Re: Overstayed Israeli 90 day tourist visa
Only issue I had was they kept me in that little office in the back left corner for about 15 min for intimidation then let me go. They said something about being sent back on te next flight but I knew it was BS
i learnt in israel for six years, the first four years they kept on taking me to the back office & threatening me.
After four years I came in on Elal from Poland & they snapped & told me I'm being sent back, took my bags & put me in a holding room with instructions to put me on the next flight back. The workers couldn't believe that they were sending back a Jew for visa issues,

Anyway long story short it took a call to a Knesset member to get them to release me after which I had to make a visa

Re: Russia & Ukraine Master Thread
thank you. I am going myself. Perhaps you can reserve a spot and give it to me? It seems that only those that have been going for years are eligible for private rooms. They are at a premium and money doesn't talk here (ironically).
Yup your not getting a private room, forget about it (even the private rooms have a minimum on two beds)

I would sleep in a room of 4 beds with friends,

The first two years we rented a house from a bubushke with no electricity and an outhouse, now that was fun!

Re: The School Crisis
My husband and I both work. We consider ourselves chassidish but we're not affiliated with any particular sect. We speak English and Yiddish in our home. We don't have movies or a TV, we both have smartphones + wifi. We're pretty middle class.

I'm not sure what typical means nowadays. I don't buy into the whole double life many MANY people have today where they are chassidish on the outside and barely shomer Shabbos on the inside. With my husband and I- what you see is what you get.

BYBP expected my 4 yr old to be able to write her own name, draw shapes, identify all aleph bet and alphabet.
Gan Yisroel said no uncle Moishy/yeshivah boys choir/smartphones w/o filter
Bais Yaakov of B said no chalav stam (not that it matters. They didn't want us anyway. We don't fit their type)
Munkatch had no reason with their rejection
Satmar said no radio (yes. Apparently were in the 50's)
Both bobavs said no space
Sora schner, Bais shufra Miriam, BYA, prospect park, yeshiva of B, yeshiva of FB, and a few others never responded to my application despite many calls
BY d'rav Meir called us for an interview but I heard from a few people that they (like vien) are way too posh and would never take us. So we didn't even bother running after them
BY18 has a 3 year waiting list and only accepts siblings

Need I go on?
Sorry for speaking bluntly but either wise up & play the game like everyone else  does or move out of BP

Re: wide open availability on Brussels J from NYC to BRU I was able to test book a OW JFK-BRU-TLV,

as others have mentioned dealing with the EY call center is like the wild west, each agent have their own set of rules & I actually found that the indian agent in AUH was more competent then the ones in manchester.

The maddening part is that theres no way of knowing what availability EY has access to. It doesn't match ExpertFlyer, AC or UA

I actually found that even SQ wasn't matching UA availability which leads me to suspect the problem lies with SN

Re: Best way to avoid yq on Emirates with Jal miles Dear Efflpetzel.

We have reviewed your letter concerning redemption of Starwood points through JAL Mileage Bank to book award travel on Emirates.  Upon becoming aware last November that Emirates is applying a fuel surcharge to award travel, JAL promptly updated the Emirates fee information on its website and otherwise began advising our JAL Mileage Bank members of the surcharge.

We understand that you transferred Starwood points and/or made a booking through JAL on Emirates prior to the applicability of the fuel surcharge.  While JALs website and our agents advise that the fees applicable to award travel are subject to change, as a courtesy to you, our valued Mileage Bank member, JAL agrees to refund the fuel surcharges that were collected on your ticket ending 427.

The amount of the fuel surcharge was USD812.00. If you are in agreement, please kindly reply back with your acknowledgment and we will refund these charges back to the original form of payment. We look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you for being a JAL Mileage Bank member.

Best regards,

Japan Airlines The Americas
Customer Support  Desk

This was for a reservation where the points were transferred to JAL before they imposed the YQ but the ticket was booked and flown after the yq was imposed.

I guess the DoT still scares the foreign airlines

I'm very surprised!

Re: Hidden City Ticketing
Just trying to Alert the Olam, UA night flight in TLV, almost all my clients get hassled, its amazing how the agents repeat the same lies, your bag is coming out in Boston, your bag is coming out in Washington etc

That being said one of my pax did pay 3x $300 penalty but was able to successfully fight united for a refund after.
You have to go with the right approach.

I flew that flight this past week & instead of waiting for them to confront me. Straight up I said I'm flying to ORD & have a tight connection in EWR, will I make it.

Besides for assuring me that the flight is on time No further questions were asked of me.

Re: United late fee
I called today and they said I can only change if I pay the fee. Called again and they said its written in the notes of the ticket that the customer is aware of fee to change the flight and nit to change it without the fee... any tips?
If it's within 24hrs of booking cancel the ticket & rebook to get rid of the notes,  & then call in to switch to your dates

Re: Which Flight Should I Take?
Option 1:
UA EZE-EWR 9:00p-5:50a B764 J

Option 2:
UA EZE-IAH 10:20p-5:45a B772 J
2:30 connection
UA IAH-LGA 8:15a-12:34p A320 F

Option 3:
UA EZE-IAH 10:20p-5:45a B772 J
1:40 connection
UA IAH-EWR 7:25a-11:44a B772 J ("F")

Option 1 pros: Direct flight. Arrives earliest, by far. Direct aisle access and bulkhead available.
Option 1 cons: B764 seat is quite lousy, especially for someone of my height. Not sure I'll be able to sleep at all.

Option 2 pros: B772 has a way better and roomier seat. Slightly later departure allows me to head to a restaurant for dinner in EZE.
Option 2 cons: Connecting flight - arrival in IAH is the same time as Option 1 arrives in EWR. Will have a seatmate, so with I'll climb or will be climbed over. Need to do the customs and rechecking dance in IAH. 3 hours in an A320 is just not that enticing. Arrives LGA, which is less convenient for me than EWR. I arrive home around 2:30 before Shabbos, which is risky (especially in the winter).

Option 3 pros: Arrive earlier, around 3:30 to Shabbos. B777 > A320.
Option 3 cons: IAH connection is quite tight for customs and rechecking. Still not a ton of time before Shabbos.

I think it boils down to this: is a way better bed worth the hassle and late Friday arrival? I must say I'm leaning towards Option 1.
Option 1 is a no brainer, the other options are narishkeit.

& why take chances with a friday

Re: Prepping for COVID-19
Just curious what you think my agenda is, as a big Trump fan, and huge Trump critic regarding COVID.
He dropped the ball big time on the coronavirus because he let his ego get in the way of reality.

It might end up costing him his presidency

F- after last night's speech. Was an F before.
Messed up the details of the ban, announced fake news on coronavirus insurance coverage, made up a goods trade ban. And sounded sick.

I've no problem giving him credit where its deserved but his handling of this situation has been moronic & reckless

Re: Is your Shul Secretly Open Right Now?
False. There is no known immunity, just a theory based on other diseases. The rate of reinfection has already rendered this theory irrelevant.
Total Fake News.

Dr Fauci himself said that like other coronavirus diseases it's highly highly unlikely to get reinfected.

The anecdotal evidence about people getting reinfected is most likely people who never cleared it from their system (that's another unanswered question, how long it can stay in a person)

& the Herd Immunity is also a real thing that countries have adopted & then abandoned when they realized the cost to human life

I don't think any. I have a relative that just flew down to see this place. He says it's all still overgrown besides a sample house or two.  They show you a nearby development and tell you that's what it will look like. Thats it.  He was extremely disappointed
