Re: Corona virus and your shull
Heard from a friend in West Hempstead that shuls will close down there as well.

What he should have said - "If you are in quarantine, and you've come to shul against the law, you have the din of a Rotzeach! Leave Now!
I know someone who had recently returned from Italy and developed a cough and fever. A few of his kids had fever too, and THEY DID NOT GO TO THE DOCTOR BECAUSE THEY DID NOT WANT TO QUARANTINE. Highly irresponsible. Extremely selfish as there are many many people who this virus can be deadly for. His claim was that its no big deal, his family all recovered from it, and they did not get very sick. People need to realize that this is not about you. Its about all other people you are potentially KILLING because you did not want to quarantine. Sickening.

Re: What are we going to do Chol Hamoed?? [UPDATE: And with kids home from school?]
Congratulations, you made it through day 1. Let's see how we're doing in a week. :P
Everyone should share how they made it through day one, and we can all do each others ideas. Should keep going for a few days at least. (I hope....)

Re: How many hours of 'remote' school do your kids have?
I'll start with one of my children:

Neighborhood 5 Towns/Far Rockaway
School Yeshiva Darchei Torah
Boy or girl Boy
Grade 4th grade
Time per day Limudei Kodesh: 45 minutes
Time per day secular studies: 20 minutes + some homework
Teleconference or Zoom: Teleconference (they are not using Zoom because 'they discourage internet use' :-\ )

While I understand that this has been a hectic week for everyone, it feels like the school is doing the bare minimum and wiping their hands clean (no pun intended) by thinking an hour of so is acceptable.

What do you think is acceptable? How is your kids school handling this?
I wonder if it is possible at all to do longer. Many parents have only one phone, with many kids in school needing it, so the school needs to alternate timings. In addition keep in mind the teachers have kids at home too. Im not saying the schools are doing enough, just pointing out the situation is hard for everyone.

Re: Weddings in next few weeks
It would be much harder for them if something ch"v happens to, lets say, a grandparent from them not being careful enough.
While this is true, put yourself into their shoes for a minute. Imagine you are the choson getting married. This is once in a lifetime for you. You dreamt of this day from the day you were born. Wouldnt you be disappointed? I applaud each and every one of such chasunos as it is absolutely the right thing to do in such a time. But I cannot imagine how tough it is for them.

What were your isolation activities today? I will start.
1- Worked on my life insurance policy, which I started BEFORE corona.
2- Looked into unemployment options for the time being, seeing as I am not getting paid.

How about you?

Re: Is there any good news in the fight against CIVID-19?
I pray that youíre right. What happens when workers donít show up or thereís an infection at these plants ? Todayís rationing was on kosher chicken, eggs, & bounty.
As per a family member who is a food distributor for a major kosher company. THERE IS ENOUGH FOOD AND CHICKEN. The problem is the hoarders. If someone buys 50 packs of chicken (true story, I saw the wagon) of course stores won't have enough! The companies can't make deliveries fast enough, so we see shortages

Re: What grade do you give Trump so far for his handling of COVID-19?
Thats true, but there were a lot of medical professionals that werent  taking it seriously either which is at least partly why he wasnt
Whatever this president does, will be viewed negatively.

Anything like this in BP? My parents and siblings are in quarantine.
Try chaveirim. I saw them advertise for a few locations, so they might be doing BP as well.

Ouch. Isn't it funny how during the Black Plague they blamed us since very few jews got infected, and now when majority jews are infected they are blaming us again?

Re: Halachik Status of Illegitimate Minyanim Actually had a minyan across the street of my house. Police passed and said "thank you guys, continue keeping your distance" as everyone was at least 6 feet away from the next person.
The issue was when the minyan ended and they all needed to hock about the latest news....

Re: Maimonidies
Keep hearing more and more horror stories (with names - from close relatives of patients, not hearsay) all NYU and Maimonides.

Now unfortunately Maimonides is not news to me, their being a subpar hospital is quite well known. What shocks me is NYU. I've been in their ER in recent years and was overall very impressed. This whole situation is infuriating.
Actually heard from a patient in NYU that the nurses are being very nice to her and everyone is treating her nicely. Maybe it helped that her children sent over a huge lunch for all hospital staff.
Perhaps all those overworked doctors and nurses need is some appreciation.

Re: yeshivas that are open
I would be shocked if this is legal. Are they also not allowing any older/at risk staff in?
Not sure the details, and frankly I found it hard to believe too. I got my information from someone whose brother is in the yeshiva.

Re: Tweets, Pictures, And Videos That Are Coronavirus Related The difference is as jews, we always know the spotlight is on us. I was taught to be extra careful to do the right thing to always cause a kiddush Hashem.
Which is why I cant understand what is going on.

Re: Tweets, Pictures, And Videos That Are Coronavirus Related
The double standard is still anti-semitism. If police profile with their traffic stops then "Officer he was speeding too" is a very valid legal claim.
100%. But we can agree that there is no need to feed into the anti-semitism

Re: Tweets, Pictures, And Videos That Are Coronavirus Related
Forget the G-d damn spotlight!! Forget the aiva!!! PEOPLE ARE DYING!!!! How many more?!? And then we get to do another matching campaign???
Unfortunately they dont care about that. One of the people who are sending their kids to a "small" school is someone who has lost HIS FATHER to corona. So I completely dont get it, and probably never will.

Re: Bill DíBlasio Warns "The Jewish Community" Whats going on is ridiculous. You want to start ticketing people who arent wearing masks? Im cool with that. I have been wearing a mask from the very beginning and think everyone else should be too. What you CANT do is single out one group of people because their community has a few idiots. Find me even one community where 100% of the people are compliant. One. You want to hand out tickets? Go right ahead. Just do it equally.

Re: Areivim USA - Coronavirus
Why not? Do they plan on living indefinitely, or if Arevim hoping they pay in and drop off before they have a claim?
I believe they only give money to each unmarried orphan. So if all your children are married, you would get nothing.

What is the difference? A lot harder to color within the lines? The type of picture you are coloring?
Type of pictures and obviously more difficult. Plus you can buy some that are not pictures just designs.

Re: Are you still practicing social distancing?
I don't get this at all. Were people only practicing social distancing because the government told them to do it?
People were practicing social distancing because the death list was staggering. Now that its calmed down, people think its already over. My uncle is making chasuna after shavous and he seems to think it will be a regular pre-corona wedding....

That's what i was looking for, its a yellowish cream? i think i own some of that somewhere in my home.
Not sure, but it might be prescription. If you own some, its definitely the best cream for burns.

Re: Czar Cuomo
And what about in BP? You could have conveniently told us about your experience living in the place we are actually discussing. Youíve been there for the last 7 months, how do we stack up?
Honestly, it was terrible in the summer and before sukkos. Lately though, while not perfect, many more people are wearing masks. But my point was that BP is not the only place people arent wearing masks. Yes, many people in BP are non-compliant. But so are many people in many other places.

Re: Czar Cuomo
Thanks for your honesty. How does your experience in BP stack up with your experience in any other single community in NY? Is it crazy to say weíve been by far the least complaint?

If itís not, why did you agree with a comment that suggested otherwise?
Were you in Manhattan during any BLM protests? Were they any better than BP/Willy? If not, why doesnt anyone call them out  either? Im not saying we are being good about masks. But to say only in BP and Willy people arent wearing masks? Thats wrong too.
