is it safe to park there?
I need to park for 16 days
I have a 12 passenger van
Your more then invited to park in front of my house (five towns) ten minutes from the airport and there's no asp by us (I would offer to drop you off by the airport but at this time of year I don't think the timing would work

Re: All Halocha Shailos and teiffa Questions
PSA more than a question, but on the SFO-TLV flight davening creeps up on you pretty fast. departure time is about 915, by the time meal service is over and they shut the lights it's pretty close to 12am origin time, and the time to daven starts at 2am or so, and zman krias shema isn't that long after. you don't have this on the direct TLV-LAX flights, because they leave at 1 pm, and the ast coast is a whole different story.
in addition shkiah hits when you're somewhere over Europe, or just when people are waking up. My guess is that many people are unaware.
All this is compounded greatly by the fact that on the dreamliner you can't look out the window easily, which is really cool, it is automatically darkened when they want you to sleep, but if you go to the galley or wherever it's bright daylight.

Re: Shidduch Thread
Always wondered this, maybe one of you can clarify.

Why are pictures of newly engaged lubavitch couples always in or near a cemetery?
The chabad minhag always was to notify the Rebbe before "making it official" and wait for the rebbes brochoh nowadays they go to the rebbes ohel and ask the Rebbe for a brochoh and right when they come out "it's official" and that's when the cameras come out and coinsidently it happens to be in the cemetery

Re: Yanovor Esrogim I just paid $550 in ch for 3 yanover and one kfar chabad including lulavim hadasim and arovos. that's about $165 for each yanover and about $55 for the kfar chabad. obviously they weren't nearly as nice as other years but neither was the kfar chabad selection.

Re: Business Credit Card Advice Needed

Thanks for your response. That's actually one of my concerns that my financials will not show anything significant being in starter mode. (though, my personal credit is good and clean).

Btw, when you say 'charge card', is this a regular credit card or a different type of card? Usually with annual fees?

They will base your business credit card application off your personal credit, charge card is a term amex uses for their cards that don't have an official credit limit rather you can build up and spend more based on how much they trust you. They all have annual fees some more then others depending on the benefits you get with each card.
An important point about the charge cards is that they need to be paid in full by the due date and can't carry a balance like a regular credit card

Re: IKEA - Billy Bookshelf only $49 this Wed 11/8 only

So they e-mailed the promotion but when you click the link (maybe since it's not 11/8 yet) it just goes to regularly priced page

And, you're right, I've seen people with more than 5 Billies in their house (we have one and the rest of our wall space is taken up with Craig's List finds).

Did you buy 5 online w/ free shipping and still have to pay $40 for "picking"?

Thanks I guess on Wednesday I'll call them to get it matched or worst case just go to the store,
I did not have to pay the $40 'picking fee'

Re: IKEA - Billy Bookshelf only $49 this Wed 11/8 only
Just a reminder on this today - today only - it's the regular link but once you put it in your cart it shows the $30 discount.
Thanks for the deal, went to the store in Redhook (Brooklyn) and picked up 6 pieces (obviously separate orders)

Re: IKEA - Billy Bookshelf only $49 this Wed 11/8 only
Thanks for the update! So what wound up happening? Did you just go for the discounted price and shlep it yourself or did you work out shipping with them? Ludmila and I were wondering.
I called the customer service this morning and after being transferred 3 times and 45 minutes later I just hung up and decided I'll go to the store and call later to cancel my online order

End of December. But I had to work hard to get that rate. I also talked down the waiver to 360 I think
My sister got the rogue in April and is paying 218. Don't have to work hard for that at all. She got it at skyline.

Re: 0% APR card comparisions
If I were someone else on DDF Iíd scream and yell at you about how youíre taking advantage of other people who could just apply for the 0% APR cards themselves..
If you know me you'd know that quite the opposite. I try my hardest not to charge money. You can ask others on ddf that I actually coach people to do this on their own (and give free advice)
in my experience people tend to mess up really badly putting in the applications and that's why I am willing to do it for them and therefore have to charge a fee for my time.
Another point is allot of people with a decent amount of debt won't be able to get a lot of zero apr cards with the outstanding debt which is another thing we need to get rid of before applying...

So no I'm not doing this to make money rather I do it as a favor. But if it will take me time to sit with them and put through the apps or put it through for them I'm forced to charge for my time.

And a side note I don't charge anywhere near 5 percent.

Re: PSA: Don't swipe recklessly for others
How so? The activity at issue probably violated the terms of the card and I take for granted that upon a thorough investigation Amex and any other card issuer would probably close their accounts (and any points therein would probably be forfeited), but that seems like a small price to pay for removing thousands of dollars in unauthorized charges.
But if they were authorized why would Amex take the hit

Re: Master Thread of Discussion on Marriott / SPG Merger
I canceled my business card shortly after they switched and the rep seemed to not grasp why I was canceling. I canceled my personal card last week and they completely understood and had a whole line of BS they were reading from a script that had clearly been designed to counter those of us canceling because of the devaluation. Unfortunately insulting your customer's intelligence by telling them that they're really better off getting 2/3 of what they were getting before isn't a great way to do business, not sure why incentive programs all seem to think it is, so I'm done with them if/until they come to their senses. Hopefully the fact they have a custom script for it now shows that we're hurting them enough for them to pay attention. That had to be a cash cow for AMEX that will largely go away as everyone cuts spending if not canceling their card altogether.
That's pretty much what I told them. I was supposed to send a follow-up email which I'm still working on to see how they formally respond to this point (assuming I'll get a response after our lovely few hours we spent together)

Re: Internet Filters
Creator of Truple here.  99% of the time the app is literally doing nothing.  It does a small amount of processing whenever a screenshot is taken, but that's it.

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask.

Disclaimer: I am very affiliated with Truple, and very bias... :D
I recently moved over to truple and it is exactly what I need. Doesn't slow down my phone at all and doesn't get in the way at all!

Thanks for a great app

Re: Do you have Coronavirus? Were you tested?
Is slight chest pain normal? Not stabbing pains- more like bruising.
I've been short of breath going on 4 days now, so wondering if that could be normal since I'm taking a lot of deep and measured breaths.
Don't want to head out unless I absolutely have to (have to= ER needed).
You should have someone check your oxygen level if possible to make sure you're getting enough oxygen in.

Response: No one with upper respiratory symptoms is allowed inside. You can visit our tent tomorrow to get tested.

Me: I don't care about the d*mn test. Just want my oxegyn level checked.

Them: I'm sorry. We can't do that. You can get tested though.

Anyone else heard the rumor that benabou is turning empire grill into a fishenchips and house of glatt into a sandwich shop?
My sources say that HOG will be a butcher shop with a simcha hall on top. But as with his other places he can either change his mind or do nothing with any of these locations.

A family just got up from shiva, and are now unexpectedly all together for Pesach. CH didn't work logistically (BH large family), so they rented a big house about an hour away. I didn't ask the exact cheshbon, but this was the request and I figured I'd reach out here to see if anyone can help facilitate.
I reached out directly to the family to see if we can arrange something:)

Re: Waze or GPS only device
Its true with some of them the OS can support apps, but to call them smartphones is simply not true from two angles.
First the technical aspect - they do not have the capability to run apps like a smartphone. (there are two 'dangers' of technology 1: doing the wrong thing 2: doing the right thing. there are many people who dont have smartphones purely because (the gedolim say so, and) because of the distraction and all the rest of it. A flip phone can never reach that level of distraction/dependency etc. it simply isnt able.)
Second - the hashkafa aspect. Its hard to put in words for those who dont live in the flip-phone circles, but there is a very real difference between having a smartphone with a filter and having a flip phone with a filter
[Im sure you understand]  I dont know about iphones, but i have seen it done on androids and the level of kashrus was.... lacking. And yes it was done smartly with all of the aspects thought to be taken care of, but there are always loopholes.

I am not trying to give a shmuz, i just felt the need to raise awareness that this is really not a good idea. Its possible iphones are different
I think you're very right.
As of right now I have a smartphone with a filter so it's not the filth I'm trying to get rid of.
I'm trying to get off of smartphones altogether. I feel like I don't need it and my life will be so much richer without it. On the other hand I still do need for my car basics like a proper gps music and a few other apps.
So I was thinking of using my old galaxy as this phone and leaving it in my car (while praying it doesn't get stolen) and have the Alcatel go flip 3 as my main phone. It still technically has a browser WhatsApp youtube Gmail... It's just not very convenient to use them.

Re: Waze or GPS only device
i did it similar to what ou are discussing and keep my smartphone in the office other than when I specifically need it. it is one of the best moves I ever made.
So you in the office now? :)

Re: Waze or GPS only device
I take it you're using T-Mobile that you went with the flip 3?

 Very impressive. Big move.
I know the title is waze or GPS, but which ever you're using is definitely taking you in the right direction..  ;)

And at work if you need you use a computer. Vs carrying a smartphone all day in your pocket.
Haha thanks and yes I'm on t-mobile

Re: Waze or GPS only device
Why will you want to call or text from the phone  that is only in the car? What happens when someone returns your call or text? I don't even know the phone number of my smartphone.
I need the calling for Hatzolah. I need to be able to (through their app) be in touch with patients and other members. Otherwise I would just use my dumb phone for all calls.
