Re: Stroller/Carriage Master Thread My wife went back and forth between the Mountain buggy duet, valco , and Citi mini gt. Eventually settled with the city mini gt. Pros and cons:
Valco
Pros: separate "belly" bar,  light weight
Cons: no track record , feels " cheap"
Mountain Buggy
Pros: Narrow, strong, big wheels
Cons: heavy , air filled wheels (air loss, flats) , doesn't fold easily or flat.
City mini gt
Pros: easiest to fold , large foam filled wheels , folds flattest of all, easy to push
Cons: one "belly bar", very wide ,

Re: Laptop Deals Master Thread
bit the bullet on the miix 700.
Will report back after I take it for a spin. The main reason I chose the miix 700 is because I will either be using it at my desk or walking through a facility while taking notes.
Portability is amazing. It's light as a feather (lighter than any laptop I've ever held), tablet detaches quite easily but keyboard also folds back like other 2 in 1s, either way automatic prompt to enter tablet mode. I find it to be a fully functioning laptop when in laptop mode and a fully functioning tablet in tablet mode.
It's sturdier than I imagined in laptop mode.
Lenovo WritIt is pretty much the only software I kept from Lenovo and it works pretty well.
Pros:
Portability
Light as a feather
Bundled with keyboard and pen
Digital pen (vs. capacitive stylus)
WriteIt
Front and rear cameras
Processing power seems up to par
Windows 10 pro

Cons:
Trackpad - small, sometimes overly sensitive, other times non responsive
Only 2 USB ports - one is the charger and there other is the  pen holder. ( this helps out )

I am not saying that the Taxi medallion business model is right,

that's gotta be the understatement of the year.
The NYC medallion system is legalized racketeering. I can't see it making sense in any universe, to pay a million dollars for the privilege to drive/own a taxi. It defies the law of supply and demand.

Re: Pesach Program in Greece Cancelled Just Now!
I definitely understand the idea of being more 'machmir' so not eating the food they serve and there isn't anything wrong with it technically.  But at the end of the day there is something that doesn't feel right about the whole thing. Something that feels off about it. The whole spirit of it. Inviting people to eat food that you somewhere don't think is good enough. I can't quite put it into words but it seems wrong and not in the right kavana of the whole Yom Tov.
it's called a buisness not hachnasas orchim

Re: Pesach Program in Greece Cancelled Just Now!

Certain heimeshe soda brands have a distinct flavor, so much so that they must be making it themselves. Anyways as far as a mashgiachs job goes, he's the one supposed to authorize anything.
the distinct flavour is the same flavour that other brands that you've never seen or tasted have. There is another concept known as co-packing where you bring your recipe to a company and they produce it to your spec.
The Rav Hamachshir authorizes, a mashgiach supervises.
In your case you may be right, but many heimeshe products are not produced with hashgacha temidis

cant believe that people are stealing from the government, and even worse from the rest of lakewood
everyone pays more taxes because everyone is on programs.

maybe now the taxes will go down?
Taxes don't go down.
As a side note, I know someone who was unemployed, collecting medicaid, unemployment, and food stamps. He then got a job in another state and reported to all 3 agencies that he he got a job out of state and was no longer eligible for services. the only agency that canceled him was unemployment. Recently he told that he still gets gets letters from medicaid office and his current food stamps balance is over $10000.
Obviously he doesn't touch it but for legal purposes he   maintains every document that he ever sent them. So the govt should be arrested for being completely incompetent and tying up taxpayer dollars endlessly in the "system". it almost makes one say that t least with fraud someone benefited. In this case the money is just going to disappear. I can just imagine the accounting nightmare when some wakes up one and discovers thousands of such cases with millions tied up but never spent.

Re: Prison
Maybe it is maybe it isn't, but to think that you can find the way to beat it by reading a book or being trained in some trading system is ridiculous. Pure randomness will include some random success stories. Even if on some level it is not purely random, and considering that it has humans involved it probably isn't, the idea that the system can be beaten by checking some publicly available charts and simple back testing is ridiculous. The Graham market theory of trading short term volatility for long term gains makes sense and is not "beating the system" but being paid for a constructive part in the system. Day trading is not that.

Re: Kosher, Kashrus and Hechsherim Master thread
This sounds like you are referring to the myth that no heimishe product can be better than the OU since they need to rely on the OU for the basic ingredients. This is not the case. First of all, at this point there are many, albeit not all, basic ingredients with supervision other than the OU. Even without that some of the heimishe hechsherim will do their research into the specific OU ingredient before accepting it. While some at the OU will poke fun at the hechsherim which simply call up and ask if an ingredient is good, when speaking to them they will tell you how some will make sure to go to the plant and research exactly which psakim the OU is relying on for each individual ingredient that they allow.
+1
Also there are legitimate chumros that some are makpid on. I manage the Hashgacha for several heimeshe companies produce at our plants. While we accept certain ingredients, they have them replaced for those productions.

Re: Why is our divorce rate rising drastically?
This is such a loaded question. When you grow up with certain social norms and values driven into you by everyone around you, you come to think of your actions as voluntary, but are they? It's so complex. It's like the scientologists who willingly go in the "hole." If you ask them, they will tell you they are there voluntarily, but it's all brainwashed BS.
SO all societal values are the result of "brainwashing"?

Re: The Pros And Cons Of Where You Live I'm going to step on a landmine here. I grew up in various out of town communities, then lived and sent a child to school  & tutored boys for 4 years in Brooklyn  after which we then moved out of town. The Yahudus education, specifically in Shabbos concepts (6 yemei bereishes, etc.) & Meleches Shabbos, are considerably stronger out of town. I have found the "in-town" schools hyper focused on "covering ground" and "finishing" while the "out of town" schools were more focused on Yidishkeit.

Re: Pesach Programs and False Advertising
I don't know if it's a literal list. He mentioned offhand they're have to have a shabbos elevator, no kashering dishwashers, something about hachana issues. That's all I remember.
Shabbos locks
Shabbos elevator
Separate swimming (exclusively)
No rooms overlooking the pool (unless pool is tented)
Kosher eruv
No hachana

They will kasher dishwashers if done properly. All gaskets and seals removed. All screens and filters removed. Complete breakdown of all parts. If there is a belt, it's crucial to remove it. I have found entire sets of dishes (with dinner  :o under the belts. Then libun kal with a torch to all metal parts and hagala for all rubber parts.
We kasher box dishwashers by several clients for pesach and it's not a big deal.
There are programs that conform but have no interest in paying a hefty OU rate.

Re: Problem with Elal and Baal teshuva whose father is Muslim...advice?
Crazy story
I do NOT mean to bash Elal. BH EY have had MANY attempted terrorist attempts thwarted.
and I Do not know how serious his allegations of stolen belongings is. See below- any advice? this is a student we purchased a ticket for to attend a baal teshuva yeshiva:

My moms family is all Jewish and my dad's dad is Muslim, from turkey and his mom from Canada. El al was not too happy about my having Muslim family in Turkey. Before I could even check in for my flight, I was held for nearly three hours as they asked any question you could think of regarding my Turkish family. I was one of the first people in line to check in and I was the dead last to get through. Because of my family history, I have gotten used to the extra questioning since this is my fifth time in Israel. It happens every time, but this time was so much worse. They then told me at check in that I had to take my computer out of my carry on and put in into my checked bag. They didnít make any other passengers do that and gave me no reason for it. Once I got through security is where the real problems started. After the hours of questioning, the director of el al security again pulled me aside and accused me of bringing a Muslim prayer rug into Israel, as if it was illegal. It was only my bath towel. Finally, as I am waiting in the line to board, xxxxx and I were asked to go into the side room next to the gate. They frisked both of us from head to toe and then completely picked apart both of our carry ons. They took out all of my electronics and told me that they had to put them in my checked bag. They gave me no reason. They also refused to let me take my sleeping pills into the plane, With no reason. Once in the plane, the director of security again approached me and told me that they had taken my hard drive and to give him an address in Israel to send it to. They did this without my permission and completely unofficially. I wrote my address on a scratch piece of paper that the director just shoved into his pocket. No official paperwork or anything like that. Once I got to Israel, I realized that the el al employees that had searched my checked bag (where I had packed my ďprayer rugĒ) I realized that they had also taken my deodorant, razor refills, my sunglasses and some really nice cologne that my parents had bought me for Hanukkah. I havenít received any emails or confirmation that they have my property and are sending it to me, so I am assuming that I will never see any of it again.
I am sorry for the long write up. I canít do it now, but Iím the morning I will send you what I sent to the travel agent just in case I left anything out. I feel that I was simply punished for having Muslim family despite the fact that I have been to Israel five times and even stayed for a year on a student visa. I hope that I can get compensated for my property and a refund for my flight home. It would be nice to talk to you and xxxxxxx on the phone soon, because aside from that everything is going great!

Re: Kosher, Kashrus and Hechsherim Master thread
Saw this in another group. Does the below make sense? Product was under KVH:

Was in Costco today and noticed the taboule didnít have a kosher certification on it. I sent a message to the company via their Facebook page and this was their response:

"Hi,

We recently had to make a tough call which required the removal of our kosher  label. The truth is parsley can carry a small insect, aphids. Our parsley is machine washed with top of the line, industrial equipment 3 to 4 times. However, when the Rabbi inspects and finds 1 aphid all of the produce must be thrown out. Knowing how each piece of food must be carefully inspected, our company has much respect for the kosher process. However, if there is 1 aphid found on a parsley leaf we must throw away thousands of pounds of produce. We have now been in the dilemma to either keep up kosher standards, or to not waste the thousands of pounds of food. We have decided to continue our same high standards in the vegetable cleaning process as, but drop the kosher label for our taboule. We are thankful for our Kosher customers, and hope they can understand this decision. "
The gist is correct. Infestation fluctuated well beyond what we were comfortable with and the current wash system relied on human touch to much. There was talk about putting in a fully automated wash system but a apparently proved to difficult to meet the kosher spec.

I'm not too familiar with cutting a picture in half and then printing them in full screen meaning a full size paper if I had access to Microsoft Word or a computer I would actually try to go ahead and split them up and zoom in and blow it up, is there any app or website I could just download this picture or somehow cut it and put them on four pages versus having it on two pages and having the other half of the page blank as you can see in the link below which I'll link, you can even download it if you want beautiful d'var Torah on this week's Parsha.

Re: Which hotels have Two bedroom suites?
i hate opening new threads but i just couldnt find anywhere to post. im looking to go away with the family on points. were a group of 8 and obviously neeed more than a suiite but we did just fine in hyatt houses with the Trio rooms. they give you 2 full closed bedrooms plus a living room area with pull out sofa and full kitchen. they are extremely reasonable too. two regular adjoining rooms wont work for us since we need more room and also need the kitchen. my question is if other hotel brands have similar configurations like candlewood suites or Homewood or something like that. any input appreciated.
IME the 2 bedroom suites at Residence Inns, TownePlace Suites, StayBridge Suites, Candlewood Suites, Homewood Suites, Embassy Suites, Sonesta ES, etc, are not bookable with points. We have often been upgraded for free but only once was I able to get them to confirm the upgrade in advance. I must say, many of these two bedroom suites are bigger than my apartment....

I would point out (also related to our other discussion re: discrimination) that I employ over 50 people as kosher supervisors/inspectors/Mashgichim. At least 1/3 we're not religious thier entire lives. 6 are female (just about every position is open to women). 2 are African American. 1 Hispanic. 2 Iranian. 3 Israeli. 2 converts. Etc. We have a pretty diverse crowd and gladly accept anyone who is a capable, practicing Orthodox Jew (per our Rabbinical Council standards).

Most recent occurrence I experienced was next to the Ohel on Erev RH. There was a captive audience there that was going to say Hatoras Nedorim, why not take the time to say the full shiur (including 3 extra Kaptilech) tehillim before starting the Hatoras Nedorim?
interesting anecdote: several years ago at a pesach hotel I noticed people running out of davening early. I wondered where they were running since breakfast was always fully stocked fir several hours. I mentioned this out loud to someone and he shared an interesting observation. He said he had been in prison for a period of time and noticed that there were people who left davening early. He couldn't fathom where they were running. After mentioning it to someone in prison he said it's basically based on habots developed when you had excuses for leaving early....

Re: Kosher, Kashrus and Hechsherim Master thread

Presumably there are all sorts of kulahs used by various agencies on many products. Does that mean one needs to research every product? What about Bishul akum questions that come up on nearly every product? Wouldn't it make more sense to just exclusively use hechshers that conform to one's standards?
bishul alum doesn't come on nearly every product. Probably not even on 1/4 of certified products.
Also, many people on this board have asked specific questions regarding bishul akum. Grape juice is a known red flag ingredient with many known kulos (many of which I suspect would shock quite a few members on this board). Therefore it make sense for someone to ask questions regarding grape juice.

1. I'm pretty sure milk and a lot of cheeses and (usually non-processed) prepackaged meat is usually certified Kosher L'pesach year round.

2.  I imagine there a lot of things other than milk and ham which could potentially be used in a butcher shop that are not kosher l'pesach. Unless it's strictly a butcher shop only that sells nothing but raw meat.
1. Added vitamins are problematic
2. Raw meat includes schnitzel and seasoned meats which can contain chometz
