Re: Israel Master Thread: Things To Do, Places To Eat Bad experience today with Bentzi Jeep tours. Booked months ago and he confirmed. Decided to reconfirm the night before via email just in case. He asked to start an hour earlier. So I rearranged my schedule, rented a car for the trip to Mitzpe Yericho, and guess what, he wasn't there. Called him on his cell and he claimed I had no reservation. I forwarded back to him his emails and he later replied that's it's my fault for not confirming by phone. Note, we never spoke by spoke prior.

What a waste of money on a rented car, gas and time.  Going tomorrow for the Kotel tunnel tours. Got to be better.

Manhattan Kosher Restaurants
No Talia's in the wiki? I know it's not the favorite place here, but with all the groupons, I figured there would be some reviews. (And that someone would add their opinion to the wiki.)

Anyway...
What to get?

It's not worth it.  I had a coupon on a Groupon and still feel cheated. Would like to see a class action lawsuit for their false labeling of filet mignon and prime rib.

I have seen numerous people politely request to be moved next to someone of the same gender and it has almost always worked. Would you want your daughter sitting next to Trump on a plane?

Rather Trump than the Puppa Rebbe's Gabbai.

Re: Pesach Program in Greece Cancelled Just Now!
I was there.

The program was complete chaos and disorganization. I was there last year as well and while the food was awful, there was plenty of it and we had a nice time since the property is gorgeous and we enjoyed the crowd. This year was just ridiculous. Not enough food, no tea room, nobody to talk to about the multiple issues.

Regarding the article above, the story was that the hotel gave the program a bill of about $250k at the end of the program for services they claimed they provided (on top of what the program had already paid them) which the program claimed was inaccurate. The program owner slipped out of the hotel at 4AM after chag.

We checked out early since our flight was early afternoon and all was fine. About 1pm the hotel realized that the owner of the program had skipped town and so they started detaining guests and refusing to allow them to leave the property without paying extravagant amounts, from $5k-$35k per family...

The property is about a mile or more off the main road. There is a long road (about 5-10 minutes) once you get off the highway to the property. There are 3 security checkpoints along that road and they do not let you off the property without a pass from the hotel showing you are paid up in full.

As far as I know everyone left, paid with their Amex cards and are planning to dispute these charges.

Omg

That line is awesome and effective on those that are frum - not those that are OTD.

In Brooklyn, making $200k a year with 10 kids, you're struggling...

Crazy but true.

People calm down. You can see from the indictment that this happened many years ago.  They may have made mistakes, looks llike they went off of programs, but the FBI is still here to catch. It's not like they recently had these programs.

Didn't they get off the programs after the investigation began?

+1 I say there should be a policy, anyone getting a tuition break has to give their tzedakah money to the school and not to the flashy tzedakahs orgs.

How about: if you get a break you still owe the rest to be paid later (at death if necessary).

It's like the additional tip line on the credit card receipt just in case the mandatory 18% wasn't enough.

Re: Interesting Articles...
I once heard from R' Menashe Reisman that before the Mabul there existed advanced technologies (he had a mekor), and I think he explicitely mentioned cell phones. So not soooo far-fetched...

Did he happen to mention if they had Verizon wireless service?

Re: any accountants out there that i can ask a question?
Do work bonuses need to be on the books legally? Is there anything wrong with requesting that my employer give me bonuses in another form? I like to be straight but not stupid.

Will you be paying tax on the bonus? I assume you will if you are indeed straight. Remember your parnasa was already set on RH.

Re: Screwed by a CPA-Any advice? Sounds like an unprofessional accountant. I would fire them and move on.  Missing deadlines is a huge deal. Not as bad as missing a criminal trial deadline, but being a professional carries with it a certain level of expected guidance. They clearly missed that mark.

Re: New Coin Deal
So I chased down 3 different ups trucks today looking for my package( im not staying holed up in my house all day waiting for him ) and I finally got my coin!
He was very nice-told me he rescheduled my box for Wednesday after 3 failed attempts (which usually  is 6$ fee)
Also gave me his cell number for future delivery issues  ;) ;D

You may want to tip him come year end. Sounds like a keeper.

Re: Best Place to Buy Wine on Internet
So what's his ultimate game plan?

Why does he send out emails like this:
"We have brought on 8 delivery people to work with us to get your delivery to you right away!

We will be introducing a new delivery schedule with a new company in the next couple weeks, this schedule will allow us to get your order to you much faster and you will have an exact date, all orders will be delivered within 7 days of order, sometimes it will be much faster with this new system and new company!"

As recent as 1/20 when there's still no one home and no one to talk to?

He needs money to fund a diff business.

Re: Re: PSA: Don't swipe recklessly for others
It's not that they don't care, they literally don't know.

I remember during the prior govt shutdown (not the most recent one) one of the chasiddish guys that works in the tax dept by us needed to call the irs and he kept calling and calling until someone finally said "hello, the irs is closed because of the shutdown" the poor guy looked so confused. To this day I'm not sure he knows what a shutdown is or means but he does now know that you can't call the irs when there is a shutdown.

Reminds me of the guy who allegedly tried to avoid tax at the DMV by paying in cash.

Re: PSA: Don't swipe recklessly for others
He had Rav Dovid Cohen who agreed with him that many of the tznius guidelines such as long skirts , type of material etc. are opinions of poskim rather than clear halachos with a mekor, but pushed back when Lichtenstein suggested that based on a teshuva of Rav Moshe allowing a tefach of hair to be uncovered etc. there is no obligation to follow guidelines that are machmir , pointing out to Lichtenstein that in places where this is the accepted mode of dress, to dress otherwise becomes assur....

Somehow Rav Falk never made it onto his show....

Good.

Re: PSA: Don't swipe recklessly for others
May be good, but it’s indicative of the fact that he will come in with an opinion and will take one side of an issue and tilt the show toward it....

Sounds like every person with a radio show or equivalent.

Re: AN URGENT APPEAL TO THE NY YESHIVA COMMUNITY
LSATs, Regents... any standardized tests.

But very good. Make something mandatory. Don't shove a whole pie down our throats. Cleary 3 hours is enough. Dont make us do more. Maybe make the mandatory 2 hours and see how it goes. Chances are if they actually teach it those kids will be in at least the 80th percentile.

We all know that the government really has no  interest in this altogether but were forced to act when confronted with the facts that some boy’s schools do not teach any secular studies. Our focus should be on those schools that are attracting this unwanted attention rather than fighting on their behalf.

Re: Pesach Programs and False Advertising
Most programs have highly negotiable rates.
Rates may be less negotiable if you're locked in with funds...

Furthermore, they will certainly say that they had to raise prices significantly to recoup their unprecedented losses. Remember, we are all in this together - except when the owner has a successful year.
