Re: REVIVE THE FLIP PHONE Plenty of people in the Frum community have extensive contacts both with executives as well as manufacturing.  Any thoughts if it would be profitable for them to sell a lineup of well designed dumb phones with all the input from people who actually use them?

Re: What's Your Desktop/Office Setup?
I paid $25 for it just under 2 years ago. I don't think it was any sort of special sale, I just think prices for logitech stuff have been at least retail price lately.
Its pretty amazing how in a couple of years Logitech went from being another cheap company to a name brand. Kind of like what's happening to anker (although maybe diff bc many of their products are Chinese standard with their name slapped on)

Re: Setting up live stream for friends wedding I would consider getting a hold of a bunch of cameras setting up on tripods before.... no one like choppy shaky video. (even with youtube, while vastly better than zoom you cant be sure everyones internet/ comouters / tiny phone screens will produce a nice image)
Even if just 2 you can move the other around while staying with the first one. Multiple camera operators would def be a plus. are they hiring a pro videographer(s) anyway?
He would more or less be filming the entire time... if you can hook up broadcast equipment to his cameras and have someone outside with a livestream control board that would not take up a slot...

With a pro system you would be able to use prepared graphic overlays and easily switch between cameras.
Make sure you have legit fast internet (maybe ethernet cables) to connect. Dont rely on ur phone hotspot.

Make sure to have a good mike for the chuppah and try to hook up to the band or fixed mike placement near a monitor.

Keep in mind many parts will be boring to watch and you may want to have prepared videos to play (i.e. shmorg, meal,) (i.e. chossons friends/ family with a personal message or pulling people over to the sidelines and inteviewing, personalized clups from his rebeim, favorite singers, etc)

Proper lighting!

You will prob want an external monitor as it can be difficult to make sure you are constantly in focus.

Thats what i have off the top of my head. I am not a professional but i have done this BH for numerous familly simchos recently.

Many of the livestream concerts recently have been done by the same guys. You can try getting in touch with them.
Also Chananya Kramer of KolRom is highly experienced and naturally a very talented individual.

Re: Put up or shut up time
I think we need to split the Corona board into two separate boards. One for all the threads that are about reopening and shuls, and the other for all the civil discourse.

And the thread about reopening and shuls should be hidden from members with fewer than 500 posts, and also hidden from members with more than 500 posts.

Maybe they should all be moved to just shmuz. Not like these conversations are setting polices

Re: Maurice Gordon, 28 year old unarmed black man, shot by NJ state trooper
Right before the shots it looks like he was on top of an officer beating him. Very very unclear though.

Whatever it was, this was definitely not a George Floyd situation.
Nowadays everything is a George Floyd situation.

Re: Life Hacks, Post Your Favorites! We used to do this in my dirah:
Take a can of tuna in oil open, cover with 3 squares of TP (if you dont have you can use a napkin or paper towel) and light. It should burn for roughly half an hour and will result in smoked Tuna.

I recommend doing this on the marpeset as it may cause odors.

When flying from TLV or other airports to the US where they gate check for liquids, have a separated decoy bottle of water available to sacrifice.

Worked for this:

You just reminded me- they once forced me to toss an ice cream I was eating but were so busy explaining it would be a problem as it may melt they failed to notice the water bottles in plain sight on the outside of my knapsack.

Re: Is there a second wave?
I'm sure some on the other side have preconceived notions. Why does that have anything to do with our behavior
After learning about Bitachon you should not get anxious. This will allow you to think through precautions logically instead of emotionally.

This does not necessarily need to have any impact on our behavior.
I wholeheartedly agree that we should all be wearing masks where appropriate. However I've seen people driving alone in their cars while wearing masks. How do you explain that?

As a Baal Bitachon you are more qualified to decide which precautions check out medically.

Re: Is there a second wave?
For how much longer? Until there's a vaccine?
Ha!!!! Do you think a vaccine will change anything? Let us learn from the great talk show heads.... There is always something to complain about....
Wait until the Vaccicne is released and we are going to be urged to take full precautions bc idk maybe not enough people are vaccinated? Or who said this vaccine works when mass produced? Or well we've been wearing mask for months so why stop now?

Is the US death rate from Covid 10+%??

IF we look at the end game, either you got better or died, the numbers are 117,000 dead 840,00 recovered. that is a 1 in 8 death rate?!?

What am I missing?
What percentage of sick people had tests?
I would venture to say that of those tested most were seriously ill....

Re: Violent protests erupt across the country
This all comes down to judgement and they made a very bad judgement call. We should expect and demand better.
But I think we all agree this should not lead to:
1 rioting
2 looting
3 defunding any police
4 Atlanta Police Chief resigning
5 immediately Publicly charging the officer with a felony
6 burning a restaurant
7 demanding systematic change regarding racism
And the list goes on

Maybe systematic change regarding training and competency screening.... but I think that would require some money

There are enough ways to ask roundabout questions and get the answer 99% accurately. Just ask Israeli pollsters how they manage with people that try to manipulate the polls. They've gotten very good at it.
Just ask the pollsters from the 2016 elections

Re: Is there a second wave?
Time will tell.  It has not been done before, and nobody knows whether or not it will work.  Stay tuned...
I dont think we need time to tell.
The CDC admits that interview based tracing cant be scaled to effectiveness for the entire country and any survielince measures would require a change to the fourth amendment or some special circumstances loophole around it. Either way you would know when it happens.

After a bit of research I found this.
https://www.law.upenn.edu/live/news/10007-would-covid-19-digital-contact-tracing-programs

Most of the CDC, WHO etc statements are basically "posture gesticulating" like all those companies that emailed "were all in this together, etc"

Re: Questions and Help for BEGINNERS!
If I want to quote to posts into my post, I click on the first and then get about the latest 15 posts under that with the option Insert Quote.

But if I want to add a quote from further back or from a different thread, what is the real way to do that?

Currently, I open a new tab and Quote into a new post, and then copy paste into the original post open in my first tab.
Yeah it's annoying but it works.
This would be easier on a PC.

One tip... you can go back to an earlier page, tap quote then preview and then insert a quote from the latest page

Re: Masks
It's not fatally flawed.  The authors interpreted it one way, and you (admirably) found another way to interpret it.  You should always be reading this way, asking "what did you base your conclusions on?" and "is there another interpretation for your data?"
It's true that another problem with this study is that they don't know how people behaved -did they actually stay home when the government required it, did they wear masks, etc.

There was no need for the government to tell me to stay home, and no need to tell you to stay home.   But you know that fool who lives on the next block over...?  I'm glad the government told him to stay home.
Sadly many of the fools down the block did not listen and many who stayed home on their own are still not going out.
Based entirely on what I am seeing in my community, it seems people made their own decisions and stuck with them nothing to do with govt regulations.

having an emergency response plan is a necessity. having one publicly available for the curios anonymous people on the internet is not. I assume if a parent with valid concerns contacts them they would be glad to provide more information

I'm no fan of Ami, but last I checked Yeshivos in Israel are Jewish. And usually frum too. Rabbi Shaus Taub is definitely both. So there is something there, albeit nowhere close to what I would expect from a Jewish publication.
Rabbi Shais Taub-- the only jewish thing there is the name... the title of the article could easily be non jewish "responds to a mother who's heart is broken"

Yeshivos in israel could be conservative.

Still nothing Frum. Try again.

Re: Will there be Sleep Away Camp this summer?
Honest question for @Lurker, @Dan, @S209, @PlatinumGuy (and possibly others): When you take your kid to the doctor and the doctor prescribed antibiotics, do you just follow the doctor blindly and let the kid (or for that matter if it's about you, the adult) take it, do you try to argue or negotiate with the doctor other options, or do you just ignore the doctor?
I've read articles from doctors about the fine line in that they appreciate an educated patient but not one who questions them based on webMD.

BTW, if he is an FBI agent, it would explain a lot.

How can he be in all threads at all times?

Answer is, there are a team of FBI agents who monitor the "Project Valentine" account on DDF. They have a nightly briefing to make sure they keep all the opinions consistent.
He must be a government employee... that hamster wheel really represents bureaucracy and the teams paperwork

Re: Dating Stories
Story 4 (number 3 is not that funny, so I skipped it.)

A boy redds a shidduch for his friend, but refuses to serve as an intermediary between the two families. Wishing to pursue the shidduch but not having any viable shadchan, the boy calls the girl's family and poses as a shadchan.

The shidduch progresses this way, with the boy faking another identity to be the shadchan through the entire duration of the shidduch process, when they get engaged.

At the vort, the girl's father hands the boy cash and tells him to pass it along to the shadchan. Should he keep it? Must he return it and risk exposing his act?
If they had gmail thay would've been so much easier
