Re: Attitudes towards body odors in various cultures (aka is deodorant permissible)
So if some blogger would write that their elal flight smelled like a mix of salty fish and mikva chlorine and he found out to be disgusting but maybe it is just a cultural thing you would be okay with that?
Everything depends how it's written. I think if you read my original post it's clear that it was not meant in a negative way, rather than some other posts

Re: Long coat/parka?
So we have a coat that doesn't fit the specs, one that doesn't exist anymore (or at least not for a few months), and a generic one I can get locally that I didn't want to replace.

Thanks for the effort, folks - if anyone else gets lucky, lmk?
Not exactly shocking that it's hard to find a good coat in April.....try Australia

Re: Prison
So you care about abortions killing the unborn but a drug dealer like her peddling death to our kids is OK?
I think the reason people support the pardon is because they feel she did teshuva, was punished sufficiently, and is no longer a risk. Not that peddling drugs is ok.

Re: building a sukkah shlock
I'm considering placing my schach support beams on an angle and just letting the shlock roll up and down the stairs. It would seem to give a tarp shlock considerably more support and avoid sagging. Has anyone ever tried this? Also, if I place the schach mats on a slope and put several layers of schach, shouldn't that keep all but the strongest rains out? Presumably the rain will just roll down the schach.... thoughts?
Make sure the schach is tied down so it doesn't slide down

Re: US Politics/2016 Election Pick Your Poison Master Thread I don't usually agree with cm in this thread, but why is it difficult to accept that it was a big loss for R's/Trump? How many Obama lost is irrelevant. True it could have been worse, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a big loss. Also true was that the senate map favored R's this time. Again, the amount of seats lost under Obama is irrelevant.

That's how deals work. You give something you don't want to give to get something you want.

What is trump offering now?

It really was a good deal for trump, because DACA is very popular and he could've taken credit for saving it.

Once Pelosi takes over he'll never get the wall.
Daca is very popular with who?

Yes, some do not follow through. Historically taxes have gone down under Republican administrations. See Reagan, Trump, etc.
But they don't cut spending much if at all.

Re: up to 6 free hagaddahs from pj library-must be signed up
PJ Library subscribers will receive one in the mail, but you can order UP TO 6 copies.

Your child can start receiving books at six months old, and can continue receiving them every month for many years. Each community determines how long they will run PJ Library, but most go to age 8. To find out how many years your child can receive books, visit your community page.
Based on the books they send out, I personally wouldn't be interested in their Haggadah

Re: Re: PSA: Don't swipe recklessly for others
Please remove @Denverite's post. Many of the points there are off mark and it will probably be quoted in an article that will be published soon, IMHO.
calling out an entire group of people most of whom are legitimately doing nothing wrong, is disgusting. Call out the thieves, don't blame the community. Yes, most people here are opportunists, not shady characters and no one here believes in stealing from non Jews, our coffee of law clearly prohibits that. Look up shulchan aruch. Stop spreading hate and giving legitimacy to mein kampf or protocols of the elders of Zion. Everyone here knows you're lying, but a non Jews reading this forum might say "hey, maybe it's true..." So basically you are trying to hate on hareidi Jews and pretending that there is even a single one who allowed stealing- totally against halacha!!!
I doubt denverite meant anything malicious. But it would not surprise me if people (even other frum Jews) view many in the yeshivish/chasidish communities as not caring about secular law. Warranted or not, that's the stereotype.

Re: Private Shechita - what should I order?
Here is a wonderful Yid who cares about Halacha so much He will either go without meat or uses a private Shochet . So the obvious question is , tell us more ? What about Beis Yosef ? Melicha standards ? Bedikos ? Etc
But instead he goes off the rails and starts hiding behind Chabad !
Oh I am sorry , I mistakenly thought You were a God Fearing Yid who did his own research. Turns out itís all about being very CHABAD.
What a let down

March 06, 2019, 07:38:55 PM
Re: Private Shechita - what should I order?

No. It has to do with who the Shochet is.

Does he have to know he's lubavich, or just be lubavich? Because then, even CBC could do it.

You can settle with collection agency. But NEVER give them money without written guarantee that they will remove it from you report as though it had never been there. Don't listen if they say they'll write it off as paid or settled

Re: Over The Top Purim Parties I don't understand why everyone else has to tell people whether to indulge or not. However terrible it might be, it's their own business and they should be working on themselves and their taavos, just like we should all be working on ourselves and not others.
March 24, 2019, 11:17:14 PM
Re: Over The Top Purim Parties
Good point. But the article was not about wealthy people living lavishly. I bet you never read the letter, or have comprehension issues.
For example, it said this:
At a different Shul party, Hatzolah had to be there so many times it is not possible to count. One kid after the next was carried out, as children of all ages managed to get toasted on all types of hard liquor.
I read the article, and I don't think I have comprehension issues, thanks for your concern. The article gave a clear negative connotation towards the wealthy party makers for making parties and towards Rabbonim for not banning, not towards the drunken kids. It was as though the gvirim and rabbonim were at fault for irresponsible teenagers, which I think pretty much everyone on this thread doesn't agree with. i think these points have been made enough times on this thread, so I wish you luck with your campaign.

Re: Re: The Funny/strange/interesting/random Tweets Thread
Agreed that the Arabs severly screwed up their cause by choosing violence and ignoring reality, (though thatís the same thing the Zionists did 1903-1948)

The Palestinians are not serious about peace because any agreement means they lost and they
Canít do it. Secular or Religious. The most nationalist Arab MK today is an atheist, and both Arafat and Abu Mazen are not examples of religious fanaticism at all. Arafat saw what happened to Rabin and freaked out. The lesson of the Middle East is that whoever gives up a sliver of land gets shot or unthrowned, Arab or Israeli (Abdullah, Sadat, Rabin, Kadima etc)

Um, Iím a religious believer Chareidi. Fighting old wars are my thing. Why donít you face reality and become non observant because thatís what 90% of world Jewry is like? Of course we still believe in our beliefs, whether reality today is kind to us or not!
Big difference between giving up beliefs and being pragmatic. Would just like to mention that Arafat wasn't just trying not to get killed. The pa leadership gains from being in their current situation. As long as they can keep everyone riled up, the money pours in, and they don't have to be responsible and actually govern.
