Re: Kosher, Kashrus and Hechsherim Master thread
I've never heard of a major kasharus agency not willing to certify parsley or the like in a commercial setting.

Huh?
The ou sounds clueless based on the facts presented.
Wouldn't this all be avoided by just bringing back the DE?
#OU EpicFail

This is total sheker, the original press release was very clear,  and I posted it above. TLS misrepresented it originally, and is blaming it on the OU

Re: Kosher, Kashrus and Hechsherim Master thread
Who's there to call regarding this product?
K is put on by the company, so you'd have to call them and ask them if it's their own assessment or under rabbinical supervision. then you'd have to verify with the Rabbi. also, there's a real chashash here of Gelatin -
https://www.kashrut.com/Alerts/?alert=A5084
https://www.reddit.com/r/vegan/comments/4tslb8/i_contacted_planters_about_gelatin_in_their/

Supposedly this is why the OK stopped certifying Plantes 20 years ago or so, they didn't like that some products were real treif. The OU has seperate production lines for the kosher stuff. (all this according to the internet).

Delice Pico is reopening without a Hechsher. Claim to still be CY but I doubt anyone CY would step foot in there.
I'll believe it when I see it. They've been saying they're reopening on la brea too. Neither will succeed without hashgocha, and probably not with it either

I'm a huge fan of Lieders. I got them to do frozen double-wrapped meals for a trip to OGG a few years ago, and they nailed almost everything and worked to accommodate our pickup schedule. Prices were reasonable as well.
that's great. La Gondola does it too, but probably much more pricey.

It can also be that credit piggybacking doesn't work for business cards.
Could be. Exactly my point. Business cards is a normal place to have multiple unrelated users for a legitimate purpose. Personal cards are not

That doesn't make any sense.
Sure it does. If you go to McDonald's and buy a black coffee you won't have a Hava Amina to buy a burger. If you go to Starbucks you might get a latte and then you might get a flavored mochiato

Re: Liqour/Whiskey/Bourbon Master Thread
Some Poskim hold itís not a problem, since bourbon is only kitniyos sheavar Pesach.
Didnt think of that, interesting to hear that there's 2 sides to the argument, I guess that's why you should ask your LOR.
This is inaccurate, bourbon has actual chametz. Bourbon mash has to be 51% corn, and usually contains rye or barley as a significant second ingredient. There is a different heter, not to buy, but to keep, because of hefsed, discussed on the forums previously.

Re: Liqour/Whiskey/Bourbon Master Thread
Sure.
I'm assuming there's an argument the other way, because most kosher stores sell these products, I just haven't heard it yet. All kashrus lists 'do not recommend' them.

Re: Liqour/Whiskey/Bourbon Master Thread
There is so much confusion with alcohol in general.

When a list says 'not recommended' they should explain the reason why, so ppl can make a decison for themselves (ex. Sherry cask).
Imho, when they write 'not recommended' on bottles like glenlivet 18 or glenfiddich 12, 15, 18 etc, w/o reasoning when most ppl drink these, it cheapens the whole list and ppl disregard it.
The CRC, for example, is happy to explain themselves, C and are very well researched. They have different classifications within sherry casks, and are ok with some, not others. (depends on how much final product was in said casks and other factors).
They have no responsibility to explain why they recommend or not recommend, and sometimes they don't have all the facts but also don't know that it's not good either (c.f. some Starbucks products). But if you ask them they're happy to explain.

Just to put things in perspective: the Ravad held that it's okay to say that hashem has a body....

He does not. Read it again.

General comment to you - it's ok to question why. Especially on a psak, even a hanhaga. It's not at all a stira to emunas chachamim. There is plenty of chassidishe literature that does exactly that.

Many bad reviews.
In particular: It doesn't keep the coffee/ water hot.  It brews the coffee and then the pot contents cool off.
Not good as a Shabbos urn.

Re: Vaccine Discussion Master Thread @chaimmayer We are going around in circles, and there is inherently a lot of circular logic here. But consider this, and this addresses @mmgfarb point as well. Of course doctors are not all knowing creatures, and of course if you don't have Ruach Hakodesh you can't know facts not presented. But we trust the vast body of doctors scientists, regulators and government agencies to make determinations on our behalf, due to the vast amount of data and evidence available to them.
Let's use GMO's as an example. There is no real science that they are unhealthy. It's something people have done naturally for thousands of years, and now it's being done scientifically, in a lab, with exacting results, which is admittedly scary. However, GMO's are enabling thousands of lives to be saved by having sturdier seeds in extreme third world countries, and so on.
If the government agencies that are allowing this to go on were mere puppets in the hands of industry, as the anti-GMO's claim, and they're really life threatening and dangerous, don't you think that there would have been some sort of mass epidemics across sub saharan africa? Shouldn't there be a stronger incidence of cancer in fast food workers becasue they spend so much time near microwaves? and so on and so on.
Halacha tells us that these governmental agencies have the authority of a Beis Din when it comes to enacting health and safety regulations, and they were talking about much less transparent governments than the USA. (Aruch Hashulchan, Rav Nosson Gestetner, et al). Not because they are all knowing, they aren't, and they admit that. But because they, to the best of current methodology, have determined these products to be safe. And that includes vaccines.
I could go on, and I've given up on farkoifte anti vaxxers. But what I tell people is this:

Kids are dying and getting really sick from measles. I don't know if you've known people who had polio as a child, but I do. When they survive with lungs intact, the rest of their life is still misery. Generally they didn't survive.
We tend to not be aware of how terrible some of these diseases are because they aren't common. But vaccinations have saved untold millions of lives. There were, and even possibly still are issues, but most have been addressed, and there is a ton of circular and quack science out there. It's not about Eastern vs western, I'm all for some alternative medicines. It's about responsible medicine. To blanketly and uncompromisingly not vaccinate is, in my opinion, totally irresponsible. You can slow down the schedule, etc. But it should be done with medical advice, and by all means, find a doctor who understands your perspective. But just like you wouldn't avoid cancer treatment because of your hergesh (I hope, some people would, and are rotzchim beyadeim mamash), this should be no different.
And when it comes to poskim, all the big rabbonim always said to follow conventional medical wisdom. That is our chiyuv hishtadlus. Even if there are some outliers, none will sign a paper that says not to vaccinate, (the psak you sent doesn't say that either), and that isn't normative halacha.
I said my piece, unwillingly. I wish you much siyata dishmya in your decision

Re: Booking El Al with Qantas - master thread
Yup. Will try again if it doesn't post this Monday
I had a transfer to QF delayed around 3 weeks. I called MT and rep was really helpful, he claimed he reached out to QF to expedite the transfer and points should post in account within 48 hours. 40 hours later they were in the account. The rep was even kind enough to email me 2 days later to follow up.
Finally posted (I have to confirm it's the right amount), I called Thursday , got a supervisor, who told me that there is a single person on the Marriott side in charge of the transfers. She sent that person an email and gave them all my info. Said I should hear from said person soon.
I didn't hear from anybody (and unfortunately I couldn't get a contact name or info for them), but the points posted today.
Chasdei Hashem, the flight I needed was still available.

Re: What Award Itinerary Did You Just Book/Hold?
LY LAX -TLV - LAX x 10 750k UR
Is it worth getting Matmid for all of them?
been on hold for 4 hours because they booked the baby as a lap child (their mistake) and now the prices jumped. keep you posted.
ETA - 6 hours on the phone. First they were saying that the ticket wouldn't be bookable with points. Now they're saying that the flight is full, which is, of course, not true.
ETA #2  - 2 chidushim 1) El AL doesn't allow them to book a child under 1 in its own seat (I presume baloney). 2) they by mistake canceled a different kid on the reservation, and they can't reinstate until they do an investigation to make sure we didn't ask them to. Now we're filling out investigation reports.
They used to be decent, these DChase people. combination of them and LY is terrible.
ETA #3  - case opened. have 5 booked, and 4 being reinstated, and one kid left off. Investigation opened. total time on the call 6:54m. expect results in three days
ETA #4  - plot twist, all 5 tickets appear on the chase portal. lap child is still a lap child though.
ETA #5 - I just called back, because I realized that while they're investigating itinerary #2, #1 will become uncancellable, and then what? So I can bite the bullet and cancel #2 myself and rebook for a slightly higher rate, but alas, they don't let me. because I've already used my courtesy cancellation with them, when they cancelled a ticket - unasked! So back on the phone I go, but when I hit 30 minutes I'm going to hang up

Now you can post here  :D

Call regular CS, explain the 8+ hours on hold fixing their mistake and ask for a goodwill gesture of the extra 20k (at least) points back.

Although at this point I'm sure you're just glad to be done with them all.

Wow, impressed that you had 6+ hours to wait on hold.
Don't blame you for hating their music.

I really hope you enjoy this flight and it will make up for all the time spent booking this award.
 I'm assuming 750K UR is in J or Y?
And like lubaby mentioned. When you find a few minutes find a rep who would be willing to give you a few k worth of points after explaining what you went through.
If only they would issue all 750k back! ;)

I delegated the sitting on hold. :)
It's 10 seats in Y
I will call back eventually.
Thank you!

Re: All Halocha Shailos and teiffa Questions
Do chain stores buy their private label items thru a distributor too?
Various brokers are involved from what I understand, and they may or may not own the food. C&S had their own private label. So does krasdale, which is a Jewish owned company that does not sell their chametz.
By the way, A small time food broker who buys and sells to both distributors and retailers was in my house on Yom tov. At any given time he owns 100 truckloads of various foods. He's careful to not own chametz, but many of his Israeli colleagues are not. These are not even an official part of the food chain, just operate in the shadows.
