What message do I, a layman, take from that?
That they are open as usual and should be reported.

Re: Is your Shul Secretly Open Right Now?
Ummm, no. They are open to whomever the rabbi invites. Yet everyone was told to daven at home.

Forget abut the legalities.

Where do I take this schizoid behavior? How can I look my Rav in the eyes after this is all said and done and have any respect for him? I am asking a very serious question. I am totally at a loss at how I as a regular mispallel can go back there after this is all over.

I hear you and do not envy your question at all.

Maybe you can call the Rav and ask him point blank? Obviously he's a Nogeia B'davor but perhaps he'll have something to say that will give you clarity either way, either something to understand him and then you'd be ok with continuing to Daven in that Shul and respect him or he will make your decision to find a new Shul easier...

Re: Corona virus and your shul Lichvod the Wonderful Members of our Far Rockaway and Five Towns Community שיחיו,

We sincerely hope that this letter finds you all managing well under the current difficult circumstances, and we daven continuously that HaKB"H send all Acheinu B'nei Yisroel the refuos, nechamos, and yeshuos for which we all so truly yearn.

There has recently been much discussion regarding the loosening of social distancing restrictions. We would like to specifically address herein the numerous calls and requests that have been presented to all our community Rabbanim regarding outdoor Minyanim.

Many individuals have been asking Rabbanim to demonstrate leadership by issuing clear guidelines for the establishment of safe outdoor Minyanim. We all understand that Tefilla Bi'Tzibbur is a crucial imperative for Klal Yisroel, especially in a time of crisis, and that davening together could provide us the זכויות and the connection that we so desperately need. People are requesting that Rabbanim, in conjunction with medical professionals, create guidelines for safe and legal Minyanim in our neighborhoods, with all participants wearing masks at safe distances, perhaps on separate properties, with safeguards in place to ensure that there is no significant risk.

We, the undersigned Rabbanim and Roshei Yeshivos, after much thought and careful consideration, feel obligated to communicate- in unequivocal terms- our united decision to reinforce our previous mandate, and bid our community against the creation of any Minyanim, as well as to cease unauthorized Minyanim. This includes porches, front-/backyard, Minyanim--with no exceptions whatsoever. We will continue to reassess and reanalyze this decision on a regular and ongoing basis as new developments unfold.

Pikuach Nefesh is the greatest imperative in the Torah, and overrides almost any other Mitzva. Although on an individual level it may be possible to safeguard against risk, it is impossible to allow the establishment of Minyanim across a community without also accepting the unavoidable violations of safety guidelines and inadvertent health risks that will inevitably result (especially with hundreds davening three times a day, every day). כל המקיים נפש אחת מישראל...כאילו קיים עולם מלא-- סנהדרין לז. Easing the prohibition would be, at the very minimum, a Sa'fek Pi'kuach Nefesh that could endanger participants, and could increase the likelihood of illness and loss of life in our community, chalila vi'chas. And this simply cannot be allowed. At this point in time, this overarching principle is docheh the imperatives of Tefilla B'tzibbur, Aveilim reciting Kaddish, and many other Halachos. We call upon each and every member of our community to adhere to the safeguards that are essential for the protection of us all. Let us do our absolute utmost in following the Torah's mandate of ונשמרתם מאד לנפשותיכם.

Our responsibility to be proactive and vigilant against any possibility of health risk and sakanah extends to far more than just Minyanim. It should be obvious that if we have taken this extraordinary step of temporarily being mi'vatel Tefilla B'Tzibbur in order to save lives, we most certainly must be extra cautious when shopping and engaging in any other activity outside the home. We strongly urge our community to not only adhere scrupulously to all laws and protocols regarding social distancing, but also to exhibit extra zehirus and care to stay within your homes, and to limit any outside social interactions- even while wearing masks- to only that which is extremely important, absolutely necessary, and truly unavoidable. This includes avoiding trips into restaurants and other situations of potential exposure that are not truly essential.

We know that current conditions have been extremely difficult. We truly commiserate and are in constant deliberation how best to make the matzav more bearable. Please take comfort in the fact that, B’Ezras Hashem, your admirable efforts and sacrifices have made a dramatic difference: you have saved, and will IY"H continue to save, countless lives.

Yi'yasher Ko'chachem for all your tremendous concern, patience, and understanding.
!חזק חזק ונתחזק

We will get through this crisis together as a unified community, with abundant Siyata Dishmaya each and every day IY"H. Let us continue to give the Ribbono Shel Olam נחת רוח in carrying out Ratzon Hashem at this time, and merit to emerge from this crisis stronger and better than ever before.

With boundless love, profound care and concern, and sincere admiration for this incredible and special community,

Re: Corona virus and your shul
Can someone justify what is going on in NJ ?
How can they have semi social distancing.
Are we only careful when we go to a grocery store but not by davening outside.
BMG said that chazan was supposed to stop if someone is not following their guidelines with the outside minyan. But did that happen today ? NO

Are they waiting for more people to die ??
Time to change your name to NJ.

Re: Re: 5 Towns/Rockaway Master Thread
Don't be so worried. People that talk (or write) like him don't belong davening with a minyan. Or using that mouth to daven altogether.

It's funny how we must respect Billet because he is anti minyan. But the Rov who has a minyan, and is also a massive Talmid Chochom. deserves to be overthrown by his mispaelilim?!? Doesn't make sense.

I did not take away his title Rabbi because he is believes having a minyan is dangerous. I did it because of his agenda. On another site Billet slammed four Lakewood Rabonim because they permitted porch minyanim. He also belittled a Lakewood Rosh HaYeshiva. Those Five people learn more and know more than Billet will ever learn or know. They have hundreds of Rabonim who consult with them and follow their every word. Their decision was made with heavy hearts and after consulting with many health professionals. Just because they came out with a different conclusion than Billet, he has absolutely no right to belittle them. A Rabbi does not do that. And a Rabbi is not moser his colleagues. I know from the inside what kind of pressure these leftists put on the Lakewood Rabbis. They kept to their decision because they felt it was the right thing to do.

A Rabbi doesn't degrade, belittle, and bully those who disagree with them. A Rabbi should realize there are two sides. And in this case, there are Rabbis on both sides acting like Rabbis. Billet is not one of them.

As a city "Rabbi" who runs the Vaad and other institutions, there are far worse things that need to be fixed than davening with a minyan. He should keep his opinions local, in his shul, among those that follow him. Don't force it on the rest of the world.

As I said, in this case there happen to be more Rabbis permitting outdoor minyanim than those who prohibit. But I do understand there are two sides. Eilu V'eillu...
You're nuts and your facts are wrong. Good night. Rest up my friend.

Re: Re: 5 Towns/Rockaway Master Thread
There is a G-d factor which should take a roll here too. Without Him this won't stop. If it can be done in a safe way, one real good Amen Yehei Shmei Ramah is more powerful than all the medical intervention.
Stop making your own personal silly cheshbonos of the God factor.
BH the 5Towns/Rockaway have unanimous Rabbinic concent and strong united leadership to guide their community through this crisis.
Daas Torah should guide. Not you.

Re: Re: 5 Towns/Rockaway Master Thread
Let's make this simple. You seem to have a wealth of information on both rabbonim and doctors in the 5T/FR community that disagree with the rabbonim/doctors advocating the strict guidelines. Tell us who they are. We can talk to them and gain a better understanding of the 'other side', as you put it. The people on one side are public, and can be contacted to discuss these matters. It's not a conversation, not 2 sides, if only one side will talk to people.
Exactly. Let's see their letters and guidelines.

Re: 5 Towns/Rockaway Rabbonim Ban All Minyanim Due To COVID-19 (Split Topic)
The letter posted earlier was not written by a 'local leader' or a 'letter writer'.

It was written by a Talmid Chachom and a Rav of one of the largest Shul's in the world, please get your facts straight before spewing your rant.

You might not understand every Rav or every letter but your public disrespect and bashing of Rabbanim and Daas Torah is nauseating.

Most Chasidishe shuls did close down at the beginning of the outbreak and they remained closed until after Pesach.
Um, are you kidding me?
Misguided or not,
the general sense in these communities is that almost everyone had it already
Whaaat  :o
and based on the significant drop of the fatality rate the worst is behind us.
So if a signifigent Pekuach Nefesh risk exists, since the worst is behind us and this round will be less death it's ok to open?  :o

Re: 5 Towns/Rockaway Rabbonim Ban All Minyanim Due To COVID-19 (Split Topic)
They let all their mispalilim and all those who ask them shailos know.

Unlike one Rabbi in town, most Rabonim realize they only pasken for their own kehila. They never make city wide public statements. There is no point. Do you think every Rov in town approves of everything that happens in YIW?!? Would they make city wide statements about it?!? No way! But those who ask them shailos know their position. They are not concerned what people in other neighborhoods think about them. It has no affect on them or their kehila.
I'm sure if they disagreed with the content of the letter they would protest a forged signature.

His son in law lives here in the Five Towns. So does his grandson. Both are very chosuva Rabonim here. You can ask them. If you need to find them, you can probably catch them by mincha/maariv tonight.
His grandson signed the letter banning all minyanim ::)

True. Your community is the Young Israel community. Our community is the rest of Five Towns. Most of who do not follow your shuls dictatorship and listen to our own Rabbis. Our community has a different set of standards. We daven with a minyan, we don't talk in shul, our women cover their hair and dress tznius.

Different communities entirely.
Wow, this is this how you talk about other Jews who you don't feel are as frum as you? You do not represent any Jew in the 5 Town/Rockaway. Go away.

Since this program is not income based, and the reality is that EVERYONE is having a difficult time these months (financially, emotionally, or just by being home all day!), and the schools, at least in my neighborhood, are giving practical and great boxes, there should be zero hesitancy by anyone to enjoy the free boxes.
