to what to do if Chase closes your accounts (which we call by its sophisticated name, Chase A/A or Adverse Action). Please feel free to look around, and ask any questions you wish, but perhaps do so in a preexisting thread, preferably in the Beginners section. Thank you and enjoy the rest of your Purim.

And thanks for being civil and nice and directing him in the right direction instead of shoving links into his face and barking at him to go over to a different thread. He's obviohsly not very familiar with the site and being nice can't hurt.
As a relative newbie myself, one of my biggest fears is to get lashed out by one of those Dans Deals Melech Ten Times Lifetime Members with 62.4 billion posts.  ;)

Jewish Music (New CDs, hock, and opinions) I think it's about time to start a thread in which Jewish music fans can turn to for all info that pertains to the Jewish Music (herein JM) industry, and to voice their opinions about everything JM. There's a thread for Music Videos ( http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=12202.msg1011279#msg1011279 ) and a thread for Sheet Music ( http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=25484.msg1051954#msg1051954 ) but nothing for just random "What do you hold about the fact that Yochi Briskman put Hastura and Hishbati on his new Relax CD?". And so I created this thread. I know that many JM fans turn to Twitter and other social media outlets for their hock, but DDF is really an ideal lounge to have such discussions.

Re: Jewish Music (New CDs, hock, and opinions) whyME: There are many different ones but I'll tell you a few that come to mind. Beats by Yoily Greenfeld and Even Al got rave reviews. It's a more modern style heavy album in the Even Al style. The Second Dance 2 is a great album with a focus on real and high quality music. The sound is amazing but I personaly didn't enjoy the song selection. Many of the songs were old songs and I enjoy newer style songs. The Simchas HaChaim series, numbers 1-4, are more Chassidish, but is one-man-band music. There's Dance with Meshorerim, which is pretty good. I didn't like that they paired up the songs with the singers who originally sang them and missed the opportunity to create original combos. If you're not looking for new stuff, then you could try Dance With Shloime Daskal (not Tanz - that's much older and is one-man-band) which is pretty good. Other older stuff which is good is Project X 3 with Daskal and Shwekey Besimcha, if you like Shwekey. I definatly missed many good albums, but I'm writing this off the top of my head.

My letter to Spirit Dear Spirit Airlines:

I have some ideas how you could make more money and I’m baffled as to why you didn’t already incorporate these ideas into your prices. I can’t believe you didn’t think of them yourself, but just in case you didn’t, I’m sending them to you so you can start charging for them right away.

o Only allow a set body weight to be included in the ticket. Charge anyone who weighs more than, say, 150 lb. a $2 surcharge for every pound above the limit.
o Limit passengers to wearing only a shirt, a pair of pants, and shoes. Sweaters should cost $10, coats $20, etc.
o Lap-children should be charged based on their age and the amount of noise they make during the flight.
o Put a credit card machine on the bathroom door on all your airplanes and charge a fee for access.
o Flights with weather-related delays should retroactively bill more for the ticket because the crew has to be paid overtime.
o Also add a “mandatory gratuity” if the plane takes off on time. After all, everyone expected it to be delayed.
o Create self-serve flights, so that you can add a surcharge for full-service flights with pilots and stewardesses.
o Add a customer service surcharge and legal fees to all tickets, because everyone is bound to complain about something.
o Start charging for carry-ons. Oh, I forgot. You already do.
o Charge for beverages. Oh right, you do that too.
o Charge an access fee for using the jet-bridge. Staircase access will stay free.
o Add an expensive landing surcharge because everyone will be willing to pay just about anything to get down once they’re in the air.
o Because cell phones require extra crew scrutiny to assure they’re off, all phones should have to be checked, in separate bags of course (make up a FAA regulation or something like that).
o Charge an access fee for using the aisle. After all, if there wasn’t an aisle you would be able to fit a lot more seats.
o Place a “donate to Spirit” charity box on top of every seat. You never know how stupid people will be.
o Add a “Pearl Harbor Security Fee”. After all, nobody complains about the September 11th Fee.

Thanks for taking the time to read my letter. I look forward to seeing some of these ideas implemented in the near future, so I can be more confident in my decision to never ever fly Spirit.

Re: Jewish Music (New CDs, hock, and opinions)
For sefira I just wrote a post for that's frum and yidwise called "the top 12 acapella songs you never heard" after I got bored of hearing the same 3 songs all sefira.
http://www.thatsfrum.com/2017/05/this-piece-originally-apperad-on-yidwise.html
Any DDFers want to share their thoughts?
Great writing, though I am not familiar with most of the songs because I only listen to pure vocals accapella during Sefira. But it was enjoyable reading nevertheless.

One comment. You mentioned that Shabbosdige Oitzrois is hard to find. I bought it a few years ago as part of a Accapella collection MP3, I believe it was this one https://mostlymusic.com/products/lchaim-vocally-mp3-collection-cd?variant=835288177. It is also available on it's own from Mostly Music. https://mostlymusic.com/products/shabbosdige-oitzros-cd?variant=1037287665

Re: Can you share your experience travelling with a lulav? Best lulav tip I heard- I use it every time and it never failed me: I went to Lowes and bought an L shaped molding that was longer than the Lulav (they cut it down for me for free). Then I put the Lulav into the molding, and secure it with pull-ties (the plastic ones that you pull to tighten and need to cut them to remove). I then put it into a standard plastic case just for the handle. I bought the molding many years ago and it still works, though it is relativly cheap, so you can throw it away each year if you want.

Re: Jewish Music (New CDs, hock, and opinions)
Somewhere many pages ago that I can't seem to find there was a mention of composers that have just one hit song and that's it.

I was wondering who could be put on that list
YouTube has someone listed for מה אשיב (you know the song some love and some hate every chol hamoed) I think it's avinoam wolfson - never heard of him.

Tov lehods was composed by Yo Aisentark who has written other songs too but none nearly as popular.

I guess כי הרבית could go on the list too.

Anything else come to mind?
I could think of a few. Some may have more than one song, but not more than a few.

R' Avi Fishoff (of Twisted Parenting) - Shabbos in Mezshbish (and I guess Hearts of Gold) https://mostlymusic.com/products/shabbos-in-mezibuz-sheves-achim-triple-cd?variant=835212841

Rabbi Menachem Davidowitz (Rosh Yeshiva in Rochester) - In Ah Vinkele (Tatte Tatte) https://mostlymusic.com/products/lshem-shomayim-cd?variant=835246933  https://mostlymusic.com/products/volume-1-2-3-cd?variant=1037301789

R' Moshe Schmeltzer (Menahel of Telshe Chicago) - Yehuda Green's Teshuasam https://mostlymusic.com/products/yehuda-green-barcheini?variant=1014507045

Just a few offhand

I did not feel like the frum kids did a good job when I used them, so I'd rather go for a car wash to get it cleaned better for cheaper, and spend the same few minutes going over it again.
I've had experiences where they did a thorough job with steam-cleaners. Better than any professional place I used. Boils down to YMMV.

Re: Lakewood NJ Master Thread
I received a recorded call inviting me to an event for a new Lakewood organization. I'm curious how organizations get these phone numbers...Do established orgs. sell their lists? It's seems likely that they are calling a targeted group of people. How much info is included on these lists?
I don't know, but these recorded phone calls have reached the point of driving me insane. They are relentless, and come at the worst of times. If an organization wants money, can't they have the decency of having a live person call me and ask?

I would like to propose a solution. It is only the core, and more thought would have to be done to implement it successfully.

A petition should be circulated (not just online - many Lakewood residents don't have access) that reads roughly as follows:

"Robocalls have become an increasingly bothersome phenomenon. [expound on the annoyingness and insensitivity here.] As much as we try to give tzedaka to every worthy organization, circumstances have driven us declare that we will not donate money to any organization that engages in such tactics. It may bother us to withhold our money, but it serves as our only method of ending this madness once and for all. (We will once again consider donating after a year [or other time frame] has passed.) Besides for donating, we will refrain from attending any event advertised via recorded message to our phones, and will also refrain from voting for any candidate [whom we can verify (we don't want sneaky candidates callings us with recorded messages to vote for their opponents)] who engages in these robocalls as well. Please understand us. Calls with recorded messages at all times of the day rob us of our menuchas hanefesh. If you have a message important enough for us to hear, kindly have a live person pick up the phone and give us a call. Thank you,

Signed [by enough people to convince organizations to stop robocalling us]"

Re: Vaccine Discussion Master Thread
I vax and I think antivaxxers ares mostly nuts.

But from a Daas Torah perspective, R’ Shmuel kamenetsky and R‘ Malkiel  Kotler, two of the leading gedolei poskim verabbanim in America, are both vehemently antivax. And the central Agudah/Moetzes has never put out anything pro vaccination publicly. Just saying.
If a person asks their shaalos to one of the aforementioned two, then we have something to talk about. But a person has no right to cherrypick a rov if that rov is essentially a daas yochid.

Re: Jewish Music (New CDs, hock, and opinions) After listening to some sefira albums, I feel a need to reiterate a rant I once had

*RANT ALERT*

I hate these people who produce a "Sefira CD" that has just a bunch of people singing, and charge $15 for it. Can it be justified to charge the same amount as an album that has full music (which is the most expensive part of the production)? And many of these albums sound horrible. There's a great one liner that sums it up: " Sefira albums are the only type of albums that a guy could wake up in the morning and decide to put one out, and have it completely finished before he goes to sleep. And from the way that many of them sound nowadays, it seems like that's exactly what happened!" Listen up producers: it takes more talent to put out a good acapella album then it takes to put out a good music album. On an acapella album, you can't hide behind the music. If you don't have the talent to create beautiful harmonies and whatever else you need to make a nice Sefira album, please turn over and go back to sleep. Thank you.

Re: If you could ask Dan one question, what would it be ? Serious question. How do you handle a job that essentially could keep you busy at all hours of the day (even with a JJ to help). Do you have hours that you shut off your phone/computer and tune out the entire site? Does your wife sometimes go crazy when you are busy posting a "SMOKING HOT!!" deal when she's waiting for you to put the kids to bed? Would you recommend/not-recommend such a job to others?

(This is essentially a question for any time-sensitive-topic blogger or online news writer. It's just that Dan has been doing it successfully for a long time, so I would ask him specifically.)

Re: Riddles!
A man lives on the twelfth floor of an apartment building. Every morning he takes the elevator down to the lobby and leaves the building. In the evening, he gets into the elevator, and, if there is someone else in the elevator -- or if it was raining that day -- he goes back to his floor directly. Otherwise, he goes to the tenth floor and walks up two flights of stairs to his apartment.

What's the situation?
He's too short to reach the 12 button without his boots or the help or another?

Re: Disabling Ring doorbell for shabbos I use the Circle by Disney app to kill the wifi to my Ring every week. It is available for use with many Netgear routers - check online if yours is compatible. It's much simpler than killing the motion zones or manually shutting wifi. I just set up a Circle profile with only my ring in it, and pause it every Friday at the same time that I shut my fridge lights. If I would use the paid version of Circle, I would be able to set the ring to shut automatically on a schedule, but I don't have any use for the other features so I just use the free version and use it as a kill switch.

Re: Disabling Ring doorbell for shabbos
To clarify my sequence comment :
Regardless of what external display results, the very gave that the sensor noted a motion, sets on motion a programming sequence. Without wifi it may error out at the 'recording stage, it may not display a light, but the circuits in the program have been set in motion.
Depending on which shita in electricity shabbos in general, this can be an issue.

(a similar issue was raised by rabbi LY Halperin a"h in response to the kosher switch (which badly resembles his 1970s invention more than anything else)
But it would be a psik reisha d'lo nicha lei, since you get absolutely no benefit from the sequence, and it's probably a d'rabonon, so practically all poskim (that I know) would say it's not an issue. The only time there is a sheila is when you potentially derive benefit from a light or a recording.
