Re: Jewish Philosophy
What happened to I think it was @username that asked me what "shtayim shehaim arba" means? I guess I'll write the answer without the question.

 Shevuos. Tumah. shabbos. Tzaras.

sh'vua - The Torah says two types. Will do something and won't do something.   It includes another two types in the past tense. Didn't do something did do something.

tumah - Torah says if someone forgets he's tamei and either eats kodshim or goes into bais hamikdosh, he's mechuyiv a korban. It includes two other cases. If he remembers he's tamei but doesn't realize it's kodshim/beis hamikdosh.

shabbos - The Torah only says two types of yetzios, which is either holding it in reshus hayachid and passing it into reshus harabbim or sticking your hands into reshus hayachid and bringing it to reshus harabbim. It includes two types of hachnosos also. Either passing from reshus harabbim into yachid or bringing in from rabbim to yachid.

tzaras - Torah only says se'ais and baheres. This includes sapachas which is a different color for each one respectively.

Is that good enough?
So can we get to the point. "Why" did u go off?

Re: Hairgate
The fight over this is ridiculous. But I totally believe the specific issue is worth 'nipping in the bud'. Otherwise we start to think these things are normal. And good even. Obviously there are those who think this whole hair length rule is a great thing. I'm not speaking for those people. Just the people who believe it's davka not.
It's not your business! It's the business of the parents.

Re: How much should a nice esrog cost this year?
I stopped buying an esrog, same reason I dont use a chicken for kaparos, became a price gouging business with fighting, exploitation and what not
You won't send your kids to Jewish school because well the schools are animals. Your don't but esrog because price gouging. I'm assuming you don't buy a seat on the high holidays? Don't eat at kosher establishments because the hechsharim and ripping the restaurant off? I'm sure this list goes on

Re: Yom Kippur Davening
If you read the tefillah fast in Hebrew, you are killing yourself! Why do we say X, who wrote y, what's the meaning iof mesod chachamim Etc, why do some say pifiyiot?  What about the piyutim by yose Ben yose, yanai, Eleazar hakalir and a dozen more.

How can you rush through this?  4000 years of Judaism is screaming to be noticed.

Trust me, shuckeling and screaming will have not the smallest connection than if you were to understand what you were saying.

People who put a tablecloth for shabbos on the table in shul...then put the pen they just picked up from the table, right back on top of the tablecloth.
People who complain about the people who actually do things.

You know, I always feel that there is a certain line you don't cross when speaking about tzadikim regardless of what you think/were brought up thinking about them. I feel like that line is crossed too often on DDF. Maybe im just naive and need to get out there more, but I would be scared to comment like that or many similar comments in the past

Such unbridled chutzpah. It's unreal. Your relative just tried to murder men, women, and children. You don't get to be publicly outraged about anything.

I cannot even fathom what you have been and are currently going through. I hope one day you will recover completely and stay strong. I hope your family forgets this parsha entirely and it will feel like someone elseís story.

I wish you the same to you and your family.

Re: Random questions.
Is it customary to tip full service gas attendants in NJ (where there's no self service) when paying cash? I recall reading something to that effect a while back (I don't think on DDF). Recently I find myself filling up with cash more often, and I'm never sure if I should be tipping and how much I should be. Anybody have any ideas?
In the old days when the gas attendant clean your windshield and checked your oil. Nowadays where having a attendant is more of a burden than a luxury. I remember when I was a kid everyone tipped the attendant.

Re: Smoking Meats
the seer looks great. How many seconds of searing? 120 seems high to start seeing...

Also the chicken looks awesome
Med rare is 130-135 I seared for a couple min on a fresh chimney of coals (very hot not on pbc). This is the only pic I took of it after cutting it not a great angle but was med rare.

My first trip there - #1 membership card - No I have no room in my wallet or my keys and what's the point I'll give you my Phone # I can't cheat - Membership is free..
#2 I was expecting more doorbuster sales not just coffee and cherry  tomatoes..
#3 thanks for the warning of must buy 2 etc..
#4 put the spices in containers or at least a cover they are bound to get sneezed on and mixed up..
#5 yes most of the items are cheaper but some by only a couple of cents..herring is over a 1.00 cheaper compared to NPGS etc. But sorry It's a trip not sure it's worth it unless I do a very large shopping...
#6 the register froze on me had to reload somewhere else and bagging is bad - hard to separate and all on your own
#7 What's the guy at the exit checking it's all in bags he cannot see anything - make him a bagger!!
Love #7

Myrtle beach Vs. Hilton Head
Planning a road trip from NY down to somewhere nice and a bit warmer Mid march. I'm thinking Myrtle beach Vs. Hilton head. anyone with recent travel to these places that can give some feed back which one is better V.s which has more option of kosher food close by?
thank you so much this would be a 5-6 day trip.
Myrtle beach has a kosher restaurant (as of last year), and some kosher items at the local lion. Shul has minyanim daily.
