This is not something that I want to discuss with my LOR.
Meaning because you already made up your mind or your uncomfortable? I don't see any reason why this should be an uncomfortable question to ask

Re: Random Posts Did anybody see this post on Reddit?

https://www.reddit.com/r/TwoXChromosomes/comments/cerj0t/my_jewish_parents_wants_me_to_get_married_in_3/

First of all I don't think that is the halacha to begin with (correct me if I'm wrong) if she's already 17. Unless they're saying only if she wants to keep the relationship. Which doesn't sound like it.

Although from her post history it sounds like the family isn't orthodox. But that makes the question harder. Why do the parents want that?

Second of all why is everyone so scared of marriage?

Re: Interesting Articles... Can confirm. I work for an Amazon seller that mainly sells cell phones.

Very often we get smashed phones that are returned, different model phone switched out for a new phone, empty boxes, paperweights, phones that are gutted for parts, non working display phones.

I'd average 1/20 of the returns have some problem.

Re: A Simple Tzedaka Fund Idea
The website says that they check to ensure that the simcha is done in a way that is financially responsible
To me financially responsible is for a wedding to look like a Sheva brachos/vort.

Yes it's extreme for today, but I think it's best that way.

Re: Any sites to sharpen a blurry picture,by increasing contrast of adjacent pixels?
Are there any good sites that you guys used in the past to sharpen a blurry picture, or in my case i have a shipping label which is quite blurry, couldn't get it to scan in the PO so i tried a bar-code generator site and was going to use 3D Paint to edit it to the shipping label but when blowing the pic so big the pixels get killed again, so wondering what free site or even a paid site there's out there that you guys might have used in the past? Thanks
I'm not entirely sure but I think converting the image to a vector file should do the trick.
I don't know any sites that do it off hand but I'm sure you can Google it.

How do i post a video in the body of the message rather then as a attachment?
You can't post a video as an attachment since the max attachment size is 256kb here.

You have to use the URL of the video. Try clicking the YouTube button when posting and putting the URL inside the brackets.

Re: Riddles!
You gotta make it more dramatic!

I heard it like this:

There were four people stuck on a boobytrapped island, which will blow up in exactly 17 minutes. There's a rickety bridge off the island, but that will also blow up in 17 minutes. it takes the people 1, 2, 5, and 10 minutes... etc.
Heard it the same way from here

They have the 2 pack of led lightbulbs again (and br30 bulbs which I never saw before). I think that's a very good deal.

They also have a 100 and 75 watt equivalent bulbs which I never either saw before, albeit unbranded. I'm pretty sure they're the same as the Sunbeam bulbs though.

It's made by an Israeli so it has Hebrew support built in which is also good.

Re: Honestly, honestly do you feel smartphones have improved your quality of life? Tough question to answer. First because I'm not clear on what the question exactly is. Second because I'm just not sure.

Is it a time waster more than a time saver? For me definitely yes. Is that the ultimate deciding factor whether a smartphone is good or bad? I'm not sure.

I'll tell you why I like it. It's quite simple. It seems to me that the main thing everyone doesn't like about smartphones is that it ruins personal relationships. But I'm the quietest guy you've ever met. Even when I was younger before I had a smartphone I never socialized much. Why would it be any different now? So what else should I do with my time if not try to preoccupy myself with something.

Does using a smartphone make me more introverted? Very likely. Would I change if I didn't have a smartphone? I don't know. I guess I would somewhat.

(This took me waaay too long to analyze my feelings to give a response :) )

Re: Used Cars Master Thread
not sure if this is the right place, but I'm looking to buy a used car, and  looking through craigslist there are a lot of cars that seem very legit but are significantly  underpriced, is there a way of knowing when its too good to be true and when its just a guy looking to sell his car?
obviously, I'd only pay in person once I've seen the car (probably with a friend who knows about cars), but was what other things should I look out for, assuming it all checks out?
What's an example URL of a listing that looks underpriced.

Before they implemented the 5$ post thingy, the listings that looked like they were screenshots of pictures all looked fishy to me.

Yes those were the type of listings i saw. Although it seems they upped the picture quality and no duplicates. Always pictures on grass or in front of fancy houses. I don't know what their scam is but there's 0% chance that's a real listing based on that price.

Re: Best Sukkah? Might help someone else.

Second year using these bamboo mats. I hated the fabric covers that they came in. It's nearly impossible to get it back in without snagging. Was thinking of getting an 8" pvc pipe as a holder but it's way too expensive.

So I used Saran wrap on the end and it slides in perfectly

Re: Site Suggestions Responsive theme for the forums. Not necessarily as the default just for people who want it

@Dan
If you give me a list of the important mods that the forums use I can do the manual edits to a modern responsive theme for you. That way I can just email you the file and you can just upload it through the admin interface.

I made a test site where I installed a theme (sunrise). I personally don't like it too much but it was compatible with the likes mod. You can check out to see if you like it. It can definitely use some polishing but I didn't want to spend time on it before knowing if it will be a waste. I quickly made a logo but it doesn't fit too well (and it reminds me of a different site)

You can lock it to the dark mode that way it will fit the blue theme of your main site. Or I can try to change all the orange colors  to blueish colors.

So far I only added the likes mod.

You also have your custom wiki mod. I don't know if that will be compatible. But I don't think it will break the site by installing a theme (you have other old themes).

If anything does go wrong (which I don't think will) I'm personally willing to take achrayis up to $500 for a professional to restore it :)

The URL is all numbers I don't want bots to read it so I'll substitute numbers (It's the international dialing code of Israel)

<WWW>.OII972.XYZ

It's on a free host so if it doesn't load try again in a few minutes :)

Let me know what you think

Re: HOT! HP 15.6″ 10th Gen Core i7 256GB SSD Laptop For $499.99 Shipped After $850..
On one of my laptop's the plastic bezel that goes around the screen was popping up seems like something stuck under it so I contacted HP to see what can be done the only option they gave to me was to return the device.
I told them I wouldn't want to do that as I would lose out on my Chase Ink offer of $186 shall I return an item from that offer.
they told me there's nothing to do except they can offer me a price match to the same price as my original purchase and a $60 off additional.
Is there more that I can do or should I just settle with that and swallow the few dollar loss?
or live with the broken laptop being at the screen is popping up a bit which doesn't really bother me but in a way it's a defective laptop. meeting the screen is nothing wrong with it there's a plastic that goes around the screen which seems something got in between which is causing it to be popping up a bit.
 What's your guys take?

If I would offer you a $126 discount for that defect would you take it? I'd say yes

BTW is that balloon strings I see there? Does someone get a mazal tov?

Using in country where my phone has service but cost a ton for actual calls; data is included in the plan.
Yes I believe so. You just have to download the Hangouts app and the Hangouts dialer (it's a separate app). I haven't had to look at hangouts/Google voice settings and set up for a while since it's been working fine for a while by me, so my memory is rusty. But I'm sure @myi knows all details.

Re: Interesting Articles... Not so much an article but a (untested by me) tip.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/autos/ownership/this-simple-solution-will-defrost-your-car-in-less-than-a-minute/ar-BBYKBaL

Quote
We found a solution that will defrost your car windows in less than a minute.

Sure, there are other ways to get the ice off your car windows like using a scraper or blasting the defroster in your car. But this solution is easier and faster. According to Travel and Leisure, meteorologist Ken Weathersís simple homemade solution only takes a minute to throw together. All you need to create the mixture are two ingredients: rubbing alcohol and water. You also need a spray bottle to put the solution in.

Making the solution is as simple as its ingredients. Just mix two-third parts of rubbing alcohol with one-third part of water. Then, put the solution in a spray bottle, and spray it on your icy windows. When the solution hits the window, the ice will melt in seconds. You can also spray this solution on your doors if theyíre frozen shut. And even if you donít live in an area that snows, your car windows can still get frosty when itís super cold out. You can also save time defrosting your windows using this solution.

Re: Can we Stop Using Zoom?
Vague letter. Did someone notify them that there are fully kosher tablets? The benefit of  ספרים שו״ת was that we knew the questions.
Seems pretty clear to me. I'm sure someone told them that there's kosher tablets.

I also imagine their reasoning is that the benefits of a video conference over a regular conference call/pre-recorded call is not worth the price of making inroads for stuff which is bad. Especially when older children do not need visual stuff. And for the younger children let them play for an extra month or so.

When I say bad I don't mean bad, I mean the lack of good. Because as much as bad is bad, the lack of good is 1000 times worse.

Re: Masks Since I can't get the masks that I have to fit I use it even though it leaks. The issue is that my glasses fog up.

A trick I learned a few years ago is to take regular dish soap and smear a very thin layer onto the glasses (both sides). Let it dry then buff it out with a cloth/tissue until it's perfectly clear. This will prevent any fogging up until the soap gets washed off.

Works extremely well. Try putting your glasses in the freezer with soap on only one lens for a few minutes and take it out to see the full effect.

Thought I'd share in case anyone finds it helpful.

Re: Evolution and the age of the universe
Where is it written that belief in a literal 6-day creation is a fundamental tenet of Judaism?

Why would Hashem create the world in a certain way and fill it with overwhelming evidence that it was created in a different way.

Why do we assume that maaseh breishis was written for the purpose of informing us of the specific manner of creation? Can we possibly think that we understand literally how the world was created on the basis of a handful of psukim? Only a fool would think so.

Maybe it was written for a specific and limited reason. (Rashbam for instance says if it were not written we wouldn't be able to understand the commandment of Shabbos.)

I recommend Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan's work on the subject. Stop twisting yourself into a pretzel all the time and give yourself permission to believe in the science. It's liberating.
I find it much more liberating to think that it's literal as opposed to saying that everything was done naturally except that the beginning was caused by God. To me that seems like squeezing God into the equation.
