Re: Purchases That Work For Amex Platinum Travel Credit I don't understand why anybody would bother with all these gift cards, United gift registry, etc , if you can just book a flight with a pet, (I do it with united) then cancel the ticket (within 24 h) and you'll still get reimbursed for the "cost" of the pet by amex.

Re: Amex Platinum Master Thread
Can someone please advise on the "latest and greatest " way to get the $200 airline credit?  I have used PGGM and MileagePlusX in the past, but a review of previous posts tells me that those methods don't work anymore.

you are asking in wrong thread

Re: Marriott Certs Sale
i was under the impression that you can name someone else as primary. Hopefully someone else can chime in.
thats exactly what I did a few days ago

Re: Marriott Certs Sale
How did you do it?
Were they additional or primary [ there Marriot # or yours ] ?

Your number does not change it to their account. Its similar to adding an additional.
If you have gold status it's up to the hotel to honor that status, while if your guest has platnuim theyll most likely not honor your guest status; the reservation is in your name!
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Don't think we're on the same boat here, I believe your asking a diff. question, if its possible to transfer a cer. to someone else's loyalty account, that i have absolutely no idea
OP question was "Can you book a marriott 7 night certificate in someone else's name as a primary?  Or does AH need to be on ressy" and for that the answer is yes it's possible even without the AH being on the rez.

Not sure what so bad about refusing merchandise from dumpers, very easy to spot a dumper vs a buyer that happened to take a break.

Re: PSA: Don't swipe recklessly for others
There seems to be a bigger picture that people are missing out on here about buying groups.

Buying groups are not a legitimate business. They are using workarounds to game the system. The manufacturer or retailer does not want to sell the merchandise wholesale or in bulk to unauthorized distributors, so they crowdsource by asking individuals to buy and deliver them.

To put this in perspective, imagine I said that I had a fleet of taxis in NYC making a ton of money but I don't have a taxi medallion from the city, or I said I owned a hot-dog stand in NYC making a ton of money without a permit. Would you invest $100,000 with me?
whats better apples or oranges?

Re: PSA: Don't swipe recklessly for others
As a layman i was just wondering that although i understand you cannot dispute the transaction for unauthorized use ,as you gave them permission to swipe but why can't you dispute for goods or services not received. The same way that if you ordered a item online and it never came you can dispute for goods not received (afaik) why can't you dispute that you never received your money .You let them swipe in exchange for money that you never received so you never received what was promised and what the basis of the transaction was -why is that not grounds for dispute ?
there is no such thing as "swiping for money" you swiped for whatever goods he swiped, he has to repay you, simple

Re: Manhattan Kosher Restaurants
The Top Restaurants close to Park Hyatt Are Mikes Bistro and UN Plaza Grill (though a bunch here dont like UN)

If you are willing to go downtown you have Reserve Cut which is highly rated and might be the best Kosher steakhouse in the city and the new Wall street grill which is still working out its kinks

For something a little more reasonable in price look into Le Marais which is a classic tourist steakhouse or Wolf and Lamb

I know @@yehuda would kill me if I didnt mention La Brochette in the latter group as well
He wasn't asking for the Top or highly rated restaurants.
I'm looking for recommendations for a restaurant with similarities  in pricing, portions, and menu to Fuego in Miami or the like. We just really loved our experience there.

Correct, you"ll receive a prorated  refund, and will be charged $95 for the green card, which gives you another 30 days to cancel and get full refund

Re: Jokes Master Thread An uber is cruising down a boulevard when it runs a red light.

"Hey!" the passenger shouts. "Be careful!"

"Don"t worry," says the driver. "My Cousin, he does this all the time."

He barrels through the next red light, and the passenger screams, "Stop doing that!"
"I'm telling you" says the driver "My cousin, he does this all the time."

They approach the next light. Just when it turns green, the driver slams on the brakes.
The confused passenger asks, "You just ran two red lights; why'd you stop at a green?"

"I had to" says the driver. "My cousin, he might have been coming."

Re: What do you eat before a fast?

As for hydration, I generally try to drink Powerade/Gatorade on the day of. Probably the equivalent of 3-4 liters worth. In the past, I'd try to drink 2 liters with the seudah - that isn't a good idea. You'll get bloated and it might lead your stomach to feel uneasy. Better to drink it throughout the day.

No point in drinking all these drinks, one usually gets more than enough electrolytes from foods you eat.

Now unless you find some time on erev YK for your killer workout, regular H2O is all you need.

Hey, it's EYK, דן לכף זכות!

Re: בר הי הי
I was just learning the gemara in Chagiga, and came across this Yeshiva Boys Choir song. Never considered the words before, but isn't it a truly odd thing to sing about?

Gets even harder to understand, when the connection between the passuk in the low part and high part is a mysterious Medrash:

Re: Kobe Bryant, one of the greats RIP!
Itís one thing to get overly involved in cultural influences. What gets to me here is that we are not even talking about a mediocre human being that people are lamenting his leaving this world. By all accounts we are talking about a terrible human being who was abusive to his teammates, conceited, was credibly accused of rape, sued his own mother, and stopped talking to his parents and sisters. He was a terrible human being who had one trick; he could send a leather ball through a metal ring better than anyone else. Itís one thing if he died mid season and that might cost his team the championship. But heís retired and gone from the game.Is he really worthy of being mourned? I donít think so....
Oh, but when the non Jews leave disgusting comments like this when tragedy hits us, they are all anti Semites.

Shame on you, this is neither the time nor the place for your vile rhetoric.
Let a man rest in peace, will ya?

January 27, 2020, 08:22:37 PM
Re: Kobe Bryant, one of the greats RIP!
What in the world does this have to do with anti-semitism? I have nothing against his race or religion. No one is celebrating his unfortunate untimely passing.

What I have a problem with is frum Jews mourning the death of an individual who had terrible middos and set a bad example for the kids and adults who looked up to him, as if he were a gadol biyisrael. Show me someone who was virtuous, a role, model and made positive contributions to society, and it would be proper to mourn his passing no matter his race or religion. I donít know why you are mixing anti-semitism in.
And what I have a problem with, is you spewing hate on someone who just died, period.

Funny I actually agree with all you said, but why can't you realize you were totally out of line, like c'mon man! not here and not now.

Re: Computer Specs Discussion Master Thread
Optane is a new'ish thing so most 'knowers' don't have much real concrete data and experience. And TBH it probably depends a lot on the specific situation (the type of workload etc.)

Personally - my educated guess - I think that Optane isn't to be counted as RAM, in no way.
Funny thing is, on dell they market it together with RAM "24GB Memory: 8GB DRAM + 16GB Intelģ Optaneô Memory"

Whereas on HP they bundle it with storage "256 GB Intelģ SSD + 16 GB Intelģ Optaneô memory"

Maybe they themselves don't know.
