Laptop Deals Master Thread I'm looking for good serviceable 15.6 inch (or bigger) laptop in the $250-$450 range due to the holiday season, normally priced $400-$600.
I want it to be useful for browsing the internet, word, excel and quickbooks. Preferably 3gb or more and duel-processer or better.

Dan usually posts on the main site ,the $1300 ones that are on sale for $800. I'm looking for a lower end one, but a good deal nevertheless.

If you see one on sale, or one that will be on black friday, please post it here. Thanks

Re: Looking for cheap good Laptop deal I'm still looking, if someone sees one not too expensive as I wrote earlier. Thanks

Mechanic in Lakewood Im looking for a reliable mechanic in Lakewood.
I DO NOT WANT A MECHANIC THAT MAKES YOU LEAVE THE CAR THERE. Where I come from, im used to my mechanic greeting me and usually checking my issue right away. If he or his worker are busy on another car, I can wait a few minutes, but he usually will diagnose the car pretty much while im there, and will call for parts as well while I wait, if I want.

Who in Lakewood can I use without being told that I must leave my car.

Re: Vote: Keep Or Ditch Likes? So I was a nice guy and decided to like someone's post. Now I am left with a big ugly dark black box that says UNLIKE, plus it fills up a whole line telling me "you and one other person liked this".
So now im temped to 'unlike' it, just to get rid of so many words on my screen.

Re: Israel's good friend Obama...
The term "anti" is used a lot in this thread so let me try one. If you consistently side with a foreign governments position over the US is that being anti-American? Should I wait until Friday for this question?  :)
What a lame duck President does against the wishes of an absolute majority of 435 members of congress, and 100 senators, means nothing to me.
In fact, they are the American majority, and he is the anti-American one.

Re: Trump-Republican tax plan bad for large families
The rest of the concerns regarding larger families not getting the personal deduction is not accurate since Trump is raising the CTC (child tax credit) to $1600 per child and raising the income threshold for CTC to 230K for married filers.
Might be true for children up to the age of 17.
But how many people have dependants into their 20's at home and in college, that you can't claim $1600 of child tax credit for, yet you are losing $4,050 exemption for each one of them, plus the loss of your own and your spouses exemption?

Re: Trump-Republican tax plan bad for large families I have read that if companies have more money, they will just use it to buy back their own stocks from shareholders. It won't help the economy.

Also, what is the point of stimulating an economy, that already is at a low of 4% unemployment?

United Basic Economy- How bad is it? If I book on one reservation for me and the wife, will they really look not to seat us together, or I shouldn't worry about it?

If I have a baby with me, is Basic Economy less of an issue?

If basic economy is $40 less per ticket, is there any reason not to save the $80?  (My options would be to need to pay $25 for 2 carry-ons for a total of $50, or skip it and just pay a total of $25 for one suitcase, and no carry-on.)

Re: Antarctica Cruise Raffle
I nominate @Deal Guy and @EJB
Now go start a new thread  ;D
Lol. It needs to be the same charity, that can afford to do it at cost. They made much more then they ever expected.
That will allow quicker raffles, as well as being able to give big discounts for someone that already bought a ticket from them.
Dan, I'm sure you had a busy day, but I would think there would be another ddfer in Cleveland that might volunteer to do work on the day of raffle.

Re: Another Antarctica Raffle!
Writing up today's post.
Should we have:
1. Detailed breakdown of tickets bought so far

2. Comparison analysis of 1st vs 2nd raffle, but not as detailed.

Comment in the next half hour

2 is not necessary, as you don't need to compare to that raffle. Yours is a smaller raffle, cheaper tickets but lesser prize. And you are doing it in a much shorter period.

Decided to go to the Bal Harbour neighborhood, and the boardwalk is a disaster. What's up with that? No money to build a boardwalk?

I don't like the new 1040 format Is it just that I'm not used to it, or is it really bad and stupid?

I prefer the old way, when the 1040 had 79 lines, and you were able to see which credits are showing up, which adjustments to income there are, ect... and after that, if you wanted, you were able to see more details in the attached forms. (For example the credit for child and dependent care expenses -form 2441- showed up on line 49 of the 1040 with an amount, and then you were also able to see an attached 2441 for more details.)

Now, all those credits and adjustments still exist, but instead on seeing on the 1040 what credits you might have, it just says add here all amounts from schedule 2, 3 ect.. You have no idea from seeing the simple one-page 1040, what credits are taking place, whether it might be a 2141 credit, or an education credit, or an retirement contributions credit, ect, whether you have one credit or 5 credits from the same sheet..

I understand doing a whole tax code overhaul, but why mess with the 2 page 1040? In the 1980's and 90's people might have liked putting your taxes on a POSTCARD, but today, nearly all do it on a computer. So why truncate it all, to pretend it fits on a postcard?

How to deal with dentist? My dentist did work (cavities) on a couple of teeth near each other 2 month ago. Before he did the work, there was no pain. Since then, my tooth (or possibly both) hurt whenever I eat hot or cold food. I think that 2 months is more then enough time for sensitivity to go away.

What are my options at this point? I did go back a month ago, and they took x-rays and didn't see anything. Can I make him take out the filling and redo it?
His assistant told me that he wont do that for me for free, (since I guess insurance wont pay him). Obviously I feel I have every right to have him do it again, since this only happened after he did the work.

How do I get him to do it? Any reason he wouldn't be obligated to do it for free? Do I call up the insurance company?

Any ideas. Thanks

Re: TLV-CLE Nonstop Flight This story would've been shocking had United stopped ANYONE from providing food to their passengers, when United clearly wasn't prepared.
But to stop Dan? C'mon United!

We can all love to hate on Elal, but I can guarantee one thing Elal WOULDN'T have done. They wouldn't have stopped someone from feeding their passengers.

Re: Do you think Biden Stole The 2020 Elections? I was about to start this thread, you beat me to it.

I honestly believe that in the swing states like Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Trump won more votes from people that either voted in person, or filed out mail in ballots on their own, and mailed them in themselves. We'll leave it at that.

Re: 2020 Voter Turnout
Not worth anything at all, but I've been hearing of a lot of registered R's voting Biden. They're pretty pissed at how DeSantis handled Covid, and since he's not on the ballot, they're taking it out on Trump. I'm very curious to see FL's numbers when this is done.
This comment was as biased as all the polls were. :)
What makes you think that people are pissed at Desantis? (To the extent that you felt more were pissed than vice versa, and would affect the vote.)
Of course, people that share your viewpoint on covid, are pissed at him, and that's what biased your thinking to how Florida would vote. There was nothing in the actual voting that backed that up.
Up north, many of us praise him and wish we had a gov like him.

If you have a c- section scheduled for Jan 2nd, you may want to consider moving it up to December 31st for $1100.

Re: Who do you think will win the GA runoff (and US Senate)?
If what youre saying is true -then why didnt the republicans in charge in Georgia halt counting until daytime. Probably because what youre saying isnt true...
Trump moved the needle the wrong way this time around.
He held a rally in a district he won 69-30 in 2020. He was trying to boost the numbers. Yesterdays turnout was 70-29. He didnt move it enough and cost the R's votes in Atlanta. Also look at the counties where the candidates are from. Warrnock carried his county which previously had more R votes.
Perhaps republicans need to do a self assessment and re-think what they did wrong and what they stand for. If youre a party for the people then stand up for the people... by failing to get the stimulous money and ppp before November it cost them the election.  If biden and his majority govt push through stimulous and ppp and do somethign again in 2022 they will take hold again.  Republicans need to work on 2022 and building a strong candidate for 2024 to take on VP Harris.
I hear your point, but on the other hand if you watched Gabriel Sterling last night you would understand why he was rooting for the Democrats. He was the lead official from the secretary of state, Brad Raffensperger, who was in charge of the election. If you listened to him in all the interviews last night, it seemed as if he was even rooting for the Democrats to make a comeback.
But what do u expect. After the pressure trump put on the Gov and secretary and state, they had to prove that they will get the same dem results now, as in November, so that trump shouldn't be able to say that they cheated just by him.

Re: Stimulus Checks In theory you are right about them wanting to pass it right away.
But I just can't see it happening right away in practicality, because:
A- they would need 60 votes, which is not a sure thing at the moment. And if they go with less, they need to do a budget reconciliation which is limited to 1 (or 3) per year, so it would take time, especially if they want to tie it to something else in a budget reconciliation.
B- they need the IRS to help with distribution, and the IRS needs to open up the 2020 tax filing season later this month. They simply couldn't handle another new distribution, especially when any new bill will surely have new rules, like older dependents..

Therefore, I see Congress saying, go file your 2020 taxes, go get the Eic money, and after April (when the IRS quiets down), we will work on $2000.

But this is all logic, and not always do things work with logic...

Re: Second dose side effects
Side effect after the first dose were worse for people who already had Covid
If so, maybe those that already had covid, should suffice with just 1 shot?

IRS guidance on $10,200 deduction:
$150k threshold based on MAGI, not AGI.

HT: @Deal Guy

What about FAMILY LEAVE?
It is issued in a 1099G just like unemployment, and ends up on the exact line on the tax return.
Does that also get reduced by up to 10200?

If someone had 8k unemployment and 2k family leave, can they deduct 8k just for unemployment, or 10k to cover both?
