Re: List of all speed and red light cameras in brooklyn
אך דעו נא רבותי כי רבים הם ואי אפשר לפורטן.

This will end up backfiring on the city. People will actually slow down knowing that the cameras are all over, and they will eventually lose this goose that lays golden eggs.
That's when they start lowering speed limits to 15mph, and ticket at 25mph. We have this on one (school) block near me already. It's on a main road and has been that way for months.  Coming soon to a street near you.

Re: Food/Recipe Thread Moroccan, as mentioned above, is an excellent choice.  Or Indian.  Both very flavorful.

What are you supposed to do when you are trying to lower your post count because you are being careful about your post-to-like ratio?
Have your PR team assess each potential comment for its likeability before posting.

If I'm driving 0-2 kids=2018 TM3
If I'm driving 3+ kids=2014 Ody
Yup, no contest there.
I can't imagine any car is so amazing that I'd be willing to rearrange the car seat configuration based on who is going in the car.

Re: Is Covid Spiking in Boro Park?
Masks are disruptive to davening from my experience. If it is impacting someone’s ability to daven with kavana, that is not childish. If you want to dismiss or deny that is your prerogative.
On the flip side, the thought of non-mask wearers spreading disease is disruptive to other people's davening.  It not being your experience is irrelevant.

Re: How much milk do you have in your fridge?
My milk buying guide:

Red = Milk
Blue = Diluted milk
Green = Diluted water
We go by this:

Red: good for rich treats like coffee, homemade ice cream, and chocolate pudding
Blue: no purpose, mix red+green if you must
Green: best for drinking; thinnest consistency, so gets quite cold

It was tough convincing anyone here to use the endless blue milk even in cereal.  I have a young son that does NOT like water. "Milk or water" is 100% of the time answered with "milk," which usually means green around here.  Then again, over the summer he drank blue, and if we have red but are low on green, he'll get straight red.  I don't understand what purpose the "hating" on green serves.

Any good recipes?
Custard is complicated and not possible spur of the moment.  For simple vanilla ice cream: whisk a cup of whole milk with 2/3 cup sugar (adjust to your taste), with a pinch of salt if you'd like.  Add 2 cups heavy cream and 2-3 teaspoons vanilla.  Whisk, chill for an hour in fridge, then pour into ice cream maker for 15-20 minutes.  Best flavor addition: add a few (3?) tablespoons of seriously strong coffee (not instant, unless you actually like that flavor), use 3/4 cup sugar instead of 2/3.  Try making a milkshake out of that. Best coffee drink ever.

Re: How much milk do you have in your fridge?
Does hate ever serves a purpose? When you open the fridge and all the milk is gone, but there's a green bottle of fake milk, it gets you annoyed. Happens 100 more times and you start to develop a venomous anger towards all things green.
If you have heavy cream, add some to the green milk?

Poppy. By a long shot.

Re: Life Hacks, Post Your Favorites! Save the plastic lids that come with Pringles and the like to reuse for:
  • covering cans of food that are not finished
  • a "plate" on which to put away half an onion/tomato
  • a cover for cups in the Sukkah

Re: Life Hacks, Post Your Favorites! For a house phone, if you want your number at the top so your kids can find it easily, put a space before your name.  So, for example, the first three listings on our phone are:

" Hatzolah"
" Mommy"
" Totty"

I also have Hatzolah listed last, so if someone presses up instead of down in an emergency, Hatzolah will still come up first.  I do this by having an open parenthesis first:  "(Hatzolah"

Re: What Do You Do For Kosher Food While Traveling?
Was not sure where to ask this so I will try here. Can the 48 Polar Bear cooler be carried on for a domestic (WN) flight? Is dry ice allowed in a carry on?

The problem with taking frozen food (I do it all the time, but with ice packs) is that it almost always gets pulled to be hand-checked.  I was told it's because it's dense.

Re: Oahu, HI Master Thread
I actually really like Oahu; there's tons to do. Get/borrow the Oahu Revealed book/app to see what interests you.  I've spent probably a couple weeks on Oahu, and could easily find another week's worth of stuff  to do, but I'm weird like that.

Lappert's is milchig, doesn't have real food, and Oahu Kosher is pretty much all fleishig.  Oahu Kosher needs to be delivered.  Also: traffic is a real thing on Oahu.  Airport to Waikiki when you are arriving is no joke, unless COVID-19 changes that.

Re: Oahu, HI Master Thread
i dont doubt there's lots to do, but since traveling from TBI we're really only looking for must do activities as opposed to spending a few days touring. it's why i assumed pearl harbor, as most other items i read about in TR seem similar to whats available on TBI.

how long do u think i need at pearl harbor/uss arizona?

planned on getting food for trip home and delivered by uber to airport.

when originally looked into PCC and Dole it didn't seem worthwhile, but with your recommendation i will revisit.
I've spent lots of time on the BI, and think that covers most things to do in Hawaii, but Oahu is different.  It's like Hawaii on steroids.  Hence, check out Oahu Revealed.  I've been to Pearl Harbor twice.  How long you spend depends on what you want to see/do.  Once we did the basics and were out in 2-3 hours, the other time we did almost everything.  If you do choose to do everything, you can spend an entire day there (7 hours).

A lot of the shows at the PCC are extremely untzniusdik, but there is some interesting cultural stuff.

Re: Life Hacks, Post Your Favorites!
Before you go online, create a bot that automatically searches your web screen for "woman" and replaces it with "man". Then you will be able to read stuff again.
Or replace "man" with "woman" and you will just have to stay offline.

Re: Which US national parks have you been to? Which was your favorite?
For those that watch Kara and Nate, they were reported and fined for filming commercially in national parks. :( I was looking forward to their national park travels.
Win for them: "A federal judge has struck down as unconstitutional the National Park Service's practice of charging commercial filmmakers who want to shoot in the National Park System, ruling it is a protected activity under the First Amendment."

Re: The only one worth buying
Is there any packaged Chummos that doesn't taste too commercial?
Like for guac, homemade is the way to go.
I really like the Hope brand.  They have many flavors and premix them, which I like; it annoys me how Sabra does it.  I especially like Hope's Thai coconut curry chummus, but I am far from a chummus connoisseur.

Re: Please help find a niftar's parents Jewish names.
I don't know, but I'm guessing that since neither Jay nor his wife knew his parents' Hebrew names, that he probably didn't tell them to his son.  And I'm guessing that the OP would have asked Jay about a kesuba last week when he asked for his own Hebrew name.
We don't know what frame of mind he was in when he was dying.  Just because he didn't know then doesn't mean he never knew.
