Re: Arizona Master Thread
I emailed the shul (office@ahavastorah.org) last week to find out some info about Shabbos during winter break and haven't heard back.

Is there anyplace to buy food for Shabbos?
\
If youre referring to Phoenix, there's a kosher grocery store called Kosher Corner. You can also check out Imperial as well.

Re: Its Open Season on Jews
Name the last great country where Jews had equal protection under the law (1) without being singled out as such (doesn't count if the law specifically refers to Jews) and (2) not subject to the whim of a single person or a small group of people.

The U.S. is a uniquely free country where the protections are so broad and institutional that it never even had to grapple with the question of the Jews.

I agree that anyone (even a survivor) who compares anything here to anything there has some agenda.
If you know any living Holocaust survivor, I suggest you talk to them. Germany was the most cultured country and Jews held extremely high positions across the board. None of them would have ever imagined this to happen in Germany. A diff country, perhaps. But not in Germany.

Re: Siyum Hashas Favorite Speech/Inspiration
My favorite speech was Rav Uren Reich. I have never heard him speak before. It had a great message with the perfect delivery and not to long.
The Yehei Shmei...and then 90,000 amens! Boruch Levine's vzakeini, the arm in arm dancing with so many diff yidden! Beautiful and very inspiring!

Re: The 13th Global Siyum Hashas of Daf YomiAgudath Israel of America.
Weather permitting the next one shouldn't have those issues, but cold was a big reason why I didn't stay for the kel maleh and kabolas Ol malchus shamayim. In that regards, the speeches took away from the siyum element. If they do something like this in the cold again, have the program start 115 and get to the siyum at 2.
Never possible to please everyone. Try organizing an event of this magnitude and see if you can please even 50%. So easy to have suggestions for OTHERS.

Re: Siyum Hashas Favorite Speech/Inspiration
Regretfully, I didn't go, but I am blown away that within a few weeks of seeing terrible attacks on Klal Yisroel, 100,000 people in the NY Metro filled up 2 stadiums to show that we're still here. We've survived anti-semites far worse than the perpetrators of Pittsburgh, Poway, Jersey City and Monsey, and we're still learning Torah. Chasidish, Yeshivish, Litvish, Modern - it doesn't matter, we're all united by our common heritage and together, along with hashems help, we will remain strong.
+1!!!

Kosher Gourmet
Website
A classic deli with slightly pricey/reasonable prices, unlimited fountain soda refills, and mostly-friendly service. You may be able to find discounted gift cards at GreatKosherDeals.com. Next to the restaurant is also a Kosher grocery. The restaurant will give you a bag to go shopping with and you'll bring your purchases back to the restaurant to pay. Mostly (only?) non-perishables sold here. (Certified by the RCF)
Kosher Grill
Website
Review from shiframeir - Got takeout from here (place was packed and crazy for Yeshiva week), and the food was actually very good though understandably not cheap. Shwarma on baguette was great - even though they threw in this cabbage salad that scared me, it actually went great with the shwarma. Burgers were thick with flavor and decent shoe string fries. Caesar salad with chicken was what it is everywhere but with a real flame grilled piece of chicken. Stir fry wasn't fantastic, but is a nice alternative option on the menu that we enjoyed. Chili wings didn't really have much sauce flavor, but maybe they're better when you don't take it to go.
Review from yeki89 (when this store was a food truck called Kosher on Wheels) - Falafel & fries was very good with large portions and fair prices.

Catering by Motti / Motti's Bistro

Takeout food available for Shabbos. Bistro restaurant only open during Yeshiva week

Located on Apopka Vineland (yes, that's a street name), this supermarket carries Cholov Yisroel milk and many other Kosher products.

Sometimes if it's under $95, you don't have to send in receipts. YMMV

Yup, I do. They make you send the item back and don't pay for the shipping. It's not as simple a process, but you'll get your $ in the end (less shipping). Money given via check.

Re: COVID-19 (Wuhan Novel Coronavirus) Pandemic Master Thread
Seriously, people are insane.  There have only been a couple cases in the whole of Toronto and even if there were, not going to a kosher restaurant because of workers being immigrants from a certain country??  And all the people on here talking about cancelling travel plans that are nowhere near Asia or the Iranian city of Qom also seem like a total overreaction...
Call me insane, but I'm uncomfortable traveling

Re: Stocks
Well, as I pointed out before, this isn't just "a dip".

I would recommend you educate yourself a little bit about P/E ratios and future returns. Hussman has been writing about this for longer than I can remember, but for a simpler shorter read you can try https://fsinvestments.com/learn/articles/PE-ratios I also highly recommend reading Richard Russel's timeless article https://www.mauldineconomics.com/images/uploads/pdf/mwo041406.pdf
Lol! I'm a "bit" educated in this area. I actually give classes on these stuff. I get paid to do that so not about to do that here  ;)

Right now I get 2.2 miles/dollar. If I downgrade I get 0.5 miles/dollar. The 1k miles will hardly make up for that.

Re: How should schools and parents deal with tuition?
Schools should listen to Dayanim. All other emotional arguments should be used to try to get donations. The Baltimore beis din claims that they can charge full tuition, while r Shlome Miller claims a peshara excluding mortgage payments. Ami magazine also had an article from a beis din for a peshara.

All kind of emotional arguments, are not a right to charge tuition. In times like this when everyone needs zechusim, schools should not be charging tuition without an absolute heter, otherwise it is geneiva.
Fair enough, but then perhaps this thread is in the wrong forum to begin with. AFAIK this isn't a rabbinical forum (although many seem to believe it is)
