Re: Coronavirus Victims Charity Pages (Donate Now & Each Dollar Will Be Matched 4x!)
Yes, but can all of these almanos and yesomim wait as long as it takes for them to bill all of it?

The money from areivim is meant to be mainly for bar mitzvah, wedding etc. So yes, I hope they can wait. Most ppl don't need 100K per kid the second the lose a loved one, even if he was the breadwinner.
It's meant to stand the  on their feet for the long term, not the short term.

Re: Areivim USA - Coronavirus
I'm not so sure that's accurate. They say that they will determine if the family needs the funds. If you have life insurance, would they say your family needs their funds? I assume not.

I spoke to Areivim at length as I sell life insurance and wanted to best advise ppl that had Areivim already and wanted to supplement it with LI.
I was told that it has never happened that Areivim declined to pay out based on someones assets or LI. It has happened that the family told them they don't need the money, but they never told the family no.
Simple reasoning is, they also think that 100K per yasom doesn't really cover it, the program just won't allow for a higher payout at $28/ monthly. So they encourage everyone to have LI as well to make sure kids are adequetly covered, and owning LI does not disqualify a payout [unless each kid will receive over a million dollars etc].

Re: Areivim USA - Coronavirus
Which is interesting, because the number one reason not to get life insurance is the price, and this is just requiring an additional premium.

This advertises as a prevention for people not needing to collect money, but the reality is far from the way people envision it

The number one reason?
There's actually no reason not to get LI.

And this premium is masser and going straight to an almana and yesomim,  ot to a large coorperation.

Yes, it advirtises as not needing to make a collection, the exact same reason to get LI. It is very argueable that LI is not for the family to have money, they would have money from collections anyway. But it is to save them from the shame of having their names plastered all over the city. And from having the yesomims friends seeing pictures of their friends crying by their fathers levaya, asking for money. And from those same friends comparing how much each of their fathers gave torwards the campaign. Etc. Etc.

So we are trusting Rabanim/askonim with finances! Let’s trust the life insurance companies with our שאלות.

Is there transparency as to who is in charge of the family’s money??

We have had DDF members pass away, let’s hear from their widows. Life insurance or arievim???

Do we have a thread for Stupidest posts of DDF??

I don't beleive the word you were looking for was stupidest.

More accurate may have been wrongest.
Of course we trust our rabbanim on any subject. They may decide to ask advice from financial professinals, but we never value anyones opinion above our rabnanim.

Re: Did you test for antibodies? POLL
As the data is coming in two key things seem to be emerging:
A) Most people who haven’t had symptoms who test do NOT have antibodies
B) There are more symptomatic people who tested negative than asymptomatic people who tested positive (for antibodies)

You do realize that this doesn't [nessacerialy] mean that people had it but don't have anti bodies.

The people testing negative but had symptoms could have simply had the flu or a cold, but that's called symptomatic cause everyone was assuming it MUST be COVID 19

You are correct but isn't the opposite true. Many complained about some BLM protesters not wearing masks but not a peep here.

No one cared that they weren't wearing masks, hence no one complained about it.
People complained that the same politicians weren't enforcing wearing masks there, yet enforcing business closures, shul etc. And yes, playgrounds.

You didn't bring a source.

My source is that we live our lives, every aspect of our lives, according to Torah. The way we know what the Torah wants is through our rabbanim.

If you're explaining vrapeh to mean that the doctors opinion supersedes the rabbanims in medical cases, you need the source not me.

Re: Is Florida less honest than China?
Did you forget that rabbanim ended up deciding to close the shuls? Pick a narrative. Either they were mistaken for closing the shuls at all, or they're mistaken for doing it very late. Or is it that every single Rov closed at the exact perfect time, some weeks before others?

Every Rav that didn't say he was mistaken for not closing earlier, closed at the perfect time if that's what his daas Torah dictated as the right time.
There's allowed to be amchlokes.
The notion that there was 1 "right time" can only be true if you're going solely based on medical experts. Then it's black and white. Either it was spreading and dangerous or not.
But we go with daas torah, and every daas torah is allowed to have his opinion of when it is necessary or not.
They decided in early March the data didn't call for it, and as more data came out, some decided to close then. And some still didn't think it was warranted until a week later. And some thought it was never warranted.

Disclaimer: That is a complete misrepresentation of my opinions.
I follow my daas Torah.
I am machshiv every daas Torah and think you should follow yours.

Re: Is Florida less honest than China? https://torasavigdor.org/chanuka-hyrcanus-downfall/

And here is the most relative point

Question: Torah gives reshus for a doctor to perform medical work מכאן שנתן רשות לרופא לרפאות – so I had once an argument with a learned man and he said that as far as the chachamim, the gedolei had or – he told me like this, this was his argument – he said, “I would go along with them, I would accept their opinion in religious matters. But when it comes let’s say to sickness, I’d draw the line there. The Torah gave the doctors the reshut to heal.” So it’s the same with politics, don’t you think?

Rav Miller: He’s an apikores; he’s a kofer b’Hashem. Because Hashem said you have to listen in everything to the gedolim. Only, they’re the ones to tell you ורפא ירפא – they tell you to go to a doctor.

So there’s no question about drawing a line. If the gadol tells you not to go to a doctor, then you don’t go. He won’t tell you that because Torah says that you should go. But there’s no such thing as drawing lines, because what a gadol tells you, that’s our lives.

Now, a real gadol is very careful what he does and what he doesn’t tell you. Understand that. And that’s why on many things they don’t say because they have not yet found it necessary to formulate a policy. But don’t think that there are areas where a gadol has a right to say and areas where he doesn’t have a right to say. A gadol, a great man has a right to say on everything.

Now this has to be hammered into our heads over and over again, for years and years until we get it into our heads. If we want to succeed in our lives, not only as Jews, if we want to succeed as human beings, we have to take guidance from people who are competent. And who is competent for the Jewish nation? The gedolei Yisroel.

Now, I know my audience. Not everybody here is soaked, steeped in Torah, and it will take many years to get this across. Because people come from the street with the street ideas that rabbis should take care of rabbi business. Outside of rabbi business they have nothing to say. It’ll take years and years, like I said, before we hammer this into their heads that there’s no such thing. The Torah covers every phase of life and therefore in everything we do, if we can have guidance, we should seek it.

Maybe his point is that you should first speak to a Rov, then speak to a Doctor?

Actually, my point was to first speak to a doctor, gather the facts, theroies, and opinions and present them to the Rav for a final desicion.
Unless the Rav said "Go to this doctor and follow what he says, you can trust him".

Just curious, has anyone here ever had to ask a medical q to the likes of R' Gissinger ztl, what was the process. Who made the final decision?

This can't be left unanswered.
Why you think it's ok to skew someone's words like that is beyond me.

I think I was pretty clear (as in read the full text of what I posted) that his Deah was that Shuls should have stayed open with safety measures in place (masks, social dsitancing, no entry if sick) just at least like liquor stores were. And that it would be wrong to say that anyone can be harmed from that.

If someone knowingly has it and came anyway, he is a Rodef. And no one claims someone can't be killed in a shul.
We all remember Har Nof. etc.

Re: Czar Cuomo Guess he got a good chinuch...

Rav Avigdor Miller on Corrupted Italians
Q:
How should we view the endorsement given to Cuomo (Mario Cuomo, father of current New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo) by Jewish personalities?

A:

When you see Jewish personalities who endorse Cuomo – even some Orthodox personalities – they have their reasons; but we have our reasons. And our reasons for not endorsing Cuomo are because of Jewish self interests. Our Jewish interests require the preservation of Jewish lives. And in order to save Jewish lives that are being destroyed constantly by wanton murders, it’s important to restore the death penalty – at least on the books. I will explain something to you before I go on because there’s another question here that someone passed up on a piece of paper. It says, “Is Lehrman’s intermarriage any reason not to vote for him and to vote instead for Cuomo?” (Editor’s Note: Republican Lewis Lehrman ran against Democrat Mario Cuomo in the 1982 New York State Gubernatorial race). Now, pay attention to what I’m going to tell you.

You know, Cuomo is an Italian and the Jews owe a debt of gratitude to Italy. First of all, Italy is the oldest continuous civilization in Europe; it means that Italy is the most civilized country in Europe. The Jews in Italy lived most happily, more than any other country. Even under the shadow of the pope the Jews were more protected than anywhere else. When they personally appealed to the pope they got results. When Mussolini took over Italy, the Jews had nothing to fear. And even when Hitler became the master of Italy – there’s a book called The Destruction of the European Jews by Hilberg and he brings there statistics that show how the Italians were most active in defying Hitler’s demands for handing over Jews. More than any other country that was under Hitler’s domination the Italians resisted and saved Jews. And therefore we Jews should have a certain affection for Italians.

But besides for being good neighbors, the Italians are excellent for public office. And since Cuomo is an Italian, actually we ought to vote for him just because of that. Italians are the very best people when it comes to public office. Our Italian councilmen are the best people; they’re the most reliable. But that’s only as long as they remain Italians! The problem is that Cuomo is not an Italian anymore! He went to college!

Now, there are some that survive college and still remain Italians. Some don’t go to college altogether. There are still a lot of common sense, hard working Italians around. That’s why even today I say that if we would take the justices of our State Supreme Courts and from the United States Supreme Court and we would put them to work pouring concrete on sidewalks, and instead we would take the the Italian construction workers and put them on the Supreme Courts, they would do an excellent job and the country would be much better off. Why? Because they have common sense. They wouldn’t make society so disturbed with the laws defending criminals and making it impossible to apprehend violators of laws. Today a policeman has to be first of all a lawyer and he has to be a judge too; he has to know the whole book before he can even arrest somebody. So he thinks, “Why should I bother?” And even after he arrests the criminal, the lawyers and the judges are on the side of the criminals. But if we had Italians there – if we took let’s say the the construction workers and the ones who sell bananas on the street, and put them onto the Supreme Court they’d restore society! I mean it seriously! They’d restore society to a normal kind of existence.

However when an Italian like Cuomo is against the death penalty so he’s not an Italian anymore. I think Lehrman is the real Italian! He married a gentile woman and he supports the death penalty; he’s the real Italian. And I think that all the Italians should vote for him, besides for the Jews. He’s for the death penalty so he deserves our vote because every person today is in danger of his life. It’s terrible what’s happening in the streets today. Wanton murder just for the fun of killing people. They’re poisoning candies today. It’s fun to murder people, to shoot into a crowd of people, to drive your car into people. Nothing will happen to you anyway. Even if you get a tough judge so you’ll be sentenced to let’s say ten years in a hotel at the state's expense. You’ll get color television, you get good food – nutritionists take care of your food; they plan out your meals. You get free medical and dental care. So why shouldn’t you? And after a while you’ll get out anyhow.

So if you vote for Lehrman, it’s a vote for your own safety, for your own self preservation. So you’ll ask me, but Lehrman has a non-Jewish wife. Imagine a murderer is coming at you with a knife. What are you going to do?! You’re in terrible danger! Suddenly a Jewish policeman is rushing towards to save your life. Will you say, “Stop! You’re a Jewish policeman? I have to know first to whom you are married!”? If he’s going to save your life you have no kashas to ask. And therefore the man who is for the death penalty that’s the man we want to elect! And Lehrman is for the death penalty.

There’s another thing of course that’s also a very serious matter. Cuomo has committed himself that when he becomes governor he’s going to issue an executive order for the entire state of New York in favor of gays. It means the gays are going to have special rights; it’s going to flood the state with the most terrible immorality. And don’t think that New York is just one state. New York is a keystone for the union. All over America it’s going to have a tremendous effect. And therefore in the best Jewish interests I think that everybody should try to try their best to help Lehrman become elected. All the Italians should feel that’s their man. He is the closest to their hearts because he’s more Italian than Cuomo! And the Jews? Of course; why not? All the Jews should also vote for him.

Buyer may be responsible, but it may be good business practice for you to specify any details you may know when confirming you're still buying in a PM if you want repeat sellers

Is Murphy a closet Trumpster?
I think Murphy deserves our gratitude for not going the Cuomo route.

Where can we let him know we noticed and appriciate?

In the footsteps of R Avigdor Miller

Why shouldn't each one of us write letters?  I wrote my letters.  I wrote two letters just before yesterday, four letters the week before last.  We should write letters.  First of all, drop a line to President Nixon.  You don't have to be a literary genius.  Say, “We are for you,” and sign your name.  “We are with you,” and sign your name. “We back you.”  That's all.  He should get tons of letters from Jews.  And so what happens instead?  Instead we have Jews like Bertram Podell, a big ‘chacham.’  He wants to impeach President Nixon.  Or Elizabeth Holtzman, a big kup-mentsch.  The biggest tragedy is that these Jews were elected to public office.

I wrote a letter to Podell so he answered me.  He said, “A friend of Israel?” He said there are other friends of Israel besides Nixon. He said, “If we will have Ford, Ford is also a friend of Israel.”  You hear that answer?! That's how to be good with a friend?! You say you can get somebody else who is also a friend?! That’s a Jew?! Write them letters! And you should write letters also to Elizabeth Holtzman and to Bella Abzug urging them to drop dead.

Now, if you've got a pencil, take down the following address and send in some money.  I'm telling you it's a kosher donation.  Fairness to the Presidency.  Again, I’ll say it slowly: Fairness to the Presidency c/o United National Bank, Norton, Massachusetts 02766.  I sent in mine already.  That's why my name was in the New York Times yesterday in the list of sponsors.  Again, Fairness to the Presidency c/o United National Bank, Norton, Massachusetts 02766.

Plus don’t forget to send the letters.  And put a whack into the letters.  Also you can write to the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. We need letters.  Somebody has to be sane.

Re: Do you think Biden Stole The 2020 Elections?
A federal government agency under the Department of Homeland Security says this election was the “most secure in American history.”
Cause we trust federal agencies, right??
Like the ones that tried to make an "insurance policy" to Trump winning...
