Re: Misc Credit Card Questions
Amex doesn't allow their travel credit to be used on seat upgrades. (I wonder if any of their cards do. I'm thinking no, but I'm not sure.)  I'm specifically looking for a travel credit that can be applied to seat upgrades (economy to business; business to first, that sort of thing).  Thanks for replying. :)
Donít know where you are getting that from, Amex definitely does give the airline credit for seat upgrades.

Oh wow, good to know. I will just use my Amex Plat.
Make sure you select the airline first.

Re: Pesach Programs and False Advertising
Not sure why you came to this conclusion but my guess is that you're extremely off base, you clearly have no idea what it would mean for a guy like that to be in that situation.
His beef was definitely the treatment and the work. Wether Chipotle did or donít happen isnít clear. One thing is for sure it workers being treated poorly wonít stop anyone from going, Chipotle part might.

Re: Amex Offers Discussion Thread
Did you receive the 10% credit? I have the offer added to my card thinking of using it on gift cards.
It works on gift cards.

Re: Gift Card and gas Promo at Stop & Shop or Giant
So you don't have to use the same ss card when the coupon is redeemed. I thought the coupon has to be matched with ss card.
Coupon is generic and can be used on any card. As explained upthread the earning side is unlimited. Redemption as a general rule is limited to 10 total coupons per card (nothing to do with transactions itís total coupon redemption per card). Getting additional cards will help on the redemption side. Keep in mind that S&S is pretty good at merging accounts. I think I gave you enough to work with.

Re: If You Could Ask AMEX Execs One Question, What Would It Be? If they can go back to the option of signing up for Amex offers via a link. (Used to have it for SBS back in the day). It makes it a lot easier to add offers you want, and honestly now that they donít allow more than one offer per card holder/AU, it wonít be abused. No reason to have to run through all your cards multiple times and hope to be targeted. I think that this is something easily implemented and benefits both Amex and the consumer.

Not necessarily... The biggest hotel chain in the world doesn't know their @$$ from a hole in the ground.

ממה נפשך.  If it's allowed then that's hishtadlus if it's not then it's a different story.
That is 100% false. Read up on hishtadlus VS Bitachon. Its definitely not everything that can be done must be done. Its not for the scope of this forum, but its one of the very difficult aspects of playing this game. At some point making yourself too crazy is called just being an idiot. Hashem gives you what you are supposed to get.

Re: Amex MR- Selling $50 Itunes GC Discounted
Normally the worst of values, Amex is selling $50 iTunes GC for 4117 MR points. While Dan and others might value them at more, the selling value is around 1.25 each. If someone uses iTunes GC a lot,  value is pretty good here (IMO)
Since iTunes is constantly available @ 15-20% off, this is a terrible value even for people selling @ 1.25.

Re: Marriott Hotels
If booking with the free night certificates for immediate family, can I just make the reservation in their name, or does it have to be under my name and add them to reservation?

Also, if using 3 certificates and paying with points for 4th night, do I still get the 5th night free?

System wont let you book without your name, add as guests, you will have no issues.

Re: Misc Credit Card Questions
when citi premier writes how "you will receive 60k TY points after $4k in purchases are made within first 3 months", do pending charges count?

my statement closes tomorrow 9/12 and I have $600 worth of charges sitting as pending that likely will not post until after 9/12. if they don't count, what charges can I run up today that will definitely post in time?
Itís usually not exactly 90 days. It varies by issuer. Doc has a write up about it.

Re: Verizon Fios Credit For Sale

Anyone try cancelling?  Did it get refunded to CCs?
It will refund to the CC in reverse chronological order that you paid with. Once it can no longer pay out a full payment (IE you paid $300 but it now only owes you $257), they will send a check for that amount, and only that amount. The rest will be back on CC even of they tell you otherwise. This is even a year+ later, from experience.

Re: What is a good credit card to use for spending at the apple store
I am interested in the new macbook and I was wondering which credit card could maximize my points/cashback returns for purchasing a mac at the apple store.
While points are great, the extra year protection and support offered by cards from banks like chase and american express are also very important in this determination.

Does anyone have any advice, possibly a card that can give back about 5% in points and offers some form of product protection?
Real question is why the heck are you buying a mac at the Apple store? especially 2 weeks before BF?

Basically you are stealing, and dishonest. Clear enough? (Insert all the lame excuses you were coming up with here...). Yes, you are still dishonest and stealing.

Re: New Coin Deal With all the beating up on PFS....
I would like to say he is a class act. He is matching up to $300 as he said. He has always been fair and honest. I think he gets beaten up a lot over this kind of stuff. Bottom line as the buyer he by definition has less recourse than the sellers do. I feel like he tries his hardest to be fair in all circumstances. It is only fair and right to reciprocate. In my particular case I signed up with him on the first day, I wouldn't back out because I am honest. He could have said no to matching and he would have still gotten my coin, yet he kept his word @ $100 loss per coin.

Any chance to get the capital one savor card $95 fee waived?
Very easy with capital one. Just call and ask.

Threaten to cancel or just simply ask if they can please waive it?
Usually just asking does the trick.

Re: Credit Card Retention Bonuses
Wow that was really easy! Thank you so much. I simply just asked if they can waive it and he said yes. They're giving me a one time credit of $95 for it. Wonder if I'll be able to do it again next year.
Should be able to. I haven't been turned down yet... several different cards over several years.

Re: Amex Offers Discussion Thread
So Amex offers are based on purchase date and not posting date?
Made Lowes purchase 29th and temp charged posted. Settled charge posted 8/3 and I received 10% off today. IIRC this offer ended 7/31.
Always been charge date. You have until midnight PST to run the charge for Amex offers. Iíve done it several times with different offers. Exception to this rule seems to be on the recurring monthly credits were they will apply the credit for the month it posted in as opposed to the credit for the prior month.

Re: Chochom Einov B'Roishoi
The second wave is no longer a theory. Europe is seeing record cases, and the frum communities of NY and NJ are being touched in ways many didn't think possible even a month ago. This post isn't a post-mortem on how we got here, and it's not a mussar shmooze on what we could be doing better now to slow the spread. This post is about the future.

Regardless of our personal feelings, the reality is that governments will impose lockdowns in the coming months. We saw crazy numbers over the summer coming out of FL, TX, and CA, with weeks of over 10k new cases per day in each of those states. The reasons vary, from additional testing to younger patients, but the reactions are inevitably the same: closures and lockdowns. They may work, or they may not. They may be misused and abused. They may not be followed by the general public. But they are coming, because it is the only tool that we have to prevent hospitals from overloading during a surge in cases. Given what we saw over the summer, and given what we're seeing in Europe (and our communities here) right now, a surge is coming, and lockdowns right along with it.

We were all impacted in previously unimaginable ways during the early months of the pandemic. Aside from the illness itself, we were blindsided by the closures of shuls, schools, and businesses. Without getting into the messy details, suffice to say the damage to our families, our finances, and our infrastructure are still being felt today. Again, this post isn't intended to be a post-mortem.

Chochom einov b'roishoi: we need to look to our future pragmatically. We have the gift of having a pretty good idea of what's headed our way, and we have the benefit of having experienced it in the recent past to help us prepare for it. Whether it's preparing your family or business for possible upcoming shortages, or working with your schools and shuls to create resources that were sorely needed in March and April, the time to act is now. With preparation, we can help mitigate the challenges ahead, and maybe even create some opportunities for our communities and businesses to grow.

I don't have a lot of answers, or even a lot of ideas. I just hope this post sparks positive, proactive conversations that benefit us all.
One of the most intelligent posts I have seen around these parts!

Re: New Coin Deal My take here is very simple. This has all already been discussed at great length. If one wants a way out of his commitment, there is plenty of leeway in Halacha to find (a legitimate) way out. Especially in this scenario where BGs are offering a laughable commission compared to the actual value. With that being said there is an ethical mensch side to all this, plus the concept of honoring your word at all costs. Last year I took a significant hit on a few coins with PFS, on one of the deals. I sent it all to them without hesitation (reluctantly obviously because I wanted the higher price, but confident that I was doing the right thing). The reason is simple it has always been a 2 way street, they have never reneged on anything afaik. This years $3000 coin that no one wanted, they took the five I opted in for and paid commissions. They demonstrated that from their end as well a word is a word. That is the key, if they always honor their word on their end by definition our agreement is a much stronger commitment. This applies to any honest group/dealer not just PFS.

When a BG has already demonstrated that they donít give a damn about you. They will change the price on you if it drops, force you to return at their own discretion, nickel and dime you for every cent etc..... they have already clearly shown the value of their commitment to you. I believe there is no issue in treating them the same way and relying on the various ways to get out of it. Their agreements have zero value in their own eyes as per their actions. /end rant.

Re: Wool and cashmere mens coat 170
Itís nice, but only ďa touch of cashmereĒ. What is that? 5-10%?

Rated 2 out of 5
Merrill overcoat review.
The coat came all bunched up and wrinkled and I will need to have it pressed. Additionally, it did not say what the material blend percentages were, only that it was wool and cashmere blend. It turns out the coat only has a 5% cashmere blend and does not feel as soft as I had anticipated it would.
