Re: Car Lease v. Buying
This is a very good point, but with only limited relevance. If you only have enough money for the cheapest lease within the category you require (based on utility - so cheapest compact if you just need to get from A to B, cheapest minivan if you need the extra seats and space, etc.), and can't afford more upfront or more in the monthly payment, then that's absolutely a reason to lease over any other arrangement. You can gamble on a dirt cheap used car instead, but unless you really know what you're looking at when you shop around, you may end up spending more money on the used car overall.

If however, you can afford the $300 lease on a luxury car, but not the full cost or financing payments on said luxury car, then you're just using the lease to live beyond your means. If that's your goal, then go for it, but understand that you're not doing it because it's cheaper, you're doing it because that's the only way you can get a hold of that luxury car.

+1

I lease the cheapest car I can find that gets me from point A to B. I just need a reliable car and don't want to take the risk of buying used.

I have never understood those people who lease what they can't afford to buy.

Re: Call of the Shofar
they only SEEM seem minded so that they come off proffessional. In truth, they believe everyone needs to be Chabad because Chabad is the best. They have a systemic superiority complex. They are disdainful towards anyone frum, who is not them i.e. "misnagdim". They are blind believers in the idea that there chasidus is all they need in life, while many people are suffering. They are heavy drinkers.
I can go on and on and on busting the nice "outer appearance" you described.
They are great at pr, but otherwise sickly closed-minded and brainwashed... In my opinion.
And I have meet Shluchim. Secretly theiragenda is to recruit people for the Rebbe. They take pride in this.

You know, I didn't want it to come to this, as we have nice people from both Chabad and Litvish on this forum, but your hateful, ignorant remarks simply demands a response.

Ever since the founding of Chabad with the Alter Rebbe, (Admur Hazakein) they have been relentlessly persecuted by the Litivish. The term "Misnaged" was coined because of the vicious hatred and relentless persecution.

It's no secret that the Gr"a placed the Alter Rebbe in a Cherem based on false pretenses. He was told false information by some of his followers, and without seeking further evidence placed the Alter Rebbe in a Cherem only adding fuel to the existing bitter hatred coming from the side of the Litvish. Did the Alter Rebbe ever do such a thing to the Gr"a?

It didn't stop there. The Litvish community in Europe sought for years to eradicate Chabad and its followers. Massering on them to the governments, beating them physically in the streets and placing the Chabad Rebbe's in Cherem.

The Frierdiker Rebbe left memoirs describing in detail how his cheder Rebbe was beaten up relentlessly by Litvish thugs.

The things Man Shach said about the Lubavitcher Rebbe was so disgusting that I can't understand until today how he wasn't excommunicated by the Litvish community. The same goes for the things Aron Kotler said about the Frierdiker Rebbe. There wasn't a single incident of the Chabad Rebbe's speaking this way about any Litvish Gadol.

Fast forward to today. Fortunately, the Litvish community has for the most part learned to accept Chabad and understand its way of life and its positive effect on world Jewry. Deny it all you want, but the Litvish community and the Litvish Gedolim laughed at the Rebbe and his "Kiruv" campaigns for years and years, mocking it over and over. Chabad Shluchim have literally given their lives over to bring Jewry throughout the world closer to Yiddishkeit. Suddenly, you have Litvish Kiruv campaigns like Oorah showing off how they are doing Kiruv -- the same thing the Litvish laughed at Chabad for but several decades ago.

Chabad Shluchim that I know are very warm, and they will be warm to you if you are warm to them and don't come into their community starting your own Kiruv campaigns. If you start your own Kiruv, and definitely if you start criticizing THEIR Kiruv, I don't expect them to be warm to you.

Last but not least, to the Litvish members of DDF, I have nothing but respect for you as a fellow Jew.

I am sure this makes everyone here feel warm and fuzzy. If you want I can post many more. Just let me know.

Rocky J. Suhayda
Chair of the American Nazi Party
"We have a wonderful OPPORTUNITY here folks, that may never come again, at the RIGHT time," Suhayda wrote to Nazi party members in September 2015. "Donald Trump's campaign statements, if nothing else, have SHOWN that 'our views' are NOT so 'unpopular' as the Political Correctness crowd have told everyone they are!"

You are going to lose this argument. There are hate groups on both sides that endorse candidates. Nation of Islam endorsed Obama in '08.

The candidates don't endorse the hate groups, and that is all that counts.

Re: Nespresso Prodigio Machine Plus Aeroccino Milk Frother - Titan - $75 - Best Buy
I never get that

what about the milk?
do you leave the milk out in it over night?

it would be cool if it refrigerated the milk and dispensed it to the milk frother.

ps. nice writeup.

You can have it fetch the milk from your fridge automatically, but you will have to buy the optional robotic arm accessory that costs $104,299.99, and can only be purchased from MIT directly.

But hey, $25 off is not nothing.

Re: Girls banned for wearing leggings on UA News Story
No disagreement on that statement. But I wouldn't call it all manufactured outrage. The fact is that the rules themselves seem to be focused primarily and unfairly on girls, such that (as in this case) the father can wear shorts but the girls can't wear leggings. An unbiased observer would probably feel that a girl in leggings is at least as appropriately attired if not more so than a man in shorts. They have the right to set their own rules, and those who disagree with those rules have the right to say so. That's why it's not the girls themselves who are complaining here but others who are disturbed by the rules

Give me a break. Shorts are sometimes considered formal dress for men. Police officers around the country wear shorts. Furthermore, dress codes will always impose more restrictions on women and girls because men have a very limited array of fashion. For men, it's either a button-down shirt or a T-shirt, Jeans vs dress pants and shoes vs slippers. Only hillbilly men wear sleeveless T-shirts, and only gay men wear very tight clothing. Women can wear anything from ten different types of jeans, long skirts, short skirts, mini skirts, one-piece dresses, one-piece party dresses, tank tops, LEGGINGS, tights, socks, shirts with high necklines, shirts with "low" necklines, tight clothing, very tight clothing, very very tight clothing etc.

Do I even need to explain the obvious? This is FAUX outrage of the highest order. You are flying free, shut up and wear what they tell you to wear.

Re: walmart stopped The pickup discount has another purpose: get people into the store.

The simple fact is that most people won't make a special trip to the store to save $5. Instead, they will plan a shopping at Walmart, and pick up their item along the way.

Re: HOT Classic Crocs 16 cents shipped
What else would it mean?? :o

Here is my guess: they don't have a way to carpet-cancel all the $0.15 orders at once. If they did, they would have done so. A lot of the work is being done manually, not necessarily one order at a time, but various blocks of orders etc..

Because of this, I doubt that they are done cancelling orders and they will likely continue to do so throughout the day today. As with any price mistake, they will probably "skip" a few along the way and some people will get lucky, like the last Staples price mistake or the Lowe's price mistake from last year.

Re: Budget to penalize large families!
I just don't want so many yidden to fall in to poverty.

There is something very disingenuous about this statement. It's possible that you mean well, but I'm just having a hard time believing it.

I live in a large Jewish community, and from what I see, it's the working class families that suffer the most. The ones that work on the books and pay their taxes. The ones that pay for their own insurance and their own food. The ones that pay full tuition. The ones that pay full childcare. The ones where both parents work so that they can make ends meet. I hear horror stories of how working class people sometimes don't have money for food after paying all their monthly bills.

A significant portion of the families receiving benefits are laid back and have ZERO motivation to get a real job. They stick with local jobs that pay no more than $35K a year "unter dem tish". They come late to shul and hang around for hours.

My point is, I have just as much or MORE rachmanus on families who work their butts off to eke out a living. The budget proposal is supposed to work in favor of taxpayers. I don't know whether it will be successful or not, but I'm happy to give it a try.

Re: FBI Raids Orthodox Homes and Businesses in Monsey and KJ I see there are a lot of very righteous members of DDF.

Life is not binary. Life is not black and white. The vast majority of people who apply for benefits while earning more than allowable are doing so because they are desperate. They earn too much to be eligible for benefits, and at the same time do not earn enough to survive. DH, whether you like it or not, said it exactly right. Maybe he shouldn't have aired the dirty laundry of the community, but what he said is true.

Re: FBI Raids Orthodox Homes and Businesses in Monsey and KJ
2 cents: there's a mindset in town that 'justifies' such behavior. 1) the enormous expense of a Jewish lifestyle vs. A non Jew 2) the taxes being paid for the benefits of those not contributing at all wether it's the benefits of large families that get hundreds of thousands simply bec they choose to learn and not work or the public school system (most student come from families not contributing at all to townships bottom line).....It's very lopsided. Middle class is desperate. Obviously it's illegal.

It's time for the government to start issuing private school vouchers. It wouldn't solve everything, but it would be a good start.

Re: US Politics/2016 Election Pick Your Poison Master Thread
David Duke thanks the president for his honesty. You can't make this stuff up.

Unless you had a problem with Farrakhan supporting Obama, I don't think you should have a problem with Duke supporting Trump. I for one understand that Obama didn't ask Farrakhan for his support, just like Trump didn't ask Duke.

Trump is an idiot in many ways, but he is not responsible for Nazis that choose to support him. If you want to take the approach that he is responsible, then make sure to also hold Obama responsible for the massacre of six police officers in Dallas, instigated by Black Lives Matter whom Obama hosted at the White House.

Re: Google Express Master Thread Not sure if this was mentioned before, but just a little PSA regarding the Amex offer:

Google doesn't know the final price until after they ship the merchandise from the merchant. The final price is only estimated. I checked out with a Walmart order of $51 and change, and they ended up only charging $47, falling $3 short of activating the offer. So far Amex has refused to honor it, but I will try again. (The spend can be done over multiple orders, but there is no option to make an order for just $3).

Something to keep in mind.

Re: Rubashkin freed from prison.
If you believe that people are sentenced unjustly, put your money where your mouth is an advocate on behalf of even 1 person serving an unjust amount of time for a non-violent drug offence. Here's a good place to start: https://www.alternet.org/drugs/15-people-rotting-prison-life-drug-crimes-didnt-hurt-anybody

I'm not sure I understand the logic to this "all or nothing" approach. Frankly, it sounds very bitter.

When your family celebrates your birthday, do you demand that they celebrate everyone in the world who has a birthday on the same day? Maybe we shouldn't celebrate engagement parties and weddings because your friends are caught up in the shidduch crisis?

This is a man that gave a tremendous amount to Jewish establishments around the world with an open heart. Nobody that knows him well has a bad word to say about him. He was given an unjust sentence and they felt the need to advocate on his behalf and did so for years and years to no avail. He finally got out and they are celebrating.

Sure, other people have been unjustly imprisoned, but why and how does that affect this story?

Re: Women in Jewish magazines
I think the lack of pictures of even young girls in clothing ads epitomizes that there is something strange here.

I think they would respond by saying that itís not good chinuch to get young girls involved in modeling. I would just counter that by saying that they hire non-Jewish girls to model. In fact, they donít have to be involved in the photography at all. There are companies that will take your clothing line, find the models and do the photography for you. (Some heimishe companies do this.)

In general, I think that the more promiscuous society gets, the more insular frum communities will become as a counter-measure. Think about it this way: normally you keep alcohol in plain view at home. However, if a family member has an alcohol problem, you will start to hide it. If his problem gets worse, you will throw it out and stop buying alcohol altogether. If it gets more extreme, you may throw out any magazines that have advertisements for alcohol and tell your family to not mention the word ďalcoholĒ at all etc..

Point is, womenís faces became ďnot tzniusĒ when society started shoving womenís bodies in peopleís faces.

January 01, 2018, 10:30:55 AM

Re: Women in Jewish magazines

That does not sound like a reasonable response. See chava for example of what happens when you make whats mutar assur.
There is a distinction between making whatís mutar assur, and building a ďfenceĒ.

In this case, privately owned publications have a right to set guidelines as they see fit. They can deny an advertisement if they donít like the way your nose looks.

Society is being very smug and disingenuous about the way women are being projected. They are hypersexualizing women day in and day out and telling you that if you donít like it then you are just plain sexist, because you are trying to ďsuppressĒ womenís bodies.

Itís NOT normal for a man to immediately have non-tznius thoughts when looking at a womanís face. However, when women are portrayed to men from a very young age as objects, this is where their mind will race to. Fight me all you want on this, but you KNOW itís true.

Personally, I think that they SHOULD publish women in their publications in SPITE of societyís downfall. But I donít blame them for taking a stance.

Re: Another mass shooting!!!
I'm sickened by my fellow Republicans' unwillingness to ban most guns. It's Republican selfishness of the highest level. Other people should get killed all the time, but don't take away my gun.

Which guns should they ban?

Semi-automatics kill the most people in mass shootings, but basic handguns are still responsible for the vast majority of homicides. Wouldnít one argue that if we are going to ban guns it should be all guns?

Now, suppose Congress and the SCOTUS approve banning all guns, what happens from there? Does Jose the drug dealer from down the block just turn in his weapon? Do millions of homeowners across America turn in their weapons? What about their hunting rifles and shotguns? Do thousands of gun stores close down their business?

You canít walk back 200 years of tradition. Guns are a part of American culture.

Itís EASIER to implement airport-level security at every school, university, stadium and office in America than to ban guns. If anything, we should fight and press for security which is achievable and a realistic goal.

Re: Another mass shooting!!!
No one knows at this point what will work. Common sense approaches is where to start. You have the president saying mental health is the issue but signs a bill that makes it easier for people with problems to get guns. Instead those like you speaking out against it you choose to look the other way.

Here is what I think:

Every time a shooting like this happens, there are sensible Conservatives who are willing to pass a bill for the gun laws you suggested. But all that immediately goes out the window when the Left comes along with articles like this:

What triggers someone to commit suicide?

There is a Netflix show that glorifies suicide. We are allowing our children to sit in front of iPads with unfettered access to thousands upon thousands of movies and shows. We allow them access to Facebook and Instagram, following people who can expose them to anything and everything. Meanwhile, we make fun of people who go to "internet asifas" as being backwards.

Re: Bad news: Amazon prime is going up to $119 starting 5/11 I would be OK with this price increase if they would include free no-minimum Prime Fresh, free no-minimum Prime Pantry and no-minimum Prime Now. Other than that, there is NO way to justify this increase. Their crappy selection of movies and shows is not going to sell it.

Subscribe and Save used to be a lot better. Getting tired of fishing for five items every time when they used to give the 15% discount for just one item. What happened to the 20% on one box of Pampers? They had to screw with that too? I find that Target is beating Amazon’s prices on grocery items and toiletries hands down. With Redcard there are no minimums.

At the end of the day, it's just becoming not worth it. It's like Costco telling you that your membership doesn't cover gas, for gas you need to purchase an additional "Costco Gas Membership", and it doesn't cover pharmacy items, for that you need to buy a separate "Costco Pharmacy Membership".

All Trump supporters are not racist but if you are a racist the overwhelming odds say you are a Trump supporter.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/fox-news-commentator-apologizes-for-racist-remark/ar-AAz5U2o?li=BBnbfcL

I hate to say this, but the Left has overplayed the race card and now nobody cares when they cry wolf. I’m scared to think of what that might mean for Jews.

White people got tired of hearing that not liking Obama’s policies meant that they were racist. Whites are going to turn out in even greater numbers for Trump in 2020. The Left has gone completely insane, kicking people out of restaurants for political beliefs, but screaming and crying when a baker doesn’t want to be forced to bake a cake for a gay couple.

If you keep comparing Trump to Hitler, what happens when there is a real hitler? Why would anyone believe or listen to you?

Re: US Politics/2016 Election Pick Your Poison Master Thread
Fair enough. How about the question I added.

You asked:

"Let me throw in a question. When you refer to the FBI agents who served a legal search warrant on Cohen as "stormtroppers" were they talking about the Star Wars film or the Nazi's?"

First, I never referred to them that way personally, but if you mean generally, there is a clear difference between using Nazi comparisons cynically and using them realistically.

When Seinfeld calls an angry chef a "soup Nazi" it's obvious cynicism. Everyone gets that it doesn't literally mean he's a Nazi, but rather a mean guy. I called many of my teachers Nazis. Doesn't mean I really believe they are Nazis.

When comparing Trump and ICE to Hitler, members of the media, congress and other officials are saying openly that these are Nazi tactics and that this is exactly what the Nazis did. Hitler rose to power in the exact same way Trump is etc. Many people actually believe this as a REALITY and call for targeting members of ICE and their families and the Trump family. My more Liberal friends on FB and Twitter are saying that we as Jews can't stand by because we are next. They literally believe that the Trump admin are Nazis and that fascism is taking over.

Steve Scalise already got shot and almost killed. It's only a matter of time before a Leftist loonbag decides he needs to kill more Nazis to save America.

I know you are being sarcastic, but it's always wise to check the going rate on eBay before grabbing sale items to flip. I'm sure lots of people "grabbed" the NES classic from Amazon the other day not realizing that they will walk away with pennies after selling it on eBay.

Prime Day 2018 thoughts Dansdeals stated the following:

"Prime Day is over, but boy was it fun this year! It made it worth being an Amazon Prime member even if they would quadruple the price!".

(Funny thing is, I had a feeling that Amazon took Prime Day up a notch this year to stop people from pondering their need for Prime due to the 20% increase in cost of membership.)

The article then goes on to post deals that were super hot mainly because they were:

1. Price mistakes
2. Amex promotions

Now, I'm pretty sure that the Amex promotions come from Amex, as this is what I was told by several Amazon reps. (not that they always know what they are talking about. ) I think the reason Amazon took the 20% off retail is so that they can milk Amex more and at the same time make customers excited which is a win-win for Amazon. (Crazy Kindle prices? Yup, that's mainly Amex too.)

If we take out those two factors, we are left with some really hot deals, but certainly not smoking hot deals. There was a Pantry deal that was good for one per account. there were also a good deal of inflated discounts, meaning they inflated the retail price to make it look as though the deal was super hot.

Why am I writing this? Well, I still think that it's wrong of Amazon to increase the cost of Prime by 20%, and at the same time charge MORE money for each additional service, such as Fresh, Pantry etc. I don't believe we should endorse this and let this slide. I think they will keep raising the price as long as we continue to endorse it.

That said, I did take very, very heavy advantage of yesterdays price mistakes and deals, so thank you Dan.

Re: 1000 HOT!!! Cups for $5.49 This deal is still alive. You need to select "other sellers" and choose Office Depot.

I'm 99% sure they will send the 50 pack, so if you have time and patience you will at the very least get those 50 cups for free after chatting.

Is this only if you vote Democrat? Or will they drive you if you are voting Republican too?

Re: Ashley Furniture Signature Foam mattress-$32-$73 after $300+ price drops
Why donít you think so?

When this deal was originally posted this morning it didn't state "price mistake" in the title. The title was quite dull for a deal as hot as this one. However, when I looked at the prices it was pretty obvious to me that it was indeed a price mistake, thus my question was "is this a price mistake?", meaning, "shouldn't the title be more exciting?".

In any case, a big thank you to @Davidthebest and hoping that this gets honored. (or at the very least nicely compensated.)

Re: Got my black Friday Nespresso! but what's with toveling it?
I just bought a Nespresso machine on black Friday, does anyone know the halachos of tevila regarding it?

Enjoy it while it lasts. (until you get tired of paying for overpriced pods, at which point you will switch back to regular coffee. Hate to be the downer here, but Nespresso is a great-tasting money grab)

Re: Time to quit Amazon (and Prime)? Like with credit cards, if you know how to play the game you will win most of the time. If you donít, you will lose most of the time.

On its face, Amazon Prime is not worth $119 per year. Most items can be purchased at other retailers in-store like Walmart, Target and Costco. (Costco membership is half the price of Amazon).

However here is the kicker: several times a year Amazon will have a massive sale. Now that they partnered with Amex itís basically a sale on top of a sale. If you happen to need those items that are on sale, or if you are savvy and can flip them for a profit on eBay, then it will offset the cost of Prime membership.

For me personally I have already covered the cost of membership for this year In July I got 15 cases of wipes for free along with tons of other household products for pennies. The recent sale/mistake on the Dyson vacuum allowed me to make a profit that itself covers the cost of membership. Free Echo Dots put me in profit territory. kindles on sale throughout the year is more profit.

If you donít have the time or patience to flip sale items then $119 might not be for you.

Re: SMOKING HOT! Standards
The Google Fi offer was potentially a $700+ (fairly) easy profit

I ran the numbers on this, and the profit on flipping this deal is a moving target at best.

Assuming you donít have the Amex offer, your out of pocket costs are approximately $1100 - $1150 depending on your stateís taxes.

I estimate that selling the pixel on eBay in four months time will net you around $650 after fees. If you can transfer your fi service now to another phone and sell on eBay right away then you have a chance of making $750-775, but in four months that value will certainly go down. Bear in mind that an influx of Pixel listings on eBay can cause the value to tank further.

The gift cards are another story. First, you canít sell electronic gift cards on Ebay. You can try selling them here on the forums, but with the deluge of cards for sale, expect to sell at a 25% discount. Cardcash will be a similar story.

$650 + $750 = $1400. For some people, that is only a $250 profit for four months of wait. For those who did a payment plan, that is also a hard credit pull.

This isnít really a hot deal for flippers. Itís a hot deal for people who want Google fi service and a top of the line phone, and will also be using the gift cards for travel.

Iím afraid that many people jumped on this deal assuming this is an easy $1,000 profit.
