Re: If there is COVID-19 vaccine will you get it.
The most contagious point seems to be a relatively short period. There were very many people who made this same calculation of having been "very exposed" including to a spouse and made the same assumption you are making only to have caught it later on.
Your saying good

Yup. A few thousand dead bodies. The best prosecutor of all.

This may open the door for resuming pax ex TLV with delta and united. That will enable many Americans to leave for Pesach, if how and when they will get back in is totally up in the air.

Ludicrous but possible. Every time I think they have reached the limit of crazyness they prove me wrong.

Kommemius Matza. Most ppl don't have any left. One guy told me hes selling Yad for 265 NIS and Mechona for 232 NIS.
Anywhere cheaper in Yerushalayim that I can still get?
I can help you find, not for much cheaper though. If you don't need shleimim someone is selling broken one in ganei geula for 100nis a kilo

Re: Something Fishy's First Trip to Israel - Planning Thread Wow what a thread! As a local the only thing I would add to the list is a winery visit. There are some gorgeous spots in Jerusalem and up north that are beautiful to visit even if your not so into wine. Flam, Castel, Psagot, Gush Etsion (Jlm area) Netofa, Galil, Adir, are all beautiful and picturesque. Golan Heights Winery (Yarden) in Katzrin is interesting bc you can see the all shomer shabbos bottling line in action. Vitkin just for the fantastic wines. Carmel in Zichron Yaakov is a integral part of the history of the settling of the land.

Re: Lakewood Rabbonim Ban Use and Sale of Marijuana and Related Products I personally know someone in Israel (very frum community) who has a chronic illness. He gets medical marijuana prescribed. He used to go to the same mikva as I did. He would come in, light up, take a good few puffs and then start his mikva routine. Was one of the most surreal experiences.

In a normal country, Bibi resigns this morning and allows for a right wing government under someone else from Likud, including Saar's party to be formed without him. 4 tries and you're out.
But in that case Bennett will want elections again, for his delusions of grandeur.
Resign now? Why on earth?

It doesnt mean anything because a mixup happened?

At least they are upfront about it. My guess is it might have to do with the cleaning of the equipment before the Pesach run or an ingredient (possibly Kitniyos) that got in.
Read the letter it's a packaging issue. Whatever it says on the inside wrapper is accurate.

Re: Jewish Music (New CDs, hock, and opinions)
I didn't hear any. Any recommendations - should I try to first one, or the new one? Which has a better song selection?

I focus a lot on song selection for these albums, as it's terribly boring to listen to accapella of a song you don't really enjoy.
I have listened to #1 tens if not hundreds of times. Gone through #2 a good few times over the last few days. For me #1 is the winner but let's say it's 12/10 and #2 is 10/10. Both on Spotify.

Turks and Caicos (Grace Bay) TR Justed wanted to say that the TRs and destination info is what got me into DDF and is one of the great sources any frum jew can use to plan any kind of travel.
First time doing this, will try to include all pertinent info.
We flew out of EWR to PLS on a morning flight, both flights were 737s but the way there was a much newer bird. From what I can tell most of the flights come in, refuel and quick clean and go back right away. Both ways the ride was pretty bumpy. Only a light snack served, no meal, there is plenty of kosher breakfast options in EWR. Flight time was 3 hours 20 minutes. Turks and Caicos have a pretty thorough covid vetting process, with specific insurance and testing requirements which we had already passed, so I was surprised to be given yet another covid related form to fill out. That and immigration and customs forms and I already had what to do for part of the flight. There isn't much views during the flight when coming from NY aside from the final descent which is magnificent. The views are nearly exclusively on the left side of the plane and the opposite on the way out. The airport is tiny, they really over did it with the hand sanitizing etc. Immigration was pretty straightforward, we came with carry on only, "nothing to declare" (we had a full bag of food) and we were out fairly quickly. Taxis are just old cars or vans, some of them pretty derelict, the prices are capped and are quite fair. The drive to the main Grace Bay resort area (Beaches, Grace Bay Club, Seven Stars...) is about 15 - 20 minutes with some nice views.
We stayed at Seven Stars, from the outside the place looks like a Disney castle... Once inside its pretty refined and stylish, with a very open and spacious vibe. Even the small rooms are very generously planned. The service is very good, suitcases taken for you etc, check in done while sitting in lounging area and served drinks. The resort isn't huge, there are 3 buildings with rooms. Make sure you dont stay in the most left hand building as it right next to the Ritz Carlton development being built and might be noisy. The entire resort was mask optional for guests, I didn't see anyone wearing a mask. All the employees were fully masked, even at the beach.
Our room was a junior ocean view suite. It had full kitchen facilities, very handy, the in built fridges are bigger than typical and they have a nice freezer section with a ice machine. The bathrooms are very well appointed, with big walk in showers and super deep soaking tub. This rooms eating area was on the balcony facing the view. The beach, while not the widest part of Grace Bay beach, is stunningly beautiful and clean, with powdery white sand and the famous turquoise carribean water.
There is a supermarket literally 2 minutes walk from the resort, its walking distance from a few of the main resorts. They had many kosher items in all departments, even wine. (I understand that the wain wine store in the center of town has a very good selection). Prices are exorbitant of course, but we were ready for that and brought alot with us. 3asy way to save- buy your own drinks instead of using beach service. We didnt really do much, basically just chilled at the beach most of the time. Smokers should be aware that the only part of the property where you can smoke is the beach proper, not even at the beachside bar. The service at the beach and everywhere was excellent, the pools were clean, water stations well placed. The spa seemed nice, DW got a massage and enjoyed. One thing we really enjoyed was the Catamaran ride that was included. They include all non motorized water sports with the room and were very happy to take us out on it. It's wind powered, no engine, so it's the most serene peaceful ride, you literally glide over the incredible translucent water. The beach is clean, quiet (I think when we were there it was extra quiet) and beautiful.
We arrived at the airport for the flight back less than 2 hours before departure, was plenty of time. They have an outdoor balcony overlooking the tarmac with a bar and seating area. I got some great footage of planes landing. It's probably the only saving grace of a otherwise miserable airport.
I think Turks and Caicos is a great place for the frum traveler, it's relatively quiet, very safe and basically the same length flight from NY and Miami. I suspect that it's not talked about here too much because of lack of points properties. When the Ritz development is finished I expect that will change.

Re: What cell phone are you currently using? And what are you upgrading to next?
I think I'm going to do that just to remove my filter. It's horrible. I can't reach Support and I'm stuck with a filter that delays my search results by 10 seconds per search, half my apps don't work, from my favorite TMobile Tuesday to apps that require location services, have a no internet symbol and no data icon when browsing have no clue what that means, while my data works with a delay.
Half the websites I visit don't work, asked to unlock or remove that block, but still doesn't work on my end.
Nor does my google talk to speech work, that means no google lens, no talk to waze, Google maps or any dictate to speech.
Way to many things blocked or not working.
Gave them many opportunities over the past 1-2 months but it's does not seem to fit my needs.
Using Purifeye as my filter, but the CS stinks. Avlb from 5am till 10am NY time! And then I get there automatic response on WhatsApp, or a no response when emailing them.

I spent way to much time troubleshooting my own issues with them. Feel like I'm in beta mode with them.

It's either gentech, netspark or that other one I saw posted in the filter thread.

I need a filter primarily for the browser to block sites and pictures, and if they can filter apps as well that's a bonus, everything else I need to work properly, not making my phone work at 50%.

At Purifeye I'm being told if you want this and this then this feature won't work. It's either this working or this. I find that kind of restrictive.

I thought I'm saving some money by paying $40-50 when I'll Glady pay $70-80 for a working filter and swap over for all devices that need filtering to whomever will work for my needs.

Didn't think of that for the headphones to work, using a Usb c. But would like the volume and hang up feature on the cord. Wonder if there's a replacement wire to go with the new technology that's outs there.

Was thinking it was my phone that's the issue.

Though I think it's time for an upgrade.
Pretty much looking for a solid phone with a nice battery life and a normal size device. Don't want something super big or square.
Headphone jack is nice to have and sd card was also but not a must.
Just curious would those otg or whatever they're called work to insert an sd card into my phone to read the sd card?
Sounds like a nightmare. I belive netspark is cheaper than what you are paying. Idk about the US but here in Israel they have good whatsapp support and it's much cheaper than the prices you are taking about. All talk to speech works and it's fully customizable. Highly recommend.

Yes
A great deal of paper work.
I remember opening my first bank account in my home country and then opening my first bank account in Israel. I finally knew to where all those forests had disappeared and what everyone was doing when they said they had to go to the bank and were gone for a week.

It is a subjective term but it doesn't refer to a state of mind, only to the physical possession of wealth. Heavy isn't objective either.
The threshold of what is considered wealth depends on people's state of mind.

Re: Something Fishy's First Trip to Israel - Planning Thread
100%. We have nothing to gain at this point from Kanuis, and we as a group and all of Klal Yisroel only lose from it. Israel could have looked much different (better) if it wasn't for the Kanuis of recent years. I'm not even talking about the baryanim who have nothing with frumkeit and Yidden in the first place, but just live to set fires and yell gevald.
Totally separate from the kosel discussion and kanaus, I still see a big zionist influence on the young frum population. In many circles the frum identity has become intertwined with the Israeli identity. I personally know many people that embraced modern zionism (not the ideology, more the social identity) and aren't aware at all that that's what it is. In their eyes they are just getting with the times. Part of a strong frum identity is what it's not. Of course when thats overdone you have people that won't go to the kosel but won't ask twice about a restaurant hechsher. That doesn't mean it's not a issue.

Could I suggest some actual port? That is fairly widely available. For example https://www.kosherwine.com/quevedo-ruby-port-15499.html?nosto=nosto-page-search1

For something more aged, look for Netofa LBV (late bottled vintage)

Can someone explain to me the people still wearing a mask but wearing it around your chin or under your nose. No one is asking you to wear it
Makes more sense than wearing it alone in the car. Less chance of getting fined by a policeman having an especially bad day.

Reb Shayala Kerestirer. His yohrtzeit falls on Yom Haatzmaut this year. It's hasidic pop culture to make lavish meals in his honour and traditional Israeli culture to grill on Yom Haatzmaut. @Jokeovermyhead would this fall under your perview? Asking for future reference

Re: Israel Halting Student visas for now due to fraudulent visas
No. It is wrong, plain and simple. I am the first one to see things from a different perspective, but there is no excusing this behavior.
What constitutes a student to you? A guy doing Amazon and learning morning seder is more of a student than a balabos coming in for Lag Baomer? You can move this whole thing into the morals thread. If a moisad declared someone a student then it's on them. The person coming in hasn't broken any law. And I'm not sure there is any requirements of any criteria for a moisad to have. You can say that half the people living here on a student visa are being fraudulent to some degree. This is a unique situation that doesn't exist anywhere else in the world and is very hard to judge.
