Re: RIP/BDE Master Thread - COVID-19 related
Not that it mitigates the pain and tragedy at all, but I don't believe this was Corona related.
Is this confirmed Covid-19 related?

Dr fauci was asked how to fill out death certificates for untested deaths but seem to have a relationship to cover 19. His answer was to put it as coved-19 death.

He said we see other countries with low coved-19 reported deaths but a sudden rise in other causes of death. It's can't be true.

Same here ppl dropping to death all of the sudden has an underlying reason

I know over 50 that are davening with a minyan x 3 daily.

We are discussing a Rov
That's a different story

Re: SBA PPP and EIDL Small Business Loans (some money is forgivable)
Kabbage.com just sent out the following:

DW got the same email.

I also just got an email from my bank (small bank located in MO) that they are now again accepting applications. Any point in applying there too? Multiple banks? Through AMEX?

Last round there seems there was loading problems with the SBA
So having an approved application by a bank may not mean it will be able to load it to the SBA in time

Chase advised its clients to try other banks too

Typically Tzedaka's have Rabbinic leadership or a group of named askanim. Who is Areivim's?

This (I have been to a few Areivim meeting with these Rabbonim)

Harav Elya Brudny, Rosh Yeshivas Mir Flatbush;
Harav Yitzchok Isaac Eichenstein, Galanter Rav;
Harav Doniel Geldzahler, Rosh Yeshivas Ohr Yisrael;
Harav Binyomin Zev Landau, Tosher Dayan of Boro Park;
Harav Henoch Shachar, Rav of Klal Ohr Tuvia in Lakewood

I am just for someone with first hand experience of receiving $$$$ from them. Ive been trying to find am almana that was able to confirm to me personally, with no success.
I'm not sure how you looked but personally know 3 families that got.

It's also not that hard to find an almonh that got. On each collection there's a rav listed as that ruv.

Re: Areivim USA - Coronavirus
What percentage of Arevims recipients dont have/need crowdfunding campaigns? My guess is the $100k/orphan is a pittance and theyre going to need a lot more. You cant market Arevim as mitigating the crowdfunding if the payouts arent enough to mitigate it.

That's why life insurance with Areivim is the way to go. So at your high point where you have many children unmarried and a million dollar policy won't cover funds will be raised in a dignified manner

Re: Areivim USA - Coronavirus One thing I find also very interesting

People tend to buy life insurance only for father not mother.
They underestimate the burden of losing a mother, even if she's not bringing in a income, on a family

Why is the sum 22,500,000 and not 28,800,000 for 288 orphans?

I think when they started and did not have a full pool that only gave $7 x members until they reached 14k members

the vulnerable who dont have antibodies are still mostly locked up

Many older ppl turned up in shul this week. I suppose they have antibodies.

It's a real rachmonuos on the older ppl that don't have antibodies, as 10 weeks is getting to them  :'( :'(

The two could not be further apart as far as studies go. Youre comparing BP where most people (according to you) have antibodies and Yerushalayim where presumably most people dont.. the one thing they have in common is (presumably) not too many infectious people circulating

Agree. Just pointing out 2 things to follow

Re: Unemployment Help
Tax Credits: Covered employers qualify for dollar-for-dollar reimbursement through tax credits for all qualifying wages paid under the FFCRA.
Qualifying wages are those paid to an employee who takes leave under the Act for a qualifying reason, up to the appropriate per diem and aggregate payment caps.
Applicable tax credits also extend to amounts paid or incurred to maintain health insurance coverage. For more information, please see the Department of the Treasurys website.

Is this done on the quarterly 940?

On UI you'll get your Weekly Benefit Rate plus $600 for all claims 3/28-7/31.

Can I choose to get paid from the employer or go on UI?

Small businesses with fewer than 50 employees may qualify for exemption from the requirement to provide leave due to school closings or child care unavailability if the leave requirements would jeopardize the viability of the business as a going concern.
Is this a self-assessment?

P.S. It beyond me what @cgr  is are doing for the community

Re: yeshivas that are open
You can only be mechalel shabbos but not miss tefila bitzibur?

You can be mechalel shabbos but not miss tfillin?

Question is is there Avia in doing mitzvos

Reminds me of a psak from Dovid Stav permitting shaking a woman's hand. As embarrassing her is a deorisa and shaking her hand is only a derabonon.

Re: yeshivas that are open Back on track

We all believe there is Avia by not treating a nonjew on Shabbat
We all believe there is no Avia for doing mitzvos in public

If there is imminent danger we should close shuls

We disagree if there is no imminent danger but
against the law
or not against the law but maybe perceived by a nonjew as endangering the public if we have avia

Re: Re: So How Was Your Shul This Week?
Let Ohio know they should revise their data to zero.

I think the only metric that indicates if it's going up or down is hospitalizations

Deaths are most likely from people that got sick long ago

Testing positive still does not mean it's a new case. Lots of people never tested until recently.

Re: So How Was Your Shul This Week? I love this thread (and others similar) They show how we are so close but so far apart.

One community in the tri-state area still has a complete ban, orders have yard minyanim, others are fully opened without any restrictions.

P.S. just another example how we can be so close but so far
A litvish bucher and father sat down next to me in Shul learning.
The young boy points out to his father that he found a kidushin gamara next to a chasidush guy.
He points out to his father how weird this was! Kedushin is a yeshivash mesechta, and chasidim don't learn that they learn weird mesechtus

Re: Calculating The Actual Fatality Rate
It's useless, most of the new hospitalizations are people being hospitalized for unrelated reasons (like going into labor) who happen to test positive.

If this is true, we don't really have accurate numbers

Re: Violent protests erupt across the country
How about sending in the military without the states asking for them?

Per Wikipedia

In 2006, Congress passed the 2007 National Defense Authorization Act, which gave the president the authority to mobilize National Guard units within the U.S. without the consent of state governors.[5][6]

Re: Unemployment Help In NY

If I file for UI for 4 weeks, then go back to work.
Will I need to work 26 weeks before being eligible for PFL (Paid Family Leave)? (I have been working at this employer a few years)

Re: Unemployment Help
@mgarfin looks like there are a few insurance carriers that offer PFL in NY, so you'd need to have a look at your companies policy to determine if a rehire does or doesn't reset the clock.

I found this from Gaurdian where it looks like they don't require another 26 weeks of employment for eligibility.
http://htcorp.net/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/FAQs.pdf

Here it looks like up to 28 days doesn't require a 26-week wait
https://www.rfsuny.org/media/RFSUNY/Forms/nys_pfl_faq.pdf

I emailed Shelter Point to see what they say.

Its been a week since you accepted the loan amount, verified your identity and the SBA has your banking info (that they already deposited the advance into)? Maybe try calling them (using the number on the portal) and find out what the status of your loan is.

Just got my loan docs.
It's for the max amount. No info was requested.
It's now nine days since accepting portal invite and certifying request

To his big credit, no.
I can tell you nobody here knows exactly what's the story here with Tischler. Definitely not the way things ought to be done, give it a few days and the condemnations will begin.

Re: New Chassidish Community Being Planned in Tampa No way in the world can you compare Staten island to Tampa

Staten island is a success, but

It relies on education from BP
It's  relies on grocery / shopping from BP
It's within short driving distance to family
Local government programs and politics are extremely known

Tampa has none of that

Re: New Chassidish Community Being Planned in Tampa On the discussion for the need of a Chasidus or a Ruv

A Chasidus can bring together people a different stages in there observance (for the lack of a better word)
In a Satmer cheder You have an extreme broad mixture of people.
That may not be obvious on the outside.

One of the biggest obstacles a new community faces is education. If it's attracts a very liberal crowd and the school is formed around that. Maybe come very hard to bring in frumer families. And the same around if it's is established around kollel guy's, working liberal guys may not want to move in.

A Chasidus for a dominant strong ruv can set a balance and allow people from all walks of life feel comfortable joining.
