How do you tell a chavrusah (or coworker) that he needs deodorant in a nice way (without embarrassing him)?
Tell him there is a great sale on deodorant and send him this,

Re: Random questions.
It's been a long time since I went to Simchas Bais Hashoeva in CH, and thinking that I'd like to take my kids this year, and I have a couple of questions:

- Where can I find a schedule? List of performers?
- Any tips for parking?
- Will Kingston Ave restaurants be open late enough for a little melave malka? Even on Motzei Shabbos chol hamoed? (I also assume that they have sukkahs, or that there is access to a sukkah).

TIA for help and suggestons.
The million dollar question, How do I know which night is Avrum Fried singing?

What's the best Marriott hotel in Miami area that you can book with a 35k certificate?
Marriott villas at Doral. Out of town a little but you're getting a whole nice apartment for your certificate. Right next to Trump International Doral.

Re: PC friday question of the day. Thanks God I'm not really into looking for parenting advise, my kids are well behaved. I just found @ExGingi point to be very accurate. When you have multiple kids you should know that one size doesn't fits all, which was his sole point.  Bringing much of this debate to a conclusion.

Re: PC friday question of the day.
Slap on the wrist or soap in my mouth we're nothing.

A belt? Slap to your face ?

Listen, I was raised well, I knew my parents loved me, but there wasn't a feeling of unconditional love

In the non religious world, not getting kicked out for not following the rules is easy.

Oh lets wake him up at 8:34am to say shema.

What you trimmed your beard?!?

What is that garbage you're reading.

And yes, my father losing his marbles over gebrochts at the Seder table, I don't go to my parents, not Shabbat, not chagim

It makes my keh 94 year old grandmother sad and it makes my mother sad but eh?!? I'm not interested in having chumros and hiddurim shoved down my throat, pass.

But the getting hit with a belt caused me to detest most things that caused this, usually yeshiva, shull, Shabbat table.
One with a tough upbringing shouldn't speak in general.
I'm not familiar with any decent person using a belt, nor am I familiar with anyone violating century old Chumras at his father's Seder table. I'm confused so I won't say anything, but again, my feeling is that you can't speak for the general public.

My whole childhood behavior sequence involves "do you want a patch?!?" Go to bed, brush your teeth or you'll get a potch.

You were really bad?! Oh well, here's totty and his belt
One minute, did you quit brushing your teeth as well?

What's your point?
In the lust for arguing, you're arguing with yourself.

Re: PC friday question of the day.
Why are these mutually exclusive? Modeling appropriate behavior may lessen the need to 'keep your kids in line' (whatever form that may take for you), but if you've been modeling appropriate behavior and the child is behaving inappropriately right now, do you not do something to address that in the moment?
Right point. Additionally, modeling appropriate behavior doesn't apply to certain misbehavior at certain ages, i.e. how do you model appropriate behavior to your child running into the street? Which brings us back to the point that for proper parenting you need a large tool box, be wise and cool, be yourself a role model, and above all a lot of Tfilah to Hashem.

Re: Its Open Season on Jews
Ya and what would have happened if the guy had a gun? how many people would have been killed?
What would have happened in the church in texas if there hadn't been a good guy with a gun?
Maybe look at it this way.

A bad guy in Taxes storms a Church with a gun, a good man with a gun stops him. 2 people are killed.
A bad guy in NY storms a shul with a knife, a good man with a table in the hand stops him. No one is killed B"h.

Now maybe you have your answer.

Re: Its Open Season on Jews
Let's take a step back and examine what Golus is, so maybe it will become obvious to you (and others).

Golus is a status of concealment. Yidden are called בני בכורי ישראל and were given many special gifts by Hashem. In a proper setting, Hashem's chosen people, firstborn nation, should be free of all problems, burdens and hindrances and occupied solely with learning Torah and keeping mitzvos. However, since we are in Golus, that is not the case (at least not in a revealed manner). Self-defense measures are appropriate, but putting too much emphasis on it is only burying ourselves deeper in a golus mindset, rather than focusing on a Geulah mindset of emphasizing good, and focusing on our true mission in this world. Putting trust into self-defense and weapons seems to be distancing us even more from where our trust should be.
Couldn't be said any better!

@ExGingi, You're a beacon of light here on DDF!

Re: Its Open Season on Jews
In North Miami Beach they come and pay ny prices . Then they rent out villas etc.   It's frustrating TBH.

Also, they use our shulls and don't contribute the part.

Would be nice though if visitors and Vila owners contributed to shulls
Sorry, but you are being overly bitter here, beside for it being a very false accusation.

I was in NMB a few weeks ago, Davened in Kahal Chassidim which attracts most of the villa renters/owners. On a very pushita shabbos they sold the Aliyos for at least $125 each, Shishi was sold for $800, in addition to the at least $18 for every Mi Shebeirach. The Gabei called out the guest before, saying "M'bet the guest zullen zich varem unreefen"

I don't know where you Daven, but I've clearly seen how they managed to make the guest contribute a fortune.

As a side note, I didn't know you live in NMB, but I socialized with many very geshmakeh people over there, including from Chabad (which has a beautifull shul and a large growing community) I hope you were one of them :)

Re: Something Fishy's Maui and Lanai Trip Report, Courtesy of Delta Welcome back from Hawaii !!  Oh was that a trip! should I write a trip report? well, @Something Fishy did the exact same trip so ill be yotze with his ;).

Mr. Fishy, I really don't know which one of the great talents of yours exceed one another, photography or writing, but one sure complements the other, both together is the perfect set, coupled with your great intelligence and perfect attention to geography. And the outcome? an awesome TR worth million$$!! You should really be writing a book of your trips and sell it for top dollar!

You literally take along the reader on your entire journey. Feeling the exhilaration and joy at every step as well as the letdown when something goes not as planned, but with your vibrant positivity you overcome every obstacle, dragging the reader along back on track..

The one place I became dizzy is when you took me along on a 6 mile hike on lava stones and pebbles (sorry for saying it so simplistic ;)) I'm getting exhausted just from reading it, even without offering a helping hand to carry some of the camera gear bags... but I guess muscle size grows with the shoe size ;D.

These trips are what my dreams are made of. Not having the ability to do such myself, I really fulfilled it halfway by reading your fabulous TR!!

Re: All Halocha Shailos and teiffa Questions
1. Hot water is pareve
2. Kavush only applies to leaving things for a while
3. People wash pareve dishes all the time. If it's cold milk, any taam that comes off a sponge is pogem (soap imbedded there).

So quickly we forget that they didn't have 3 sets of dishes in Europe.
1. Hot water is pareve- until you measure dairy cream and use afterwards for hot water without washing out.
2. Kavush only applies to leaving things for a while- remains can stay for a while when placed in the sink or dishwasher.

So quickly we forget that they didn't have 3 sets of dishes in Europe- but 2 sets for sure, same dishes were never used for milchig and fleishig.

Re: Tweets, Pictures, And Videos That Are Coronavirus Related
Do the math

COVID - 3% vs. H1N1 - 00021%
Don't forget this, From the op-ed on DDMS, heard the exact same thing from another doctor too.

"Although the current mortality rate is quoted as 3.4% when compared to the flu which has a 0.1% mortality, I personally believe that the mortality rate from this disease is much less than 3.4%. This is because a majority of patients have a mild illness similar to a cold or mild flu, and they do not come to clinical recognition, that is, they never see a doctor. Mortality rates are calculated based on putting the number of deaths in the numerator and the number of people with the illness in the denominator. Since a large proportion of people are not reporting their illness, because they’re not very sick, the denominator is actually much larger than the current data suggests, which would bring the mortality rate down significantly. I believe as we get more experience with this virus, and have more testing, we will see a fall in the mortality rate."
