Re: Triangle k with grape juice concentrate ingredient
Is triangle k kosher on Minute Maid
I see grape juice from concentrate in the ingredients ?
Deals/deal requests? Shouldn't this be in GD or something? Maybe the halacha thread? Or kashrus thread?

Re: No Amex SBS this year!
The title of this thread is based on the same info of what we know this year... so?
Because when I saw the title, "no SBS this year", I thought it was definitive. really it shud read, no SBS last year. This year we're awaiting updates.

Shulem92's Honeymoon to Hawaii, L.A. and Chicago I'm gonna start this TR a little unconventional, but since its technically part of planning, I'll write it anyway, and you can skip it if you don't care for it, click HERE for the planning, or HERE for the actual TR.

B"H I got engaged mid March. Being that my wedding was scheduled for late June, it made sense to plan a honeymoon for the summer, late August. I wanted to try and use as many points as possible and not have to use cash, so it was time for an app-o-rama ;) I applied and got approved for:

Amex plat 100k
Amex PRG 50k
Southwest Plus 50k
Southwest Premier 50k
CSP 50k
Barclay's Arrival Plus 40k
Barclay's LH 50k

Did most of the spending in the first month. I (stupidly) swiped for 17k on the amex plat and got FR'd. In my haste to pay up the bill, I tried cashing a check into my chase checking account and the check bounced🙈. Cashed it again the next day and paid my bill. I survived the FR with only a credit slash. 2 weeks to my wedding and I'm thinking that my money issues are done, right? I mean what's better than surviving the dreaded FR? Nope it just wasn't meant to be. A day before my wedding I try quick paying a friend some money, and I get an odd response, "sorry, you do not have enough funds for this transaction". Hmmm. That's odd. I call chase, and they inform me that my account had been frozen due to " improper use of funds". Being that they never even informed me that my account was frozen, I had 2 payments to Barclay's come back returned. OK, big deal, I'll worry about it some other time, as I was getting married the next day. When my next statement was due I tried making a payment to Barclay's from my wife's savings account (as my money was still frozen by chase), and both Barclay's and TD reassured me that I can make a payment from a savings account. 3 days later, I realized that the payment returned again, because for some reason they weren't able to process a payment from a savings account. I quickly call up Barclay's, and they tell me that both my cards were shut down. After reviewing my account, because 4 payments returned, they established that I was a security risk. (I had opened 7 cards in 1 day, and maxed them all out to hit the spending threshold). Luckily I had already met the spending threshold for the bonus on the Miles & More, but my Arrival Plus points evaporated as soon as they shut down the card. No amount of HUCA was able to retrieve them.

So now I have:
55k LH
115k SW (companion)
170k MR
60k UR
30k UA

My MR were frozen for a bit, but that's a really long story, and I'm sure you're probably bored of this by now. I just needed to vent, sorry....

To be continued...

Re: Shulem92's Honeymoon to Hawaii, L.A. and Chicago Round 1 of booking....
I booked a roundtrip flight from EWR - LAX Aug 18 - 29 on Southwest for 23k with a free companion.
LAX - KOA United saver award 22.5k I had 30k united so I transferred 15k UR.
KOA - LAX I needed a specific flight Thursday afternoon, so I paid revenue 250$ (bought a cert and saved 70$) so total of $430 or $215 pp, not a bad deal.
Sheraton resort in Kona booked from 21-25 for a cash rate of 150$ a night. Deduct 50X2 from the amex offer, and a fellow ddf'er paid me to use his account 25$ a night, and that comes out to 400$
Found a friend to host me for shabbos Aug 26-27 in Los Angeles.

A mentch tracht un Gut lacht....

I bought a used copy of Hawaii: The Big Island Revealed on amazon for 3$. After reading the book, I came to the realization that I needed a newer version, as half the roads had been wiped out since 2005. My local library had the latest version in stock B"H, so I caught up on all the new maps/roads. I planned out my 4 days on the BI accounting for every minute....
But G-d had other plans.

By the time Tisha B'av rolled around, I still didn't have a place to stay in Los Angeles for Shabbos Aug 19-20, which was that week. Time for a change of plans. I didn't want to stick around for shabbos on the East Coast, because I wanted to just start my vacation already...

I called my grandparents who live in Chicago, and asked if I would be able to come for Shabbos. As soon as they agreed, I booked myself a ticket on Southwest EWR - MDW at 6 pm Thursday Aug 18, for 11k points and $11. The second leg wasn't showing any availability till Monday the 22, so I had to change my plans for Hawaii :( I called united and asked how much it would be to change my flight from the 21st to the 23rd, and the rep tells me its $100 per passenger. Now I thought it was $75, so I asked to speak to a manager. She puts me in hold for like 5 minutes, and eventually gets back on, "there seems to be a shortage of managers today, it's your lucky day, I'll do it for free" :)
So now I had my tickets to Hawaii on the 23rd, it was cutting my time in Hawaii by almost half, but I didn't have much choice.
Luckily, I booked the Sheraton through a friend's platinum account, and was able to change the reservation, and cancel the extra 2 days. Afterwards availability opened on Southwest for Sunday afternoon to MDW - LAX, but I had already switched all my reservations. Bummer!😥

After I had all my flights worked out, I now needed to find hotels in Los Angeles for the 21-23 and 27-29. The Andaz had availability at $230 a night and c&p for the second night which was $125 + 10k points. So I booked that. I also bought $300 worth of certs off a fellow ddf'er, saving myself $70.
For the next week I booked myself 2 nights at the Le Meridien Delfina at Santa Monica Pier at a C&P rate of 6k points and $110 each night. Cash price was $420 a night, so it was a pretty good redemption.

Total airfare:
11k SW +$11 EWR-MDW
20k SW +$11 MDW-LAX
11k SW +$11 LAX-EWR
45k UA +$11 LAX-KOA
$500-15% UA cert = $425 KOA-LAX

Total hotel costs:
10k Hyatt + 125$ Andaz W Hollywood
$300-25% Hyatt cert = $225 Andaz W Hollywood
$350 -50(amex offer) Sheraton Kona 2 nights
12k SPG + $220 Le Meridien Santa Monica 2 nights.

That concludes the planning stages of my honeymoon flights/hotels. The only other thing that really had to be planned in advance, was my reservation at Tierra Sur. 😊

Actual trip report coming soon...
