Re: Shenandoah National Park? Someone asked on a different thread if it's worth a trip to Shenandoah.
I figured I'll answer here since this is the correct thread.

I just took went there a few months ago.
I hope to write a slightly more detailed review at some point, but for the meantime I'll suffice with some general remarks.

It was nice, but not nice enough that I'd travel from e.g. the NY metropolitan area exclusively for.
Maybe as a trip from Baltimore? Dunno.
Maybe I say this because I've been to unbelievable National Parks in Western part of our country, and I was "spoiled" by their beauty? I dunno.

We traveled the entire Shenandoah AKA Skyline Dr (i.e. almost every viewpoint), and also a chunk of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The part of the Blue Ridge Pkwy we did traverse was IIRC almost indistinguishable from Skyline Dr.
Granted, we didn't get through most of Blue Ridge, and especially much further south which some say is much prettier (e.g. the Linn Cove Viaduct).

The only tip right now that I can give, is that if you do go, only go during Fall foliage.
Yes, that's when the masses will be there, but that's the only time of year this park really shines.

Re: got royaly messed over on Really sorry for you. I hope you can recover your loss.
I think something like this would really catch people’s attention:
WARNING!!!CardCash guarantees gift card’s value for 45 days after purchase. After 45 days you should assume your balance will be drained and your cards will be worthless.

Agree. People may not realize the serious consequences from the current simple disclaimer.
My feeling is that the way the current disclaimer is written, most people just gloss over it. If it would be elaborated some way similar to above,  the risk involved would be more obvious to people.

This problem has nothing to do with CC it's like this with any GC.

Some stuff just need common sense.
I don't think this is "common sense". This is not a rule/risk that is obvious to the average innocent buyer.

Who in the world buys gift cards unless it's with an intended immediate use?
Indeed. And the most frustrating situations in life are when we realize that we have no one to blame but ourselves (which happens to be the case in more than 99% of the time).
A little empathy wouldn't hurt.

Pompeian 100% Avocado Oil Spray - $1.43! Just stumbled on this crazy deal.
Price is $3.19. There's a 25% coupon and an 80˘ coupon (which is only seen in cart) + S&S max of 5% =$1.43.

Best of all the coupon keeps working again and again (I maxed out at 9).

This is the lowest recorded price. It's usually $3.19 in Target as well. But in supermarkets this goes for $5+.

Re: Meir Key should take down the homosexual video and issue an apology A. Reading this thread was sufficient warning for me to not even open the video (so no, he didn't get my click).

B. Having watched many of his past videos I'm honestly not surprised in the slightest. As others mentioned upthread, he has a long track record. It continues to baffle and upset me that he's promoted, invited, and utilized by frum entities.
That's what it boils down to IMHO.

If he wants to do his thing, well it's a free country. But I'd expect people under the frum umbrella to completely tune him out already. I hope this was the last straw.

Hoping he finds his path (& mate) in life ASAP.

Re: Corona virus and your shull
Then it is a failure. "Most" is not good enough.
The exceptions (hence the "most") don't adhere to rabbinic authorities in any case (anarchists*). The majority who do listen, were also obeying the rules.

(*which may help you understand why some were arrested by NYS Sherrifs/NYPD last night. I'm not providing more details.)

Re: DON'T GO TO FLORIDA FOR PESACH - Hatzalah, community leaders S. FL, Orlando etc
Sounds like a bunch of Bernie supporters (though I doubt they even bother voting).
Funny you mention, cuz when I looked at it - it was the Trump demographic that crossed my mind.
And Corona-wise the polls show that is correct.

Re: Corona virus and your shull
Chabad students are perfectly fine in general. Some of them didn't follow the rules because of their personal believes. I'm writing 'hopefully' because they can't technically stay all day in a small room on their bed (they have nowhere else to be), they are involuntary spreading the virus even more. By being in Israel with their families, they can have a proper quarantine or any special care they need.
No different than students of any other group.

Not as far as it relates to masks outdoors. It just adds public transportation and for-hire vehicles to the requirement (regardless of social distancing).

is it wishful thinking to try to get a good rate for a one-way rental during august?
Not at all. Though it does depend what region you're thinking of, and from where to where.

I don't know though if/how the pandemic affects this.
Does anyone have experience?
I did it and am hoping to do it again.

Re: Jacob Kornbluh
Bubbeh maasos, media was there before. a photographer was harassed the day before. This is like what people think of the Jews, we control the banks, politicians, the weather, vechulu. People attribute so much to JK it beggars belief. He's a shmo with a few followers, with fans among NY Jewish media. Yeah, his story got a lot of retweets, but what gets you on local news looking like buffoons is behaving like buffoons, not a Jewish Insider reporter with a lot of retweets.
You're missing his first major offense: Going on live TV at the mayor's press conference in front of a tremendous audience to masser on a shul near him. He wasn't ashamed to give full details, address and all on live TV and complain to the mayor why he's not enforcing... And that there's many more that are open too that he doesn't have full details yet.

That was just low.

Re: Jacob Kornbluh Tischler and Kornbluh are two separate and distinct problems. No need to conflate and confuse one with the other even though the issues happen to be related.

Kornbluh snitched on live TV long before the HT issues.

October 16, 2020, 10:42:39 AM
Re: Jacob Kornbluh
in the search to find one boogeyman to blame everything on, people are finding JK or HT.
I'm not seeing that about JK, only about HT (multiple op-ed's). Just because people are still angry at JK, that doesn't make him the "one boogeyman". At least that's not the way I've seen anyone perceive it.

The truth is, there is no one single issue at play.
Agree. Though right now it's Cuomo.

October 16, 2020, 11:07:09 AM
Re: Jacob Kornbluh
Regardless of your opinions on JK and HT, it's ridiculous how the story has become about two doofuses who don't represent anyone yet have declared themselves our saviors.
+1. Mind boggling how in a city with daily shootings, robberies, and other serious crime, this would be the top local news for a few days.

Re: Czar Cuomo
But to say it never shut down is wrong.
THIS is exactly the point.

Sheesh, you Covid police keep arguing irrelevant points. Cuomo never mentioned that they didn't SD or wear masks. He said they never closed! Which is the one big fat lie that should bother everyone.

Doesn't matter whether they closed for 3 weeks or 3 years. It's still a lie.

October 17, 2020, 11:05:57 PM
Re: Czar Cuomo
I don't disagree at all, but why can't we argue this honestly?
I think all agree that from some time after Purim till at least Pesach, all major institutions shut down. That's all that matters per Cuomo's propaganda.

Re: Crown Heights as a COVID-19 lab
I know of one parent who took a public stance against the insane conspiracy theories. He put his name on a public letter that went around Crown Heights, though two websites published it without his name for some reason.
You "know of one parent"... In third person.

Re: Colorado 4 day budget Road Trip Very nice! Can't wait to go back to Colorado!

Good thing you stocked up in Bingo, as you'd have quite a shocker if you'd have shopped locally at East Side Kosher Deli instead; they're ridiculously overpriced. But they actually do make good fresh bagels at a reasonable price.

Overall Experience: One might say we did too much driving, I disagree. Driving was the best part of our trip. One view after the next, it's endless! I now dream of the views every night. Make sure to do the driving during the day.
Ha, that always elicits reaction from me when someone joyfully tells me about their road-trip planning that "no worry, we'll do most of the driving at night" ::) . In these regions the scenery during the driving is way too beautiful to pass up.
