Re: Prison
Yeah. It was a one off slap on the wrist type of punishment. If hell can ever be called that.

Rikers is a third world country in the middle of the most sophisticated city in the world. People who have never been can never understand or even imagine. Whatever you read about it or see on TV is fluff compared to the reality of it.
IME, people who have never been don't care because they don't think they will ever be incarcerated. It's only when they or somebody close to them gets arrested that they decry what goes on in jail.

Re: Prison
You have to speak oink. I cant sympathize with someone whose job is in any way connected to that. I used to have many "friends" in the NYPD. N.W.A. is now my favorite artist. I have a visceral hatred for anyone associated with law enforcement and "criminal justice". Its not just a job. And as my early conversations here proved, only my book and case number proved I was an inmate. I was just a number...dehumanizing. It's the culture.
I feel bad even responding because it's inhibiting people from hearing the next part. But I have to point out the irony that your calling anyone remotely related to law enforcement 'oink' is precisely the same dehumanization you are accusing others of.

Re: "Amazon Day" Simply pick a day that works for you, and we’ll deliver your Amazo
Why would I want that over regular free shipping?
Trying to avoid porch pirates. If you know for sure you are getting home later than usual and don't want something sitting on your stoop or in your lobby you can schedule for a day that works better for you.

Re: NYC parking fines
My sister had the same story and the judge responded that you can't drive or park a car on the city street without a current sticker on the window. The fact that the it was registered at the time of the ticket doesn't help. By all means, try to fight it, but just letting you know her experience.
Such chutzpah. As if paying state, city and sales tax wasn't enough. Good luck to the person fighting it.

Re: Tipping Master Thread (Who to tip and how much)
Is an 18% gratuity tacked onto my bill for takeout/pickup at an upscale NYC eatery reasonable?
No. Not at all. Takeout/Pickup should be 0% tacked on or added. That's sort of the whole point of you picking it up.

Re: HSBC new checking account, $750 bonus with direct deposit
Like what?
A rep sneakily opened a credit card in my DW's name without her permission by saying they were sending electronic signatures to her phone for a savings account. We only realized what he had done when she logged into her account later that night. When we confronted them they refused to admit wrongdoing, retract the hard pull and even tried convincing us to keep the card because of the $50 in rideshare benefits. Even before that happened, most employees we spoke with were nothing but trouble. It just seems like a shady company which is shocking considering their presence in retail baking. Since then, we've stayed far, far away.

They also have the longest lookback period for new accounts. From the fine print: Customers who held an HSBC consumer deposit or investment account from July 31, 2016 through and including July 31, 2019 are not eligible for this offer.

Also they had a 1099 fiasco that messed up a bunch of people's taxes: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/hsbc-finally-sends-1099-int-350-bonus-offers-pay-costs-refiling/

Re: Southwest questions DW and I were delayed by 2.5 hours, which changed our 11pm arrival to 1:30am. With no prompting from us, we each received an e-mail <24 hours later apologizing for the delay with a LUV voucher but hers was $100 and mine was $50. We flew on individual PNR's. I called Southwest CS and they said they will send me an additional $50 voucher as a result of the 'confusion'. Just FYI, if you're in the same situation, ask other people you know on the plane what they received. You just might be surprised  ;D

Re: Important: Check your no rush credits, many are expiring on Friday 11/2
Try calling.
Calling worked on the first try. I went through the Amazon 'Call Me' link. She initially came back and said she couldn't do anything and then after 10 minutes on hold she said she could issue a gift card for the full amount. Incredible. Stick with Dan and you can't go wrong  ;D

Re: Important: Check your no rush credits, many are expiring on Friday 11/2
How much??? That's the most important part  ;D
$43.01 about half of which was expiring on 3/1 and the rest on 3/15. I wasn't pushy. I didn't ask for a supervisor. I just tried to be friendly. Sounds very YMMV.

Re: Meir Kay should take down the homosexual video and issue an apology Can we deal with this shtus after the pikuach nefesh business is finished? Shuls closed. Pesach programs canceled. People dying. Markets crashing. Yidden being blamed for the spread of a pandemic in the population capital of the western world. Not excusing any behavior from Meir Kay and I know we are capable of walking and chewing gum at the same time but priorities?

Re: Infertility treatments or alternatives?
+1; We definitely feel for you and hope you the best but this is probably not the best place to discuss such personal matters.
@Luvtotravel is right. Atime forums is probably the best place to discuss these matters.
Not sure how it works but https://forums.atime.org/ and then probably click "Contact Us" to get a user name and password or maybe just email ADMIN@ATIME.ORG to get login information.
I haven't contributed to this thread but I can tell you when my DW and I started going down this journey I was very relieved to see it was being discussed on DDF. If we can discuss all of the other completely inconsequential things in JS how much more so should those of us who are struggling have a place to talk in a forum where we already feel comfortable.

Re: Hyatt question
Have you tried calling the hotel manager and asking for a favor? They can sometimes be pretty nice if you are friendly with them
+1 I had luck with that this summer. They CAN manually override but don't have to so it pays to be nice, say how much you're looking forward to going, hoping to return for longer, etc. YMMV and hatzlacha

Re: Name on Global Entry Card not matching passport
What is the easiest way to change the name on GE due to marriage? It also expires next year. Can both be done at once?
It's a hassle. DW had to go to a Global Entry Enrollment Center with her new passport and marriage certificate. Good news is it only took a few minutes once she got down there. If you're flying anytime soon you can probably get it taken care of at the GE Center at the airport.

Re: UPS sure post
Waiting 6 days already for surepost to hand over to USPS, package hasn't moved in 6 days.
Sad to say but this is par for the course with UnSurepost. And don't even try calling UPS or USPS. They will just blame each other and give you the runaround. Sorry I don't have any productive advice but your FWIW your experience is far from typical. Sometimes the package will inexplicably start moving again.

Re: When will a vaccine *really* be available? I don't know the answer but I think we'll see the same sort of wild west style kombina capitalism we saw with PPE in March-June with probably the same players too. I am hoping we don't see a thread titled "100 doses of MRNA vaccine $5000 obo".
