Re: Went through the process of house hunting/buying I got a bargain on a house on the outskirts of Boro Park in 1991.  $285K.  Now it's worth $1.2 mil at least.  (My mortgage I bought down to 5.5%. Still higher than today, but a real bargain back then.)

Re: Your scarriest or scary moment
Happened 3 years ago. In short me and my wife went rafting in an isolated lake without life vests (I'm a lifeguard and wsi) . The water was gushing very very fast. Suddenly we hit a branch that was floating there and our rafting tube/boat busted and we were thrown deep under the water. We didnt know that the branch on top was a huge tree under the water. After getting some deep scratches and cuts i quickly freed myself. When i swam back up i saw my wife was not there!!!!
In the end i pulled her up and after being hospitalized for a week she was okay
WOW!  Waay scary!!
B"H you're both OK.

I think the idea is that his wife found apparently the trick he has been using not to have to unpack.
Along the same line is having a shiur precisely when the kids need to be put to sleep.
Also along the same line, Freddie, my mother always found the Rebbe's birthday (yud alef nissan)(and therefore his farbrengin ) suspiciously timed.

Re: Suggestions on getting measured for suit? Go into a department store and try on different sizes and styles.
See what size you are in classic cut, slim fit, etc.  And different manufacturers fit differently, too.
When the special has free return shipping, I often buy 2 sizes of some things that I like, so we can try them on.  Then I return the rejects.

Re: Help, Google just disabled my email accounts What can we do to appeal to Google?
What if it is just a few people over all, so it doesn't make the news and pressure Google that way. What can we put in the email to them, or who can we talk to, to make them see reason?

no. That's the best use of a special like this.

For someone who is not storing that much video and/or photos on their pc this is great for performance. Lightning fast and has more than enough storage for simple docs, excel etc.
What exactly did I just buy 3 of?
Does it plug into the inside of my computer and add memory and make it work faster?

Re: delay in receiving emails

All three of these are better options that to keep complaining about how everyone else gets emails before you. Everyone gets them at the same time. At the end of the day Dan just send out a list of all posts made that day. The world isn't out to get you and nobody is better off than you are.
He wasn't complaining.

Is there any way to receive these emails earlier in the day like the other users are?
He was asking how we get the info sooner. No need to jump down his throat.

Re: Random questions.
I purchased glasses on sale last night. The lenses were not on sale and were quite expensive. Today I called back the store and told them I had decided against some of the extra lens options I had selected yesterday, such as extreme thinning and anti-glare coating, as I wanted to hold down the total cost. They told me that sale items are non returnable, despite the fact that the lenses were not on sale the frames were and that's considered a sale package. Fyi they definitely did not start any work on the lenses yet. Are they right or wrong?
I think they're wrong, but can get away with it.  Perhaps go down there, not on the phone. Be polite. Be firm, but persistent. Discreetly throw in 'credit card dispute'. Maybe even concede that they don't have to, but it's good for customer service, since you heard such good things about them- that's why you came to them in the first place.

Re: Misc Credit Card Questions
Your question is: On what credit card can I earn the most points for my regular purchases, and have those points wait for me until I want to use them?
There are credit cards that earn you points toward specific airlines, OR you can earn that credit card's own points that can be moved to your choice of airline/hotel from the credit card partners.  These are obviously more versatile.
Chase points- UR- Ultimate Rewards
AMEX points - MR- Member Rewards

Or  You can earn 'cash back' in the form of  a cash credit on your statement.

Start your information quest by reading some of the various threads listed here:
particularly: credit card comparison chart:

Getting a big 'signup' bonus to open a card goes a long way to boosting your point accumulation.
Right now there's a card or 2 with big sign up bonuses.

Re: What's something people do for or on pesach that a Rav told you u don't have to?
Humans used to not have so many things (to clean).
Now we own so much stuff that it takes forever if you want to clean everything spotless.
That's where the mistake is.  Spotless is not the goal - removal of chomoetz is.
I had my first baby Purim time, so I told my husband we'd just sleep by my parents (walking distance) for Pesach, since I couldn't clean.  He taught me what REAL Peasch cleaning is - except for preparing the kitchen for cooking.
He took all the (folded) clothing out of the armoir, checked between the folds and put it all back. (folded badly and in the wrong places) He rearranged everything I had on any surface. He vacuumed the couch and all the floors. He washed the kitchen floor, counters and sink.  He taped some newspaper on the counters, some foil in the sink, and declared us Pesachdig.
(In later years he learned to like my mother. :D )

Absolutely. They should charge social security based on how many kids you have. The more workers you leave over to pay for your retirement the less you should pay.

Re: Master Thread of Pet Peeves
What really bugs me the most is when I call and ask when I should come in and they say "come now" or "come in 15 minutes" and I get there and I still need to wait 20 minutes to be put in a room and then another half hour until the doctor comes around.
I once made the 'last' appointment of the day by a doctor, because I had experience waiting in his office.  I called near my appointment time and asked how they're 'running', when should I come.  She said 'now'.  I got there and waited my usual over an hour and a half.  My last time in his office.

Re: Looking for a Nice and Cheap Getaway New Hampshire - hiking; skilifts up to see sights; Has shul and kosher food in Bethlehem.  Drive there, but takes about 8 hours.

San Francisco - enough to do for a week- kosher food, minyan?  Reasonably priced flights. Can probably get a reasonable hotel.

Mystic, CN-2 days; Newport, RI -1 day; Boston, MA -2 days. These are the minimum time in each place.  There's more things available. Drive - maybe too much. Hotels ca be found for reasonable prices.  Food and minyan- sometimes.  Things to do: historical, old buildings, water sports. You go at your own pace and interest.

Maine- Bangor has Acadia National Park- beautiful hiking and nature. Can drive or fly and rent/drive.  Chabad of Bangor and Portland have Shabbos packages. Otherwise no food or minyan.

Florida flights are cheap in summer, but it's very hot and humid then.

Italy- information, impressions – ckmk47’s Trip Report
We were ready for a Big Trip.  We picked vacation days, bounced around some ideas, and chose Italy. It has history, beauty and some Jewish infrastructure. The planning then practically took over my life.  Getting some basic information to set up the framework- how many days, in which cites- then the fine planning of booking places to stay, setting up tours and train rides, finding out where and what time is davening and food. The details took weeks of on-line research and even phone calls to Italy. (+6 hours to NY time, so need to call in my morning for their afternoon.) We used google maps to see walking distances and to guess at taxi costs.  We used the shul as a center on the map to choose where to stay.

I have in mind to write this in sections by topic, rather than as a straight story.  We’ll see if that works.   I’ll start by giving our basic itinerary.
We were able to get tickets to fly into Rome and out of Venice, so that is what we did.
Friday morning - land in Rome- get to our Airbnb near ghetto.
                Daven.  Brunch at Yotvata.
Pm - Jewish Ghetto tour – Yael of Jewish Roma (Michaela’s group)
Get our Shabbos food package from Little Tripoli
Shabbos - walk around.  Motzoei Shabbos –gelato.  Prepare for being out all day Sunday.
Sunday- Pompeii, all day.  Supper at Ba’Ghetto Milky.
Monday- Colosseum Tour – Guida (?) of Rome for Jews (David’s group)
                -Lunch at Ba’Ghetto Milky.
-Some of us made a quick trip back to the apt to shower and change.
               -Capitoline Museum
               -Supper at Little Tripoli
Tuesday-Vatican Tour – David Walden of Rome for Jews
                -bagged lunch. Walk to>
                - Castel Sant'Angelo
                -Supper at Ba’Ghetto Milky.
Wednesday- Leave Rome -Rent a car- drive into Tuscany region
                  -Siena. Bagged lunch
                  -winery tour
-drive to Florence, return rental car, get to Airbnb
-Supper from R Wolvovsky of Chabad.
Thursday- Jewish Florence Tour- Giovanna of
-Lunch – extra meals ordered from R Wolvovsky.
-train to Venice. Get to our hotel.   Supper- takeout from GamGam.
Friday-Rick Steves’ Grand Canal Tour
            - Burano, Murano
            -pizza from Gam Gam Goodies.
Shabbos – food at the Gallery. Walk all over town.  Motzoe Shabbos- pizza.  Pack.
Sunday-airport to home.

Re: Passport expedite
How soon does one need to get updated passport after legal name change? Can you point me to official docs?
legally- I don't know
practically- you can keep using the old passport until it expires.  It even serves as ID for you on your former name.
After my daughter changed to her married name, she eventually needed to renew her driver's license, so she changed the name on it.  But her passport wasn't expiring yet.  So her newly acquired Global entry is on her single name (and she carries her GE ID when traveling in the USA rather than her passport)

August 25, 2017, 12:46:42 AM
Re: Passport expedite

Can you share your experience getting Global Entry updated?
She hasn't changed the name on her passport yet, so she hasn't updated her GE.
I think up thread people said they went without an appointment and it was quick.
If that's true, I would do it when I was already at the airport coming home from a flight.

Oct. 29-30:
10 ream case of paper @ $9.99 after rebate. No coupon necessary. Limit 4 per household.!/store/2278331/categories

Sunday and Monday only. 10/29 and 10/30
In store only.
NO COUPON NECESSARY.  So you can buy 4 cases in one transaction, pay $224 plus tax (almost $20 in NYC)   With Ink get 1120 pts. and the rebate will be one $184 Visa rebate card.
Some have complained about hassles with the rebate.  That is much less likely with an in-store purchase.

Landing in EWR from TLV will require you and the whole family to get your luggage and go through customs.  At that point a traveler can go to another gate for a connecting flight to travel further.  Or not.

Forgot to cancel card after year...AF charged 10/1, so I missed the 30-day window. If I downgrade does it get pro-rated, or did I just mess up completely, get the $300 travel credit for 2018 and take the $150 hit?

Any other options?
To clarify, "billing" means statement closing date that shows the fee (not when the fee posts on the 1st of the month).
So, the way I understand it, you have 30 days from the close of the statement in which the AF is billed.
Call to cancel today and ask if you are still eligible for a full refund of the AF. You may be.

Re: United hack for economy plus? I gleaned several things:
1) OP paid for the EP seat on the original booking, but that was refunded when he rebooked the date.
2) It may indeed be just a nice/clueless agent and not a reproducible hack.
3) OP needs to use punctuation marks to aid his readership in understanding him. It would be even more helpful if he would add all the relevant facts, even if the post seems to be getting too long.

Re: Misc Credit Card Questions
I have a Bankof Cash Rewards open in 2014 (was 1 of my first card) I rarely used it, the anuall fee on it is $39, I just realize that they offer the card with no fee, I called and was told by 2 agents that they can't remove the fee ..

what are my best option ?
For $39 it may be worth keeping it for now.
Is this one of your older cards? If yes, does it lengthen your 'age of accounts' significantly? then keep it open.
Does this have a large credit line? If yes, do you have another Bankof card that you can move the credit line to if you close this one?  If not, keep it open.

If it doesn't age your history or if losing the credit line is not a big hit, just close it and don't look back.

Re: Prison
Why do we sell people into slavery when they steal and cannot pay back? Someone steals someone lifes savings and then refuses to pay up should be punished. Period. Whether they deserve Rikers or just to be put away for a couple of years is not my point. I would not want them tortured in Rikers but being put away is a deterrent for future misconduct. We are talking about someone who stole MILLIONS (not from me alone) and completely got away with it.
He took the money to AC/Vegas and blew it all. He should need to pay back and go to prison. Living a happy life now and refusing to pay back is wrong IMO.
I think if the perpetrator showed remorse, Proisrael would be less harsh.  But the guy is living an apparently happy life with no complications, so Proisrael is understandably angry.
I would suggest though, Proisrael, that you move forward as if you lost the money in a natural disaster.  Anger only holds you back from your own happiness. Your loss was an act of G-d even if it was disguised as an act of man.
