For families where one parent doesn't work?
Our community is big enough, there is a % of people that this can work for. It won't replace traditional schools but it can be a good option for some if done right.

Re: NY Small Business Strike 1) It's not just 'Jewish' stores participating in this initiative. It's part of a larger campaign by MANY businesses across the city and state to get media attention to reach the tone deaf Mayor and Governor.

2) I'm going to assume that you don't own a retail business that has been devastated by COVID-19. It's very easy to sit behind a screen and judge. People's financial lives and careers are literately being squeezed to death by these Socialist politicians and these store owners will do whatever they can, to open in a responsible and safe manor.

Re: How many people who go to food distributions need it? [POLL] These distributions give us an 'excuse' to get the kids out of the house a couple of times a week for pickup is a great benefit as well  8)

Since this program is not income based, and the reality is that EVERYONE is having a difficult time these months (financially, emotionally, or just by being home all day!), and the schools, at least in my neighborhood, are giving practical and great boxes, there should be zero hesitancy by anyone to enjoy the free boxes. It's available to anyone and is a win for everyone involved.

Re: Life Hacks, Post Your Favorites!
If you are sending a kid to pick up groceries in a supermarket that you know where each of  the products are stocked, list the items according to the aisles. That way they don't have to run back and forth from one end of the store to the other and forget some stuff along the way.
Or husband  ;)

Re: Is Trump sabotaging the USPS?
question still remains what are we going to do to try and make mail in voting work?
There is an existing absentee ballot system that can be worked on to accommodate the folks who can't or don't feel safe voting in person.

The real question is why Democrats and liberals want to make voting by dysfunctional mail or drop boxes the norm for 150M people.

August 18, 2020, 02:44:57 PM
Re: Is Trump sabotaging the USPS?
That is a complete deflection. There is mail in voting. USPS has nothing to do with this decision.
Now what are we going to do to help USPS so we get this done right?
There doesn't have to be mail in voting. Your premise is wrong.

Are you referring to the celebrations the other night for Biden?

Re: Do you think Biden Stole The 2020 Elections?
Those celebrations were wrong for not social distancing. To compare them to Trumps shoulder to shoulder no mask super spreaders is a new level of kool-aid you are drinking.
No drinking here, was just curious if you're seeing what's going on the other side of the street.

Re: Dallas Master thread Very helpful website:

Market & Aderet are closer to DFW (15-20 min) than the other resturants.

Market is not exclusively CY, ask what is CY or Parve, but very good. Make sure to check their weekly/daily specials on IG! Market burrito sounds like @Dan type.

Aderet is typical Israeli/Middle Eastern joint...pretty good for OOT! Solid shwarma, shnitzel, etc.

Meat Point is good as well. They don't always have everything available + they have some off menu specials. Short ribs are solid.

Smallcakes Cupcakery (CS) is worth checking out.

Tom Thumb (supermarket) has an all kosher bakery, small takeout and very good sushi.

Re: LIFE INSURANCE I think this thread is the reason so many young people don't have life insurance.

The average 21 y/o who went through the Yeshiva system and gets married, knows that he has a responsiblity to purchase some term insurance. What turns these young people off is the snake oil insurance salesmen pushing WL and other funds which is not explained properly or in the customers best interest.

Finding a new agent might be the answer but many young people will just say that they're young and healthy and they'll get insurance when they are a little older and more educated. By then they are 40, marrying off kids and will have a much harder time getting the coverage they need.

If someone really wants to change what's going on out there, there needs to be some basic life insurance education offered (in post EY Yeshiva's?) and some affordable, basic, easy to understand plans available. Yes, people are stupid and lazy but we need to reach these people so there isn't a Charidy every day!

April 27, 2021, 12:07:59 PM
IMHO, rhetoric like this does just as much damage. It erodes trust in the establishment as a whole. As always, nuance is important.

You have a valid point in that it is in the best interest of our communities for salesmen to start focusing on getting someone insured with term before even thinking about pushing other products. Hopefully agents who use this approach will gain the trust of the community and people will use them for other products, as well.

We also have to stop turning every call for people to get term into a full-blown investment strategy debate. Get life insurance. Full stop. People needing to speak to a financial advisor is a different conversation.
Agree 1000%

Get everyone 21 y/o who gets married a term plan. Then all the brokers and financial planners can push their businesses after.

We can't turn our young people off by overcomplicating the need and availability of basic term.
