Re: HOT! HP 15.6″ 10th Gen Core i7 256GB SSD Laptop For $499.99 Shipped After $850..
Could anyone explain the difference between the NVME M.2 vs the vs the SSD + Optane.
Which one is better? and do any of these configurations allow an additional hard drive to be added?

The NVME is way faster, and therefore preferable. In order to not loose that performance on startup, the optane version is like a small NVME so if you get a NVME you should be able to add a SSD, and if you order a SSD you should be able to add a NVME, although you may need to swap out the optane and reinstall Windows.

Re: Amazon
Thanks. I was wondering because at times when Dan has posted deals on GC's, I think he had mentioned that they can be stacked in Amazon etc. I haven't noticed him saying that recently but I believe he did awhile back.
Generally speaking what I've found is most online stores don't allow it. (With the exception of dell)

I don't have an Amazon credit card. Do you mean I should buy an Amazon GC and that can then be reloaded in any manner (with my pre-paid GC's)? Thanks

Re: Tweets, Pictures, And Videos That Are Coronavirus Related
Can someone post the lyrics? I am in aveilus and can't listen.
It's in the description

The Place Where They Belong - Abie Rotenberg & Baruch
The Place Where They Belong
Based on the original Abie Rotenberg classic "The Place Where I Belong",
today we find ourselves longing for "The Place Where We Belong".

Performed by: Abie Rotenberg & Baruch Levine
Composed by: Unknown
Lyrics by: Abie Rotenberg

Filmed by: Zoom, Sara Rotenberg, and Chanala Levine
Edited by: Mint media
Technical Assistance: Doni Gross DeG Studios
Concept by: R' Dov Keilson

Lyrics:

I was made way back in 1842
The Torah crafted - by a righteous Jew
My story is no secret  – it’s a legend now well known
How I lost my purpose - when I lost my home

But these past years I’ve once more come alive
In a shul where Torah and Tefilla thrive
Three days a week I’m on display – my words are read out loud
Which fills my heart with joy and makes me proud

But now again I cry out in despair
What happened to the precious sounds of prayer
Where are the lively sessions - of vibrant Torah sparks
I wonder from the silence and the dark

How I miss the Rabbi holding me so tight
And Lecha Dodi’s refrain on Friday Night
I so hope to hear those voices - yearning for Hashem
And that they miss me - as much as I miss them

We know Hashem your judgement’s always fair
And a Yid can speak to You from anywhere
But my heart is aching – for their Tefila and their Song
Please return them to the place where they belong

From deep within we beg the One Above
Protect from harm the children that You love
So that they may stand side by side – and turn their hearts to You
K’ish Echad – their faith and hope renewed

So that they may stand side by side – for all eternity
B’leiv Echad - in perfect unity

Re: Looking For A Good Wireless Mouse
For a laptop, wireless all the way. On desktop where the keyboard sits in its spot and the mouse sits next to it and the wires won't be in the way, I vote for wired, for the reasons I mentioned above. Also they seem to perform better (not a very significant difference, but enough to notice if you think about it).
Agreed, theirs a reason why all the big gaming ones are all wired.

Re: Laptop Deals Master Thread
If both have 16gb ram why is it so much more powerful?  Bc of the graphics card?

Would either of them be able to handle occasionally rending with premiere?
Yes because of the graphics and CPU for that matter, and yes obviously the 2nd laptop would crush in that category, but for occasional use it should be fine

Re: Laptop Deals Master Thread
This might be a dumb question but I assume:

the Asus would be better for rendering than the Dell even if I would self upgrade to 32gb ram.?

And  the 32gb dell would be better for multiple work tasks then the 16gb Asus?
Yes correct, more or less.

Best Wireless Phone-Charger / Stand I've got a Note 10+ which officially supports 15W wireless charging, I'm looking for the ideal stand with adjustable angles, and also supports 15W wireless charging, I can't seem to find anything existing on the market!
It seems that the only wireless chargers that are 15W and support the Note 10+ are made by Samsung, so even something 10W with an adjustable stand would be amazing.

At this point I'm thinking of crafting my own, all ideas are welcome!

Is JJ chopped liver? He had three babies. Does a lot of work on this forum, and never gets credit for it. He would be rich if he got a nickel every time a commenter on DDMS wrote "thank you Dan" on posts that are clearly marked "posted by JJ."

I think we should do a joint baby gift collection.
Well is JJ banned from this thread? Because of he isn't you just ruined the surprise ;)

Re: Baby Present for Dan: (DAN DO NOT READ THIS THREAD)
I think that each member can make their own decision, but I think the suggested amount should be

"$5 to $10, but if you feel that's not enough, $20 or more"

You want everyone to be able to contribute without feeling the pinch, but some larger contributions to help accrue a substantial total. Don't forget, we want to be able to split it between Dan and JJ, and each (or maybe, each's wife) should get a respectable gift.

What's your thoughts?
I think 2 - 5 should be enough considering that in 2013 125 was raised, 7 years later I think we can do 7x that, or more..
(Also more likely for people to join in)

Re: New DDF Forums From a newcomers perspective

Like all good old timers no one likes change, yet there's always that new generation coming leading the way and taking the jump. For some, caught up with their habits, change seems daunting, but I believe it's unavoidable, so minds will get it done sooner!

I see it as follows: theirs 2 main happenings on the forum. Deals and discussions / advice / debates and shmoozing.

For the deals aspect (which for many users is thier main presence), a reimagined sight is definitely necessary going forward. In an age where phones are becoming the only device a person owns, to instant notifications and blazing internet speeds, getting that deal, -and clearly marked as a deal- is essential and every second counts. I would say that's a priority and should be dealt with first, with two key points.
1. When posting a deal it should be highlighted in the thread and have separate notification options. (That allows for a deal and discussion type of thread to take place in harmony example) 2. The process like DDMS, should be done gradually and smartly.

Then there's the discussions / advice / debates and shmoozing, the importance of the longtime members along with the less of a necessity for notification speed, would leave this category with strongest need for time and user-familiarity. Meaning wait till users get comfortable with the design and layout, before even starting to migrate. For this I would say, focus more on the way it was and less on better organization, leading the user to get lost (at least in the beginning).

In short: a combination of "redoing the entire site" and "make a new deal only site", in a manner that gives encouragement to join, while keeping all users happy:)

One of my favorite forum designs (except the ads)
https://www.xda-developers.com/

Edit:
An idea to encourage reading new threads, have a random / popular thread of the day.
In the beginning, understanding the whole Amazon / Walmart deals threads was quite the learning curve, understanding how a first timer approaches the forum can go a long way to growth in users and usage!

Re: New DDF Forums
Please keep the threads in chronological order. Anything else would just be a mess.
That should definitely be user customizable, sort it by date, likes, rating, views, amount of replies, last post, thread starter etc.

Being able to group by reoccurring threads would be a great feature as well
