That would be my wife's. Woke up to make her waffles for her 30th bday today and have been at the computer all morning instead.
Birthday error fares strike again. (Free LAS vacation during my surprise bday party, 4 mile island during Rafi's bday party, this today, I think there was at least one more I'm forgetting.)
Can we get a list of birthdays please? I'll set a reminder to watch dd the entire day!!

Re: Greece Master Thread
Can anyone recommend a good way of doing this trip? My wife and I want to take 2 weeks in the summer to go to Israel, but she really wants to do a stop over for maybe 5-7 days in Greece. What would be the best way to book the flights? Would prob want to do 2 different stops in Greece (also looking for recommendations which 2 places in greece to stay)

If anyone has already done this trip, a small TR would be amazing!

I would also be interested in 5 day trip information from Israel.  Thinking about it for this summer.

I went to crete for 5 days. I settled on crete as opposed to the many other islands mainly because of points hotel availability & ease of getting there.

Flights - I was first checking the standard Priceline kayakÖ the options werenít great price wise & scheduling. I was then directed to 3 Israeli deal sites bo nauf (בא נעוף), hulyo (חוליו) & daka90. Bo nauf does not have a website they have an app. Every wed morn at 9am Israel time (iirc) they release deals which are available for 24 hours. Hulyo is an app as well as a website & pretty much every day they release new deals. Daka90 is like an Israeli Priceline - app & website. I ended up calling daka90 & booking over the phone with them & I was very happy with their cs. All these sites mentioned show flights which you wonít find on the standard Kayak Priceline etc. If you have more questions about this pm me Iíll be happy to share more details.

https://thepointsguy.com/news/not-el-al-the-smaller-israeli-airlines-that-will-get-you-there-for-cheap/
Just saw this, some more options to look into, although they donít mention the deal sites I used which also have small Greek airlines that I couldnít even find websites for.

Hotels - I looked at all the points hotel options on the different islands, Hyatt & Hilton both donít have, SPG has a bunch of random & Marriott has 2 in crete. After going through the options, Domes of elounda seemed like our best choice for a few reasons. Flying direct into crete as opposed to other islands seemed the easiest & with a baby that was a priority, standard rooms were pricing at Ä850 & we would be paying just 45k Marriott for 4 nights & 5th night free. The standard rooms are suites with a balcony & private jacuzzi & we were hoping for an upgrade which we got to a room with a private pool as well (in my request for an upgrade to a room with a pool, I asked that I be given one high up so that it is completely private & nobody can see in - bĒh they pulled through). If youíre going without kids it might be worth looking into domes noruz Chania which is an all adult hotel. Do a drop of research into domes of elounda & youíll see all the great things about the hotel, pools, on the beach, all suitesÖ

Iíll get another post out soon about what we did & try to add some pics as well.

Whatís a new (past 3 years) Restaurant dairy or meat near Herbert Samuel Jerusalem with a good hasgacha

Piccolino - dairy, didnít love it.
Tommyís - meat, great food, street food - burgers & that type of stuff. Itís right in the beginning of rehavia.
Harveyís - meat, took over Gabrielleís, hechsher is mehuderet & Bet Yosef iinm.
If youíre willing to get in a cab Roza - meat, on emek refaim is fairly new & was great.
If youíre willing to go the shuk thereís a few options there as well.

What is the best Food in Jerusalem?
(Good Hashgachot Only)

Top 3 Dairy in Jerusalem?

Top 3 Meat in Jerusalem?

This is tough. Iíll answer based on my experiences.

Dairy -
Rimon, Lucianna & greggs, in no specific order. חבה in the shuk is great Iíve eaten from their full menu once otherwise got their breakfast menu, but def goes into top 3 just not sure which of those 3 classics Iíd take out. Iíve heard great things about ahavat hayam but Iíve never been there. Random mentions - happy fish in mamilla is now rabbanut mehadrin iinm, fresh in mamilla & tahana rishona are pretty good & pizza fiore in tahana rishona was also good. Hasandak in the shuk good basics at decent prices.

Meat -
Lehem basar - great food but Iíve gotten bored of their menu.
Red heifer - great food but expensive. Was very happy both times I was there this year.
Skyline would be everybody elseís pick in top 3 but Iíve had bad experiences there so itís out for me & instead Iíd say roza.
Random mentions - grill bar of course. Tommyís. Hatch in the shuk craft beer & sausages - loved it.

Re: If You Could Ask El Al Management One Question... Their checkin - I donít remember it being so terrible coming from NYC (prob because Iím always late), but checkin at tlv for their midnight flights is horrendous. They have everybody from both flights waiting together on the same line & every single time Iíve come 2 hours or more b4 my flight Iíve had to wait forever on that line, by the time I finish checkin boarding is usually about to start. Every single time Iíve flown from tlv itís been like this besides for when I show up late for checkin, then itís a breeze.

Re: Things To Do In Israel Master Thread
First I'm learning about Caliber 3. Appreciate your opinion above.  Have others here done their "Ultimate Shooting Adventure" or other activities and wish to share opinions?

I drove there without an issue & so did many other people I know. As long as youíre aware of your surroundings & make sure your Waze is set not to go into area a or b you should be fine.

I found caliber 3 to be very underwhelming for its price & from what I had heard about it. With kids itís probably exciting but for adults I found it to be a bit boring & maybe childish in a way. Was something I felt was stereotypical Israel bar mitzva trip activity. I didnít do Krav Maga, just some shooting program which was over $100 pp. Lots of propaganda. If you wanna shoot a gun, go find a shooting range.

Hey Dan, I also was able to find that code NEXTTIME works for 50% off. One time use per account, though. I used it and my 6 day rental in a Q5 is now billed at around $230. Pretty good deal.

Also, apparently Audi owners get the following: ďEnter promo code MYAUDI1 - 1 free day on reservations of 2+ days. Enter promo code MYAUDI2 - 2 free days on reservations of 4+ daysĒ

But supposedly works for all users, but I haven't been able to verify.

Re: Free Amazon shipping to Israel
Does any one know at what point Amazon considers a shipment to Israel late? (that theres a point in contacting them)

I ordered four items on Dec 22 and was given an estimated delivery date of jan 10 - 17 . Amazon split it into three shipments.
 1) A book and a sewing machine part shipped straight away with Israel Post and arrived Dec 29, (the courier called me when he got to my house and i went out to get the package).
2) An Anne Klein watch (thanks Dan!) shipped Dec 26 with DHL, only got to Israel on Jan 8, and tracking has gone dark from then.
3) A Contigo bottle. Only shipped on Jan 9 with I-Parcel, now shows estimated delivery of Jan 28.

Does Amazon give compensation for delayed shipments to Israel?
What do they give?

Iíd wait until after the last day you were supposed to receive. I had a big order that was split & when one item shipped, it said estimated delivery about a week later than the last day I was supposed to receive it. I ended up getting it a week & a half earlier than the later dateÖ

Re: Couples Stuck in USA - Rent on Israeli Apartments
There's a huge attitute problem amongst the young couples in Israel.

Most them are young kids, freshly married spoiled brats from well to do homes.

Israel to them is a "Camp". They sign $2,000-$3,000 leases while having 0 income (daddy pays).

They don't understand what a utility bill is, they can't wrap their immature heads around the concepts of Vaad Baayit or Arnona.

They treat it like a game. Which landlord can they screw next. I started vetting more and more but noticed that even the uber-rich don't care.

To them it's not an apartment, it's a honeymoon suite. Well if I can play games with Hotels I'm entitles to same here too, no?

There is a yid whose name is well know in the world, a level wealth on the richlist, probably the wealthiest chareidi family on earth (not American. Way wealthier than Scheiner Rechnitz etc).

His grandkids take apartments in Jerusalem by flashing the brand name. Tachlis, the rents do not get paid and you can't talk to any Dayan because no-one can go against these guys.

I think this might belong in the wedding thread, but sending off kids to Israel needs to way regulated past Corona.

/end rant

Itís clear youíre going through a tough situation but stereotyping & ranting like that wonít get you anywhere. Iíve lived in israel for five years already & none of what you said is true about me or many others I know. People like this exist wherever they live so instead of deciding itís an israel problem realize that itís the ppl youíre dealing with & like somebody else replied maybe deal with a different clientele.

I came back to America before they closed the border & now Iím stuck hereÖ am I a spoiled selfish brat for discussing with my landlord & speaking to a rav if necessary about my chiyuv at this pointÖ no I donít plan on walking away & telling my landlord screw you but itís gonna be tough for me to pay months of rent now without being able to be thereÖ

Re: Miscarriages due to COVID-19
I was told by one Lakewood OB that approximately 20% of babies he delivered while the mother was COVID positive have returned to the NICU within the week for respiratory issues

If issues with newborns were as prevalent as you make it sound there would be a lot more reporting than over 3 months into the virus some random poster on an anonymous forum with a quote from an unnamed OB. Relax with the hysteria, it doesnít help anybody.

Re: SBA PPP and EIDL Small Business Loans (some money is forgivable)
Perhaps this answers the question?
For me it raises some more... What if I had no income in the weeks leading up to PPP so I can legitimately certify the above, but in those 8 weeks business picks up? Does the fact that I lost a few weeks of income and need the cash infusion to keep going cover me? Or the fact that I'm earning in those 8 weeks make me ineligible even though I have a payroll gap (and what I earn in those 8 weeks would cover missed payroll and the PPP would cover the actual payroll of those 8 weeks)?

My thoughts exactly... I don't want to do the wrong thing and take PPP if I'm not entitled to it due to a new salaried job, but I did miss many weeks and "double-dipping" during the 8 weeks is really just covering for missed weeks prior.

How about now youíre okay because you have some saving but the near future is very uncertain as business is non - existent now?

Re: Will there be Sleep Away Camp this summer?
What happened to the narrative that ďkids canít get COVIDĒ? Were these really older ďchildrenĒ (I.e. teenagers)? Was it a massive camp with many thousands of children (so 82 is a very small number)? Does ď82 campers and staffĒ really mean 81 staff and one camper?

This is not only directed at you as Iíve been seeing this tons from many others as well & maybe it belongs in a more general thread but -

Why does everything somebody says become a narrative?? The world at large has become so polarized, & once you have an opinion you need to stay with it 1000 percent, & must agree with all the opinions of that same side, can we at least try to keep things somewhat normal here so that somebody could say an opinion without it being a narrative?? Iíve had many things Iíve wanted to say about corona both ways but Iíve kept my mouth shut because itís not worth getting into an argument over every word you said & what they decided you may have meant or didnít mean or meant yesterday or said the week before. Everybodyís gotta take it easy.

Re: Will there be Sleep Away Camp this summer?
Some things can be said without a narrative. Some things are said as a narrative. When narratives are shown to be demonstrably false, they are called out. Such is the nature of things.

As I said so itís all based off the way you feel they meant what they saidÖ maybe youíre the one with the narrative? Narrative regardless which way it goes is problematic cuz u gotta stick to your narrative.

Re: Will there be Sleep Away Camp this summer?
I will take every opportunity I find to drive home the point that every precaution taken is worthwhile and nobody should be mocked for being smart and proactive. You can call it a narrative if youíd like, just as in the past youíve accused me of spreading false hysteria for publicizing a DP I heard directly from a doctor.

Nobody is encouraging anybody to live in fear. But I think some of the recklessness preached here needs to be called out each and every time.

I very clearly didnít accuse you of having a narrative in my first post but as soon as there was a drop of dialogue you resorted to basically telling me to shut up.

Itís beautiful that you care so much to make sure that everybody should be careful but donít lower yourself to this bickering tone every other post.

Re: {ALIVE AGAIN} Baby Present for Dan: (DAN/JJ DO NOT READ THIS THREAD) I think we should be getting what this was all along a baby giftÖ

If ppl are wondering why thereís less ppl involved this time around, my guess would be because DDF is a lot less of a family than it used to be. Could be Iím wrong but the feeling I get is that it used to be a lot more homey & Dan was a lot more personally  involved obviously the bigger it grows the less it retains that feelingÖ

Re: Deblasio Shutting 9 ZIP Codes Again
Because of summer camps? Schools reopening before anyone else? Yom tov?
The same thing would have happened in any other community.. IMHO has nothing to do with masks.. (IOW masks wouldn't of helped in those situations)

Add weddings. The reasons mentioned & large families. & the amount of interaction between neighbors friends relatives even on a daily basis not because of weddings or anything else special, really changes the equation.

Unfortunately nobody in the outside world will understand this

Re: Will Moshiach come faster if this entire Covid topic is locked and deleted?
I agree 100%. I used to enjoy DDF until it became a Rabbi bashing and then a ppl bashing forum. I left then and check back once in a while. Sadly, little has changed.
Sinas Chinam may be the real pandemic we are experiencing.
I'll leave off with 1 thought I recently heard: "Social distance if you want, but don't cause others to be socially distanced."

+1 Waiting for the day DDF returns to being a deal/points forum. I miss it.
